I appreciate your intro and the terminology of " *visual* art ". I have always found it frustrating for only the visuals of a game to be considered (or at least called) "art".
Thank you so much for releasing these. As someone keenly interested in game design but without much technical foundation in it these are accessible but get deep enough to be challenging. Fascinating. The discussion early in the episode about including game design under the definition of Art reminded me of Art History courses in college and talking about how long it took for photography to be included as part of the pantheon of "real" art forms.
A Lesson Is Learned But the Damage Is Irreversible is one of my favourite webcomics ever made, it captures an era as well as a bunch of other stuff. Beautiful stuff. Also great to hear Cifaldi doing the interview.
The thing is, i tried to listen to this talk on YT but the start was so messy, so i stopped for a while. But then i played the game and really enjoyed all the commentary David gave! So yea, weird start for the discussion but then i feel like David really opened up
Jon goes out of his way to avoid talking about the story and meaning of Braid, so hearing David talking about it at length was really surprising to me. Great interview!
Details within details connected to details, all intertwined meaningfully. That sense of artistry really comes through in the game feel. With how artistic & design intent permeates all layers and aspects of the game, it's no wonder that the game feels so cohesive in its identity. The notes about "tonal continuity" and "search for truth of the world" mentioned in this episode are spot-on. So insightful and articulate. Thanks for another great episode.
Woah, pretty cool that at 40:34. If he had done most of the new art in procreate there are some chances that he has the Timelapse’s that procreate records of each document brush history. That would be a sight to see. Else, really cool already, we are also exploring procreate to expand on an art of our next game as one of the artists basically swims like dolphin in water with that app.
I find this quite weird. I'm a regular listener to The Insert Credit podcast. Cifaldi is a regular panelist. And whenever the topic is brought up or they have the opportunity to do so, they discredit and speak badly about Jon Blow and his games. Though Cifaldi is more charitable towards Blow and his games.
The insert credit clique are extremely left wing to quite abnormal degrees, I can imagine them being overbearing on a podcast and Cifaldi feeling like he doesn’t want to push back too hard.
@@SpeedfreakUK "extremely left wing to quite abnormal degrees" Does that mean that they SUPER advocate for equality, respect for POC and the LGBT community?
@@metinevrenkurtulus Weird, you're right. Can't find anything either. I looked through David's tweets and it looks like they must've settled it since he deleted them, in fact it looks like he either stopped using twitter for a while or just deleted a lot of tweets. Basically David accused Jon of not properly rewarding his work. Something to the tune of "Jon became a millionaire, while I struggle to pay the bills". I think this was in response to something Edmund McMillen said? I don't recall, sorry I'm sure this time around they could find a contract that made both sides happy. We've to assume Braid: AE will make more money than the original, right?
I find it infuriating that XBOX is turning into Microsoft Gaming as the logo has an ugly descender which could be avoided with: Microsoft *Games* Having no g descender and more emphasis placed on the Games given that in past their focus on all on the BOX which sounded like it was dead on arrival by being called the EX-BOX rather like the dead Parrot in the _Monty Python_ sketch being referred to as an "EX-Parrot". Just something I have always thought was a terrible name for a console, and ID@Xbox is an over designed mess that is supposed to be Independent Developers at Xbox, which sounds like a group of professional mourners hired to attend a wake.
