Why would I want to be in ketosis all the time it's a state of emergency for the body LOL for women it can disregulate high thyroid hormones if you're in ketosis all the time
This is absolutely misinformation I fast for 19 hours a day and I'm not in ketosis, most people do not go in to ketosis until 36 hours into fastingThis is absolutely misinformation I fast for 19 hours a day and I'm not in ketosis, most people do not go in to ketosis until 36 hours into fasting according to fasting experts like Jason Fong
@@tigertalks1567 I didn't say you need to be in ketosis all the time. 0.5 mmol/L is considered ketosis and if you follow the steps in this video you can likely achieve that in 12 hours.
I was in a moderate state this morning 4.0 mmol/l . That's when I do my weight training. I have the first meal right after training with 40g of carbs and 20g of fructose. This gives a short spike of insulin for muscle growth. The last meal is no carb, mod protein and high fat. This puts me back into KETO before bed and into the next morning for my next training session. At 70yrs I am still building muscle! And thanks for that keto strip tip about not being accurate. I was wondering why there was such a discrepancy between the finger stick and the urine strips.
@@tigertalks1567 That's only if you're a full sugar burner. If you're keto you're in ketosis most of the time if not always. If you're not in ketosis after a 19 hour fast then you're eating tons of carbs.
I am down 51 pounds. I doubt that the entire 14lbs is water. I lost 10ilbs in the first week and continued to lose each week. Sure, about 8 ilbs is glycogen stores being depleted but the rest is fat and the first place to empty of fat is the liver. Keep it up!
Hello, Kate. Thank You for your informative content. I started about 2-3 months ago having my first meal between 11 am - 1 P.M. then have dinner between 5- 7. This allows my body to have at least 15-18 hours without eating. I have lost around 15 pounds and down 2 pant sizes. I turned 70 a few months ago , I have more energy. One key factor that works for me is to work out intensely 3 times per week. My goal by the end of 2023 is obtain to get off all meds.
Definitely on the right track and you should be proud of your progress so far! hopefully your friends and family will hold you up as an example of what is optimal!! I have no doubt you'll be off all your meds soon!
@@nydeviantgaming6872 if you are trying to get into ketosis ie ketones up, glucose down you gotta stop eating. Some people can get into ketosis this way in 24 hrs, sometimes it’ll take longer 48, 72 hrs, If you’ve never fasted you gotta work up to it. Good luck.
Tip: Potassium is probably the most needed electrolyte for our cells but do not dismiss the others. Avacados have a lot and leafy greens have a fair amount as well. I would rank Magnesium which a good amount is found in leafy greens as second most important. 2nd tip: if you are a diabetic (like me) that struggles with high glucose definitely take berberine to help balance it which is in tumeric. Also when it spikes get more potassium in your as your body as soon as you can because your body overworks and uses a lot more potassium while the glucose is high causing an imbalance.
I started at 302lbs in May 2022 and decided enough was enough. I found what's called the Keto egg fast along with IF 18/6 or 16/8. I dropped around 10 lbs in 2wks. I stayed on the egg fast a while bc I wasn't sure how to transition and fear of messing up. I went to the Dr last week and was down 52lbs. The same Dr who told me I could never do Keto bc I have an "unhealthy" relationship with food. She's right but again seeing that 302 was not ok with me and I've always been a big girl/woman, etc. But I'm older (58 this month) and the aches, etc are real!!! I try to do clean Keto about 90-95% of the time but I still like my diet soda.😬🙄 I do clean fats and still eat a lot of eggs...I LOVE eggs lol. I'm not much of a red meat person so I do grass-fed bone broth powder (in my coffee) coconut oil and coconut butter, ghee along with of course olive and avocado oils. I try to stick with 20 net carbs a day but I find I easily can hit way below that, sometimes less than 10 net carbs in a day. I need to start working out but even at 250lbs it can be hard. 😰 I hope next month to get a blood ketone meter. Also no one talks about doing Keto on a very fixed income. It's hard doing organic this and grass-fed that when funds are limited. I used to always say eating quality food is for people with a lot of money and not for those who are low income, which is very sad.
52lb down is huge! Kudos to you!!! Truth is, don’t stress about organic and grass-fed if it’s not in your budget. Everything’s on a spectrum. You don’t need to buy the best to get results ❤️
@@HealthCoachKait Thank you for the encouragement. I try not to stress about it and just keep moving forward. I take the weight loss at 10lb intervals. Anything more I know I will get stressed lol. So when I hit 240, then I can say, ok 230 here we come. 🙂
I did fast many times in the past years, before knowing ketones exist or the keto-diet becoming a thing, but in my rudimentar experience, the simple long fasting (water *only*) is how best results are achieved. I must add that staying days on water only is not for everyone, that's when those tricks become valuable.
I’m 61y/o just lost 44lbs on Ketovore; 30lbs to go. Haven’t run in about 20 years. Had to re-learn. Haven’t run/walked Fartlek since the 80s. It was fantastic! Unfortunately, I jarred loose a kidney stone. One less stone to pass.
Good points. Most people fast without knowing it for 12 hours. It is the time between dinner (8 pm) and breakfast (8 am), if they don't snack or drink milk before bed.
I was going to tell my story but as I typed away I realized it was just me typing and trying to understand my diet problem. I am doing the right things but have hit a wall and will just have to figure it out as I go. I'll continue to watch though I am already following this routine. 60 years old, 5' 6" currently 180 lbs from 203lbs in 7 weeks. Despite that I feel like I'm failing.
Thanks for this video. I always forget about the electrolytes. I usually get the keto flu and feel super dehydrated and constipated by the 2nd week. I have to remember that this go round. One thing that helps me get into ketosis is doing a water fast for 36 hours. It’s tougher and takes a little longer but once I break my fast I lose weight within the first week between 5-8 lbs and then consistently 3-5 lbs per week after. I’ve tried to slow it down so I don’t lose too much weight but it’s been tricky. I no longer need to lose a lot of weight at a time but I find that being lazier with the ketosis just keeps me in a yo-yo effect. Which is exhausting and discouraging. It’s either moderate or the therapeutic level keto for me.
Back in the '70's I was on the Akins diet under medical supervision. I was in a test group. It was suggested that the first week to 10 days should be extended for as long as I could handle it. This part of the diet required you to consume only cream cheese. After the first week I didn't feel hungry at all and continued for at least a month. I lost a lot of my weight then. I'm switching my diet to carnivore eventually. For now I'm increasing my meat and fat intake while using up some foods I'll no longer eat using them very judicially and giving some away. I'll use cream cheese to limit my cravings, but I've already reduced sugar products because of a tendency towards Type 2, so there isn't much to eliminate. Thanks for the clarity of how to get into ketosis fast.
Very interesting strategy 😀. I would just say that low intensity cardio or even cardio doesn't deplete glycogen stores before 2 or 3 hours of exercise.
Started out keto Was 250lbs A1c was 11 Most days BS was 11 American BP 220/90 Pulse 90 Now170 A1c 5.6 BP This morning 112/56 pulse 56 . More of a lifestyle now.
I did keto 2 years ago for 5 months. I’m 75, I do Intermittent fasting 16/8, and eat low to moderate carbs. My gall bladder was removed, so you think I can go on Keto again with no gallbladder……because it is high fat?
Hunger will always challenge mental strength. You must overcome everything mentally. It has been taking years to overcome fatty liver and gluconeogenesis. Fasting is the cure for me. I am 5'11" @ 180 lbs. I still have 40 lbs to lose to get to normal weight. Hundreds of thousands of calories in storage, 144,000 to be more accurate. at 2000 Kcal per day, that's about 72 days of fasting.
#4 and the most effective to me: sleep overnight and do it in seven hours, instead. You can even smell the ketones on your breath. People can be on any diet and as long as their calorie intake is too high, they will continue to build fat cells. 20 minutes of sprints doesn't burn fat. You have to do over 30 minutes of cardio. I do seven hours a week.
I needed this! I got so discouraged because I was getting back on track with keto and after four days of being perfectly low carb The keto P strips indicated I was nowhere near in ketosis. But maybe I was. Anyway maybe I will try again soon
All if this depends on how healthy your metabolism is. Could take you up to a week or more to get into ketosis if you have a very slow unhealthy metabolism.
Just a side note, can't believe how much you look like Jennifer Carpenter who played Dexter's sister in Dexter. got yourself a new sub too from Australia.
Hi, Please answer below query :) Why do we need to add too much fat in our meal if we already have a lot of stored fat which needs to be burned? Shouldn't it be low to moderate fats in meal so that ketosis focus on the already existing fats in the body?
Thanks Kait. Do you have a recommended amount of time to spend in Ketosis before consuming some carbs again? Ie: 10 days in ketosis and then have a carb day and repeat? 🤷♂️
What?? No! You can't have any carbs. No cheat day. Only up to 25 carbs a day forever. There is no cheat day or you'll have to start over every single time. Keto flu etc. Sometimes if you cheat once it only takes 3 days as long as it was only 1 meal of carbs. Don't do it. Don't waste your hard work on a cheat day. Keto doesn't work like that. If you eat carbs and sugar all day one day, it will take the full week or whatever to get back into ketosis. Don't do it!
First thing she says is 20 minutes of sprints. Wow, should say for healthy people with no knee and age issues. I want to get in ketosis but sprinting is impossible. I have 2 knee replacements and terrible inflammation.
Hi, great videos , thank you. I have become a subscriber. One quick question if you do not mind. I recently stopped smoking, and to help quit the habit I now am chewing gum. Does chewing gum knock me out of Ketosis? .. keep up the great videos..
Just Subscribed. Kait, took a look at your recent videos. Go back to your Dark Hair. Looks soooooo much better. I don't mean to be rude, but the dark hair with your killer eyebrows is QUITE a combination! Enjoyed this first video, and will be watching more. Thanks.
Liked subbed. Thanks, but as a Vegan the keto prog you described would be difficult. Luckily I’m a triathlete … so got that going for me but won’t touch meat or dairy as I’m against animal cruelty
I lost 40 lbs in less than one year eating a whole food diet. I had tried keto as I used to have seizures. I lost but it came Back. I was exercising 2 hours a day with 3 rest days I needed carbs to not become a wicked witch. If you can eat Whole Foods you’ll lose and it will stay off. Carbs are good especially complex carbs. Unless you’re in a body competition. Then well I hate to be the one to tell you but right before your not exactly kind to your body. Dehydrated among much more. I’m 120 5’3 in the best shape of my life. Whole Foods.. it’s an idiot proof way to eat.
So please explain the correct intake order. I am unable to walk much but I will do my best each day. I would just like to know a daily schedule using the 3 steps Thank you for your help 😊
Under 10 clean carbs a day & I don’t go in to ketosis. Will do 12-3-30 on the treadmill daily. Got the flu. Only drank fluids for 4 days. No ketosis. I am so confused.
Please emphasize for people the amount of sodium, potassium, and magnesium required daily to replenish electrolytes. It’s far more than people realize. A little packet of something a day or a pill is NOT gonna do it. It’s 5000-7000 mg of sodium a day depending on your activity level over and above what’s in it in your food, 4000mg of potassium, and 400-500mg magnesium. Preferably magnesium glycinate for bioavailability. Put it all in water and sip throughout the day. Do not shoot those amounts-instant and violent bathroom breaks will result. Look up making solé water for the sodium component. Use NuSalt or NoSalt for the potassium. Magnesium can be a nightly supplement.
Great video! I was confused about a few things, especially ketosis, and you explained simply. I am just starting my journey into a carnivore (or keto) lifestyle and I'm getting as much info. as possible to start off strong! For the electrolytes: is there a cheaper brand or product for us poor folk😁 to begin with? Thanks!
Are used to be a runner are used to run lotta miles a lot of miles and I did a lot of races to half marathons then I got arthritis in the hip. I actually just got a hip surgery and my hip so I am done running and I walk and I lift every morning while I’m fasting him.
I just love people who promote fasting. What I hear is if you want to lose weight stop eating. That's what fasting is - a nice way of saying stop eating. As a newbie starting out, if I could simply stop eating I wouldn't be watching videos like this.
When is the best time of the day to employ these techniques to get into ketosis? Could I come home around 5PM, do some sprints, down some MCT then start a fast?
I love the Keto diet. I lost 100lbs. Then I lost my dad to cancer. I drowned my sorrows in ice cream. Now I need to lose 50lbs again. Ugh. It’s my fault but I guess there are worse vices I could have turned to.
only thing I disagree on are the piss test strips. I had fantastic success with them and they worked just fine, I tested 2x a day. no problems and they read me accurately. esp days i had a few too many carbs. source: did keto for a full year
Great stuff... I fall out of ketosis due to a number of reasons. Mostly bad. But, one issue that I run into is that I play tennis competitively 4 times a week. Actually, twice a week, it is practice, so I'm not too concerned about my energy level/performance. But when I play a serious match, I struggle late in the match where I lose my explosiveness. This could be overcome by doing Targeted Keto, but everything I have found about it on the Internet is about working out. Trouble is with a tennis match is that I can playing anywhere from an hour to nearly three hours. So, figuring out the amount of carbs to play well, but still burn through the glycogen to get back into ketosis quickly... Well, that's my question!?!
I feel you! I play ice hockey and ran into the same issue being strict with keto. Targeting carbs is key to maximising performance throughout the game. I will do a full video on this!
Ah chronic cardio like that does not have the same benefits as sprinting and can actually worsen your health 😥 When you're sprinting it is a maximal effort, that cannot be sustained for more than 30-60 seconds. For extended cardio, you will get the most benefits from staying in zone 2. Mark Sission has a lot of great info on chronic cardio www.marksdailyapple.com/the-evidence-continues-to-mount-against-chronic-cardio/
Normal function is depleting glycogen so cells use ketones. In absence of glycogen the liver takes circulating fats and makes ketones that circulate and cells then know to use them in place of glucose. Once the body gets used to using them the next thing the body does is release stored fat to make ketones. This absolutely does not work in my body and I can’t figure out where the process is glitching. I rarely get detectable ketones on strips as if my body is using what I make, however, even with no carbs my body will not tap into my stores. I keep gaining weight eating clean keto and it’s not muscle. I’ve tried low protein high fat keto and I get irregular heartbeats, mid protein but then I gain weight, tried omad, tried 48h fasts every week. My body doesn’t seem to want to make ketones from my fat or maybe can’t make ketones. I’m baffled because logically it should be working.
I'm not an expert but lost 75 lbs on clean keto. Are you tracking macros and weighing/measuring food? I meet a lot of people who didn't lose on keto because they were eating too much dietary fat and calories. If you provide all the fat you need through diet, your body has no incentive to tap into fat reserves. Once you are fat adapted, try eating leaner cuts of meat so you get plenty of protein but less fat.
Hey everyone...I'm wondering about how the measurements of fat vs protein work. What is meant by 80% fat to 20% protein? Obviously it's not by weight, but I don't know what else it could be.
I have a Keto/blood glucose meter where I have to stick myself and insert it into the meter and wait for a reading. I don't know how accurate it is, but I lost almost 80lbs in a yr. I'm looking at losing up to 55 more lbs over the winter. EDIT: I normally fast for at least 18 hrs but have done 36 hrs
I had done keto in the last few years and lost 3stone but have put 2 stone back on through my binge eating disorder😢 I am desperate to shift this weight again as I am prediabetic 😢 but I have fibromyalgia so I can't do high cardio work but can go to the gym next week and maybe do longer workouts working muscles and burn out all the sugar in my muscles?
