In this video I show you how to start using your looper pedal. I'm using a simple TC Electronics Ditto looper, but you can use whatever looper you're comfortable with....I show you how to take a 2 chord song, 3 chord song, and a 4 chord song to build your background... perfect for an acoustic gig or just a fun practice session!

Thanks Barry. Fun lesson. My looper just arrived about a week or so ago and I haven't had the time to plug it in yet. This is incentive. Back home in East Tennessee in the early to mid-60s, I had a H.S. teacher named Clevenger. Now I've had two teachers named Clevenger. I'll probably pay more attention to you than I did to her though. I'll subscribe too.

Great work Barry - many thanks. Your video has given me some ideas and inspiration as I build myself up to re-entering the world of Open Mic playing after a longish period away (cue Covid pandemic - the year the world stood still!). I saw another comment that mentioned the idea that it would be good to also provide some details and explanation about the whys and wherefores of your use of the capo in relation to the foundation key of the song. Building on that thought, I wondered if you might consider taking each of these songs and making an individual video for each one so that you can go into the details of capo and chord family and their relationship with the “base line key” of the song. I have a reasonable understanding but it’s far from complete so details based on a specific song in the way you have presented it with the use of a looper (for performance (e.g. Open Mics) use perhaps, as will be the case with me) would,I think, be a great service to your followers and potentially grow your base. I appreciate it’s not a quick thing to produce but it would be so beneficial to many such as myself I feel. Thanks for what you are doing. Keep on rockin’ and loopin’ 😎🎶

Thank you Bluesman for your thoughtful comment... Very much appreciated... You have given me inspiration to make those videos about using a capo...I do know that not everyone is clear on the uses/purposes of the capo, so I would love to help with that.... I'm so happy to hear you're getting back into being out there with your music.... I also like your terms "base line key" and "foundation key", as I think that would make sense to many who aren't as up on music theory.... Thank you for that... Best wishes getting out and showing your talent🎵🎸.... Rock on!

Really enjoyed your video. A quick suggestion: it would be very helpful if the fretboard was always in frame and/or if you had a pdf with the chords/lead sheet. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on looping.

So after 30 years of not playing I want to get back into it. Was going to buy an acoustic, like a decent Yamaha, now after watching this maybe I should get an acoustic electric and get a looper pedal. 🤔
@bcmusic71
@bcmusic71 3 дня назад
Here's my two cents... Yamaha makes great guitars and fine instruments all round.... To me it always made sense to buy an acoustic/electric because it gives me more options... Still sounds beautiful acoustically, but I can plug it in for a gig, or use pedals when I need it to.... I've owned and been happy with Yamaha, Seagull (fine guitars as well), even owned a Sire which punched well above its price... I've had this Martin now for a while, and always thought a Martin would play kinda stuffy? but I love this guitar.... Also still own a Recording King which reminds me of the Martin sound.... Lots of options.... Have fun and much success 🎵🎸

You should. Yamahas are great in lower price range. I have an Alvarez I love as well. Taylor 214ce used or Martins Streetmaster(?) series. Find one that feels good in your hand and resonates decently well so you stay light on the strumming.

Any tips on how to make looping work when the chorus and bridge have different chord progressions and or rhythm to the verses. Much more difficult than if just one progression throughout
@bcmusic71
@bcmusic71 2 дня назад
With that scenario here's what I've done in the past... Some loopers, like the Boss rc3, will let you store an mp3.... I've actually played through a whole song into the rc3, or you can record on a DAW and pull the mp3 into the looper, and store it for playback...I don't think this small Ditto in my video will store other mp3's, but a lot of them do... The Ditto X4 will let you do two loops on the fly, like a verse/chorus.... Or store.....I hope this makes sense...

Yeah, I understand this video is about looping. However, instead of saying, i'm putting the capo on 3, and playing these chords. Or, i'm putting the capo on 5, and playing these chords. Why not explain why your putting the capo in that position, and what are the chords your playing?
@bcmusic71
@bcmusic71 День назад
Thank you for your suggestion!... You are correct that my intent is to mainly teach and inspire how to use a looper.... I'm just trying to find the sweet spot to keep my videos moving without rambling too much.... Trying to keep people from skipping too much because that affects the algorithm... That being said, I do plan on making a video about the reasons to use a capo, as you're not the first to mention this... Thanks again... Best wishes...🎵🎸

Very nice Barry. Question, on Wicked Games, how are you deciding which chords to add to the 2nd phrasing?
@bcmusic71
@bcmusic71 18 часов назад
Thank you!... Good question... Couple people have inquired about my capo use, so I am planning a follow up video to explain more... The foundation chords are Bm, A, E .... To play along with those, I know if I put the capo at 2nd fret, an Am chords sounds like a Bm...a G chord will sound like an A chord.... And a D chord will sound like an E chord... Because the capo is up two frets, anything I play sounds two half steps higher...Am=Bm.... Watch for my follow up video explaining this in more detail 🙂... Best wishes🎵
