Focusing on short stack strategy. Because when I play in my local small buy-in tournament, it's easy to reach the final table. But normally everyone is around 15bb on the final table, so every hand is critical, you either move to the top 3 chip stack or you just busted and only min-cash.

I get a lot of info watching your vids. Question . What $ buy in/ tourney do these tips work best in? 20$ 50? 100? 1000? Etc. imo the cheaper games attract far more aggressive players that don’t play the way you suggest they might at the various stages of the game.

Hi Jonathan. In live cash games, when I do standard 3x preflop raise with above average hand like Ace Queen off suite or Ace Jack suited, I get 3 bet by over 7-8x size. Mostly they also have above average hands like pocket jacks or pocket queens. In such case, should I just fold my hand or should I call their oversize 3 bets and sit with deep stack like 500 BBs?
@br4insful

consider limp early OOP first (and re-raise some portion of the time) and see the flop at very cheap price if you are playing with really strong players

Open 5x and just fold to 3 bets when out of position because at low stakes cash you can find so many better spots to play big pots. Never do what the other clown told you to do.

Great video and true and any final table the player that plays aggressive and takes it over is the one that will win if you can't do this at any final table you won't win basicly the last table final is like a sit and go tournaments

Great video, thank you. Although I did watch a video where you (pretty sure it was you) where you explained how to "value bounties", the PKO's which I enjoy playing, 150bb starting stacks, as we get deeper into the tourney, especially when my bounty is big, it's REALLY tough with a middling stack and, in all honesty, even with a stack which covers the table. Bet sizing is also, I think, part of the problem?

I love this video and it has some great content. However, using the WSOP Main event to talk about ROE is a bit misleading. It is famously 'top-loaded' to ensure everyone at the final table makes at least a million dollars.

Three betting preflop is my favorite my sizing is questionable … definitely good to isolate … Iv been studying a little on raw equity and the odds of hitting the board with certain hands .. so if I’m gonna hit the flop 60 percent of the time I like the idea to 3 bet … but if I have a gapped connector and I’m gonna hit the flop 11 percent of the time less I’d just fold … .. the starting hands are pretty important to my game as a beginner …
@DerekMusic13
@DerekMusic13 2 года назад
No hands really hit the flop 60% of the time or it would be an all in every time you got it. Good to 3 bet more though! Many don't do it enough.

I play in $75.00 and $85.00 buy in holdem tournaments at my local casino with no antes. In this situation, is it better to play tighter or can you still play aggressively by 3 betting more and playing a wider range of hands in position?

In the first hand with KTo, would be right to fold and not 3-bet if I know my opponents are only opening premium hands? Most of my opponents will call a 3-bet and not 4-bet with AA, KK, QQ, JJ or AK. Also they open raise very few hands, sometimes limping with the same hands that I said would call and not 4-bet. This means that when we see the flop after a raise (and much more if they called a 3-bet) they will have a lot of overpairs and AQ. They see me as a loose aggressive player (which I’m not), so I’m more inclined to fold in this spot. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s the right thing to do given how much I know my opponents. We’ve been playing for years, so I think we all know each other well.

What's the secret to staying in a tournament when other players have multiple bullets to start and play super aggressive at the beginning??? Is it to have multiple bullets of my own and play my own game or play just as aggressive??? Is it to avoid playing such players and let other players deal with them??? Is it to play only premium hands in premium position??? Is it to start a little later in the tournament to avoid some of the drama???

One of my biggest challenges is what to do when everyone limps to me in the button. Should I squeeze? Call? Fold? If I do squeeze how much? What hands should I squeeze with?
@aliceq656
@aliceq656 2 года назад
Depends on your stack depth, you can just raise to 1/3 or go all in, then you'll find pretty much everyone just gonna fold there, those are all dead money. Actually, you can do this same way if you were in the big blind, this technique works perfectly especially in your local small buy-in tournament, everyone is just too passive.
@luisrosias6203
@luisrosias6203 2 года назад
Depends on the table. If you've seen all these limp hands go to the showdown and know their range is super wide, then you can apply pressure with the top 25% hands. You just have to find the right bet size to get like half the people at least to fold. I would be very wary of bluffing in this spot as someone around the table is bound to have a stronger hand that you might have trouble bluffing out if they're just calling stations which if they all limp is high chance. The scary part is when you have a shark among the fish. Someone who limps with premium knowing the fish will call and the other sharks will raise wider range due to fish.
@jppagetoo
@jppagetoo 2 года назад
The question is too general, there isn't a single answer that applies to all possibilities. It depends on your hand, stack, payout implications, etc. The money in the middle makes it desirable to play a bit wider and the button should open pretty wide as it is. Limping behind is weak in most circumstances.

Hi Jonathan, the games I play in, a common situation I encounter is it will limp to me on the BTN and I will raise to 4-5X and will get 5 callers. How to I play against this? Should I play a slighter higher range and make it 4X + 1BB per limper, or just limp behind with a wider range.
@stephenosullivan8270
@stephenosullivan8270 2 года назад
Yes I encounter the same very often. Any open raise if you go 3x or less you get multiple callers. And with limpers you need to go very big but then risk all folds when you have premium.
@Julz--93
@Julz--93 2 года назад
I also encounter this. It’s very frustrating because your equity goes down the drain. These kinds of players are too sticky and just want to see a flop. If you have enough chips you can go 3x the BB + 1BB for every limper. Even if you get 1-2 callers your aggression will pay off because they will do a lot of check folding. Probably tighten your range a little.
@Optable
@Optable 2 года назад
Tighten up and if the players are that bad, they're not going to recognize that you are only playing suited broadways if you don't have a pocket pair. Bad players can't even begin to assemble ranges, especially on the flop

I think you need to make a video how to play UTG with short stack. I had too many friends shoving AKoff or AQs for their 10BB and they have lost every single time, because they met 99 or QQ or big stack called them with any two etc.
@ryancollinsvideo
@ryancollinsvideo 2 года назад
I would 100% be shoving 10bb UTG with AK
@br4insful
@br4insful 2 года назад
@@ryancollinsvideo this strategy is morally old and doesn't work anymore even against the same kind of players. I just did shove it and 99 called, so I became 35th at the tournament when I had a chance to be way up the ladder. 99 from the BTN shouldn't have shoved himself when UTG had already but he didn't know that, too.

you can also blind out waiting for aces or get your 99 in when you have 4 of your original 10 bbs left. Now you only need to win a flip and you're back where you started. Also mid pocket pairs do much worse against 99-QQ than AQo so I don't know what's the argument here.

Can you quantify the edge one has over the typical field of players that is realized simply by having a really sound short stack strategy? By this, I mean. Solve for X You expect to win X buyins per event instead of 1.0 (dead average) simply by playing a nearly perfect short stack strategy. Does this matter more in satellites and turbos?
