Hi Coach...great job as always. One thing we started doing on sprint draw was.. blocking it like a wrap play. So if we are sprint to the right, then the ROG or ROT pulls and leads up on the backside LB ( this is our uncovered rule. We always pull our uncovered lineman.. even or odd front determines that) All other blocking is the same and steps are all the same.

Ah the sprint draw a Gus Malzahn staple. I like using across and return motion with the wide receivers. I also like to motion my H Back into a 2 Back formation and then sprint out. Do you ever throw a slow RB screen off of your Sprint Outs. I don’t like sending the play side tackle out to block. I have him invite the DE upfield and then push him in that direction to make a throwing lane for the QB. I’ve grown found of sprinting out to 617/619 (Fade/Speed Out) and 8/8H (Snag) on the goal line. I know people don’t like Snag out of sprint out. You have to teach it differently than regular snag. The progression is Flat, Corner, Slant. But the Slant is an automatic stop over the slot because it’s a sprint out. if it’s man it turns into a pick to free up the corner.

Coach, You know if it is good enough for Gus, then it is good enough for me. I need to incorporate more motion other than running back bouncing. How often do you motion a WR or H-Back? I've never thrown the RB screen off Sprint Out. How effective is it? If it is effective then I will look to install a couple for next year. Never thought about roll out to Snag. That sounds like a fantastic idea.

Coach McKie Believe me I know. I practically run Gus’s offense with a little bit of air raid flavor to it. People like to think football is complicated but he’s ran the same offense since he coached high school. I don’t go crazy with the motion if I can teach my H -Back 4 motions I’m good. I can do all kinds of Stuff. I teach him In, Out, across, and return Motion. He’s the only guy that needs to know all 4. Too many coaches waste time but coaching all players all 4. I teach our x and z In and Our reverse motion (Utah). I teach the running back jet, bounce, and back motion (motion into backfield). And I teach the Y and H jet Motion. You can disguise your favorite pass/Run using motion. Pass Ex. : Trips RT H Accross Y Shallow. Run Ex. : Slant RT Y Jet Patriot (Power) Just an idea that came across my mind just wondering if you had done it. What are your other 2 sprint outs.

+Andrew Clarke Coach, I'd love to get in touch with you and talk about your offense. Is there any way I could call you?

Sorry I’m a bit late to the table on this one...but how would you block this vs an odd front? What rules would you have in place for the PS Guard who’s uncovered?

Coach, I am sorry to bother you.. I know ive asked a few questions this week, and I'm sure your busy with the holiday season.. feel free to answer this 6 months from now if need be (haha). If you were starting an Spread RPO offensive playbook (middle School) from scratch, what would be the first 5 plays you would teach? After watching and analyzing your Videos for a year... my guess would be: 1) Trips inside Power RPO (Bull and Bear) with F snag 2) Trips Pin and Pull Outside RPO with Y snag 3) 2 back Inside zone (Bull and Bear), with F fast motion screen RPOs 4) 2 back, Y cross 5) Trips, Counter Trey How Close Did I Get??? ;) Happy Holidays!

Coach Dad, The only thing I would change would only have two run plays, put in Y-Stick and Y-Corner, and have the Shallow crossing series in. Once you have that then you are covered for everything the defense throws at you. Happy Holidays to you as well Coach.

Stealing that Sprint Out Draw and Throwback Screen play for sure.

Good stuff coach. I was also thinking that you could combine the WR screen with the regular sprint out play. If the sprint side is covered, then qb does what he's been coached to do on the screen. Of course, easier said than done.

Coach Myers, Thanks for the compliment coach. It means a lot. I like your idea of the concept, just don't know how you would rep it. My guys have a problem sometimes of staring down the Sprint Out concept for too long. Lord knows what they would do if they had a screen backside. Have you run that play before? What are your coaching points?

Coach McKie no. I haven't run it from Sprint out, but from traditional drop back I have. It marries up nicely. I didn't block it quite the same though. It was three step drop from the gun, which might marry somewhat with having the QB take three steps on the Sprint and then turn and throw if need be. It would be a totally different throw though. Might be worth tinkering with, maybe not. I think I just like having multiple options in one play.

Coach, have you ever considered putting the tunnel screen in the same play as your sprint out and giving your QB (or pressbox guy) the capability to run either one instead of waiting for the next play to run your screen after seeing the defense run toward your sprint out

Ever think about half slide approach or a fold by BS G and C to get the BS backer on the sprint draw? We do it that way and it has been an explosive play for us. We switch to that approach if we know we are not getting a blitz heavy team or BS LB that will try run through vs sprint out.
@CoachMcKie

Coach McCoy, Thank you for leaving a comment. I haven't done that way of sprint draw. How often would you call the sprint out draw during a game? Is it more of a 'feel' call or a 'I've called sprint out five times and now I will call sprint draw' kind of call?
@jerrymccoy4308

Depends on how much we use the sprint out in a game/ previous games we have traded with a team. To me its is a play that has to be set up by getting teams running horizontal but you can start out with it if you see in film they LB's flow hard. The most in a single game maybe 2 times, we used it most often as a constraint play to the sprint out. Also not a bad blocking scheme if you roll out in empty formations and run sprint draw with QB vs 4-1 box.
