The 3-5 Stack Defense is a great defense because it can easily adjust to any offense. The 3-5 has a variety of different slants and blitzes which will help if you are undersized on the defensive line.

Great stuff brother...its a great defense no question especially in youth even high School because like you're saying you can stop the run or drop your outside linebackers in the coverage!!

I love your stuff Man, thanks for putting it out there. Tail in how you would block this defense…I’m curious. And if the block scheme is handling you, what do you switch to (say wishbone form).

When it comes to a playback, it's easy to draw up success on a whiteboard, its difficult to evaluate your talent and run an offense and defense on what you have. The strength of the 3-5-3 defense is that the 3 tackles up front could be played by your offensive line, they are supposed to take up space and not be superman. The weakness of this defense is that all three of your linebackers better be able to run and tackle without hesitation, your buck safeties and your free safety have to be the most athletic players, the buck linebackers have to have the best size and speed combination on your team, plus they have to be able to recognize formations AND respond. So if you have two kids who are extremely large and rangy and one speedy kid to play free safety, you have a good defense

I’ve met guys that already have a base defense they want to run before even meeting, let alone seeing the skill set of their players. Huge mistake every time. Build your defense around your talent. Wise words J.D

On your drawing board when you show her, the double twins, you had the left and right safety playing man coverage, correct? In a zone coverage the left and right safety would have deep thirds and we would send out the two outside linebackers on the two slot receivers??

What if you line the DT up in the B gap and have them slant A gap or C gap post snap. I think that could be effective too. The guard and tackle will think they have a double team block until the DT makes his first step lateral to the right or left then rip through.

definitely could.

I’d have to argue in a 2 by 2 offense you aren’t strong vs. the pass. You can only play man or cover 3. It works at a little league level but in high school and up if they have a good qb it’s easy pickings. How do you guard 4 verts

I'm a high school defensive line coach...we run the 3-3. The key word you used is "IF" they have a good qb...the other part of that is they also have to have good receivers. We've survived playing cover 3 vs 2x2 because the reality is our pass rush was solid, qbs didn't have the luxury of simply sitting in the pocket, holding the ball, looking directly downfield while 4 wide receivers run a route with no obstruction. We also have our defense backs line up the same each play...only to bailout when they see the ball snap (zone cv)...and jam to inside (man cv). In those cases we went against a good pass team, we played a sort of inverted cover 4...both CBs bail deepest, single high safety bails twds strong side, will linebacker bails weakside (like a cover 2 drop but deeper)...defensive end on will lb side rushes b-gap, nickel safety rushes from c- gap. Like the offense, it's all about mixing it up so offenses don't automatically know how youre going to cover them in specific sets

@Brandon Knight You could also play quarters coverage by dropping 8 or sending one of the linebackers as the 4th rusher. It’s more versatile than you think.

What does the “R” and “L” mean? How can the 3-3 stack defend against RPO?

R (Rip Linebacker)- right stack linebacker. L (Leo Linebacker)- left stack linebacker.

@@YouthFootballOnline well do you have them read either one is what I'm asking? Like if they aren't blitzing do you have them read the backs or do you have them read the guards? Or neither? Thank you for the response by the way

Only thing is that in our league you can’t line up over the center which will offset my nose and leave one side open for them to expose us.

Trips left or right, block OLB and CB with blocks, one back left to pass to, 10-15 yards every time. Defense is busted. Things get even more interesting when you start having speed options ran to one side or the other. There’s just no dominant defense in football. Always a chess game when all things are equal.
@lifeizrealtv

Na not really. You can go a cover 2 on this scheme and your blocking now becomes irrelevent.

What do you run offensively?
@aoccham7214
@aoccham7214 4 года назад
You sure about that??? I'm a high school defensive line coach. We run a 4-2-5 and a 3-3 stack....the number of tackle for loses and qb pressures we get from the 3-3 vs 4-2-5 are night and day. This guy is correct about how playing gaps in a 4 man front put your D-tackles at a disadvantage. So, we decided to line them head up over the guards....problem solved. The o linemen seem to play on their heels vs head up alignments and stacked looks. Hell, we rode the 3-3 to being conference champs..the school hadn't seen one since the 90s. It helped to have a damn good qb and running backs on the other side of the ball, but our defense gave up the fewest points in the conference. And the install of this defense and it's blitzes are so easy it's crazy.....having very good athletes (which we had) just makes it that more effective and faster
@YouthFootballOnline
@YouthFootballOnline 4 года назад
@@aoccham7214 Yes, the 3-3 is great, allows you to easily adjust to pretty much any offensive formation. Stacking the defensive linemen is great because you utilize a bunch of different slants and stunt combos. As you said, it keeps the O-linemen on their heels. Congrats, on a great season!
@philmcbride6572
@philmcbride6572 3 года назад
Couldn’t disagree more. This is a pretty solid defense. The trick is to coach up the D-Line on defeating the double team that would be inevitable at the point of attack and teach the skinny kids to read the double teams to ID the point of attack. The slants and stunts and movement would sow chaos and indecision in O-Line.

Paul Orr I like drawing the D on the top. Just my preference. Its common practice to draw D on the bottom, but in actually it doesn’t matter.
