@@Daniel_AL Sorry. Just the fear of f ing up and long jail term. Probably the people are great. Beautiful women there. But, to keep it simple I would just prefer to stay away.
technically you can’t steal everywhere but the consequences in North Korea would be a lot worse such as a death penalty or a long jail time while almost anywhere else you would get a way better punishment
@@FebruaryHas30Daysyou’ve clearly never been in Russia. I am in no way an advocate of Russia (I left as soon as the war started), but you can photograph as much unfinished buildings as you want, there are no statues of Putin (except for his crazy fan-made), you can go anywhere, visit any shop. Pretty much you can do what you want, but you can’t say “war” and mention “Bucha” or “Irpen”.
@@holesom522 Same. It’s surely intriguing but I won’t ever go because I don’t want to risk my life if I slip up on something small, like saying a leader’s name.
@@holesom522 true... a week ago a law was made for the north korean people banned to laugh or smile for 2 weeks or so because it was the death anniversary of one of their former leader. And if you were seen to be happy, you would be in jail... bro my silly self would start laughing in broken humour babushkaa
@@nova99932 I mean who will take control if Kim and his family all die and the government gets struck down leaving only the civilians who would take over would south Korea take over and make it better 🤔
Probably cuz it’s another picture of an unfinished skyscraper or someone got out from North Korea without getting put to jail or killed I mean if he escaped North Korea government can’t do anything because they can’t just go to another country and kill someone or put them to jail
Atleast they tried it, but still the worst country if u compare rules and rules to other normal countries....north korea is not a normal country. Edit: yea and they are basically squid game 2.0. Dont mess with them
There are some people with a big mouth doing such things and wonder, that they really end up in jail. And jail in non-western countries is not like a hotel. They torture people until they fall sick and die from the disease. And then they declare that it was not them, but the disease.
@@fernandaabreu5625 No number 2 could be either don’t go or if you’re already there then go south of the same continent where things are 300% better 😂
Yeah, the only people they’re effectively manipulating are the citizens inside the country who are effectively brainwashed through their education system to think everything is fine
Yeah, the reason they don't want foreigners taking photos is because they could be a national security risk, not because they don't want to seem perfect lmao Apparently construction sites make a country not perfect? Is infrastructure supposed to magically appear? This is literally just propaganda.
If you're born into wealthy family AND have good social status, you don't have to suffer. At least you have food. Sometimes all that matters to them are their families. But some of them genuinely believe they are living happily and that North Korea is in much better state than rest of the world. The propaganda there is strong and it's really easy to get caught in it.
I just imagined someone having a conversation with another person in North Korea and they accidentally say some ruler's name and police officers jump off some bushes and drag the person away
I get the joke, but what's sad is that all evidence proved that Otto warmbier wasn't even in the hotel at the time. It's a shame what happened to that man, and I hope North Koreas oppressive regime collapses under its own despotism.
Sending movement signals from my brain to my vocal cords for moving back and forth and creating a soundwave in a happy tone and opening my mouth wide to indicate that I am amused.
Its so terribly sad , honestly that somebody my own age can't even get the resources they need and are being tortured and can't live a normal life is so terrifying to me. Im so glad to be south asian and honestly we should all appreciate our normal lives.

I feel like all these rules aren’t really for foreigners, even though they’re directed at them. I think they are to keep native North Koreans from speaking other people and leaving. I know they don’t like it there.
We must pity the people of North Korea for suffering in silence with no freedom of any kind. They are even mandated to smile or wave flags every time the Buffon appears on stage.A tragedy indeed
Yes absolutely. They literally have no freedom, no rights. They get so little food ect and then look at fatty mc fatty dictating to them. I would have no interest in visiting there but I pity their people 😩
It's not about being perfect it's about controlling for spies. If you ever go there, you will realise. You can't make a judgement on Korean lawmaking and their policymakers without studying the Korean war, and American participation in the region. They don't give a shit about looking perfect. They are dirt poor and they know it. They can't afford to be rich.
@@teresawhite4913 ya, but the judgement here in USA and racism is too much, sometimes it might look perfect but noo behind the scenes all they doing is trying to look better than others

because Kim is as big as a narcissist as Hitler, a woman got jailed because she saved her child from a burning building instead of Kim's pictures, even if it is a lie its something Kim would probably do
For those not in the know, four hours of "unsupervised" time just means they take your attendant out of the room but still leave on all the cameras and microphones
1.) Stay locked in your hotel room. 2.) Have fun looking for spy cameras inside your hotel room. 3.) Contemplate how good your life is outside North Korea.
I don't support the practices north korea does, but the country is beautiful, and its desolate city is somehow also beautiful as well. Its an eerie good vibe.
"As long as you can use common sense" "You can't say their leaders names because they are seen as Gods" I guess dad was right about me not having common sense
Yea who the heck wants to be locked up in a hotel room not being able to check out the place like bruh this is why every other country is good BECAUSE YOU CAN ACTUALLY DISCOVER AND TRAVEL AROUND THE COUNTRY
Yes it is. But in most countries, the punishment for stealing is mild and most likely won't earn you jail time, though it really depends on what you steal and how many times you were caught stealing. I don't know what kind of punishment is given for stealing in North Korea but it probably is alot more severe than other places.
I mean....considering a lot of mild crimes can end in execution there (even things that seem innocent to US can end in death there), I'm sure stealing is a pretty good no-no to put on this list. Especially if you have young children with you who may have sticky fingers or just don't know better. When I was 5, I would slip things into my mom's purse because I didn't understand you had to pay for things and it was a small surprise for her lol but in NK, it could land an unsuspecting parent in prison or splattered on a wall.
I commend people like Drew for giving us a sneak peek into this prison of a country, but the problem with visiting NK is that you're basically funding the oppressive regime with your $$, even if you don't do it on purpose.
@@andish9227 I used to believe that this was possible through diplomacy but I have come to the conclusion that Kim and his ilk would rather starve North Korea than ever admit they have any sort of flaw.
@@matthewwolfe9417 I agree but on top of that. Being exposed to nothing for so long and under control with lies set up by your own leaders. I just don’t think the people of NK would be able to handle the truth of the world outside their metaphorical and literal walls. Most of them have fallen so deep into the lie and the only ones that have some sense of awareness are those in utter poverty. I hope the future for the people is brighter than the sun itself and I hope the regime falls to the darkest pits of Tartarus.
Prohibited from using local currency, talking to locals, going anywhere that isn't strictly planned for you, including being locked into your hotel, and being forced to strictly conform to the local habits.. sounds like a great trip 🙃
Right? Idk why anyone would even risk a trip there when they could just go to south Korea instead. I remember hearing about an american guy going there and he ended up going somewhere he wasn't supposed to and they threw him in jail for a bit before sending him back to the US. When he came back here, he died not long after and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. It's extremely sad smh and I'm glad I don't travel in general
To get a good idea on how life in North Korea is, i recommend reading "In order to live" by yeonmi park. She escaped from Nk to China when she was 13 for a bowl of rice. It was the best book I've ever read.. taught me a lot
I also recommend Every Falling Star by Sungju Lee which details his life in and escape from North Korea. I read it for a school thing but it has become one of my favorite books ever.
The differences between the DPRK and the ROK is as stark as one could possibly imagine. Thank God for democracy and the "Greatest Generation" that cemented it for the good people of South Korea.

I recently watched a video about “Otto Warmbier”. My heart broke into pieces while watching his story. JUST DON’T VISIT NORTH KOREA. There are plenty of decent places in the world. We have been growing up in a free world, we don’t even know we are doing a mistake as these things don’t consider mistakes in our countries.
@Joi jellybean That's why I hate China it's north korea but it's less strict version, you can't criticize the government there as well. It's so bizarre and they have the one government policy, and don't get me started on the hong kong oppression, by the government.

this is Asian culture in general but definitely more so in a nation like NK. so unfortunate. I'd love for them to be more free. they don't have to be friends with the West nations but at least let them experience Asia
Also, local shops have people in it that are just like everyone else in the world. I have a friend from NK that escaped to SK when she was 13 and has been working in the US for 5 years. She said that everyone in the working class/poverty level hates it and knows it’s all a sham, but there is little to no way out. Also in the local shops, you can buy black market goods too, so that is another reason why like tour guides won’t take you in there.
