I’ve coached in Europe and now in the US and it interesting the difference of coaching between the 2 places. Definitely more challenging in Europe for the kids, less politics, harder trainings. My players in the US are a lot softer especially at a young age. And parents in the US think they also are coaches most of the time, giving Terrible advice to their kids. Just saying.

Jason was my soccer coach and his ways of working has inspired me to get to where i am today. I am a successful coach to a fantastic squad of players. I would not have got there without the guidance and listening to Jason. Good luck with Canada boss we are all proud of you. ***KEEP LISTENING PEOPLE AND I WISH YOU EVERY SUCCESS WITH YOUR COACHING JOURNEY***

Great stuff, Jason. Every coach started with zero experience... so true and applicable in so many other areas as well. Keep it coming! 💪🏼

Great tips just about to start my coaching career as my amateur playing days are coming to an end . As a fellow English man can’t help but think this video should have the word football rather then soccer 😂👀

That's great to hear that you love being a coach. If you love it, that helps any players you coach to love it too. Good luck in your coaching.

Very helpful video! I just started coaching soccer with high school students! I was wondering if you have any tips on how to keep them all focused or concentrated during practice because it can sometimes very hard since they tend to goof around a lot! Thanks!

US recreational, I realized the other day 1/2 of my team is on some sort of ADHD med, Girls U11. How do you deal with such changes in personality from practice to practice?

for 7 v 7 how should I line the team up for games when we only have 7 on the team and there are no back ups. what is the best rotation of the players to keep them fresh when the only break they get is half time? ( we are a small team who play teams of 10 to 12 and are on the field the hole game) there is not an option for more players so I have to work with what I have and I am trying to keep the kids from getting burnt out. The kids have been great and put in there all but we have a hard time keeping up with the other teams.

If you are in a position where you can't recruit any more players to allow some rest and rotation, then I would think about how you label success with your players. As a collective it might be hard to stay in games but if you give each player a single technical objective. Regardless of the score during or at the end of the game, discuss how each player performed their objective. That way the players might get more success even if they get over run in games.

I would use a 2-3-1. 2 defenders, 3 midfielders, and 1 striker. I’d put a speedster up front who can get some breakaways, dribble the defenders, get some 1v1’s with the goalie, and the midfielders support the attack. I’d put a good communicator at center mid who can feed good passes up to the striker. On the back line I’d put my more reliable defender on whichever side the opposing team’s striker’s strong foot is because statistically their attack will veer that direction. And a solid athlete who can anticipate the game in goal. Of course I have no idea what your players are like, but I’ve found that at the younger levels the scorers also make some of the best keepers. So I’d maybe load the center positions (goalie, center mid, and striker) and rotate those center three players every third of the game. Then I’d swap the left and right defenders with their corresponding midfielders as needed. I like a strong/fast counter attack. There’s nothing worse than playing an entire game in your defensive half.

Hi Aiah, RU-vid is a great place to start to learn some of the basics of coaching. However, that won't replace taking a structured coaching course. Maybe check the national soccer association websites, you might find some offer free introduction to coaching courses but greater coaching development will come from the paid courses. Good luck in your coaching journey.
