It's definitely a dance done by all kinds of humans all over the world now. However, it was Black Americans who invented it, and that imbues Lindy Hop with a specific culture that is important to the artistic identity of the dance. Also, given current cultural events, I feel it is especially important to give credit where credit is due.

@@LauraGlaess Well, all the dress up that goes hand in hand with lindy is definitly of white origin // most blacks would not have been able to purchase those stichings and fancy stuff back then, and most whites neither. Blacks trying to imitate white business men - how whites dressed (the suit) back when when visiting ballrooms etc. So I am not sure what you call "it imbues a specific culture" / do you dance in a barn or a ballroom build by white architects and white civil engineers - how stupid it sounds for me to mention "white" here, is incredible. Than I can see an LA lindy hop or a more ballroom like lindy hop (gene kelly etc) that branched a few years later. Yeah, that goes back to the annoying and really problamatic discussion about "black lindy hop" or "white lindy" etc. Again: focus on separation, on splitting communities etc. I dont like splitting pleople in groups. Why not have it be inclusive? Why would you focus on the color? In a historical context, I absolutly agree and beginners should be taught the origin of the dance as it is an important part of the dance. But do you take out your new smartphone and tell people: "that is my new smartphone which is a product of white engineering"? So why mention it every time with lindy? Why do you focus on color?
