In this video I'll go over three substrate options that you can choose from for your corn snake. There are lots of different substrates that you can choose from when it comes to bedding for your corn snake. They all have their advantages and disadvantages for both the snake and it's keeper. If you are a new corn snake owner or are considering getting a corn snake, then one of the first things you have to do is set up an enclosure and decide and what to use for substrate. I hope this video can help you decide what will be the best option for both you and your corn snake.

Do you feed in the enclosure? Or do you remove the snake and feed in a separate container?

I always feed them in their enclosures. handling them and moving them before and after they eat isn’t best for their digestion. I just make sure they know the difference between my feeding routines and my coming out for handling routines.

Hello, is it okay to pull the snake out of the aspen to hold it? I only had him for a week, but he is handleable and I do not want him to not want to be handled if I take too long to hold him. He is about 4 months old I think. Over 12 inches long. I also thought about changing his substrate to paper towel so he can see when I am trying to pick him up. Please help me determine what is best.

I think that’s okay if the snake doesn’t seem stressed about it. And for how long to handle them, reading your snake to decide if they feel good about it I’d good.

I like aspen for baby colubrids, especially corn snakes because being able to burrow makes them feel safe and secure and that will help the socialization better.
