Action should depend on what lures you are using..... Most (95%) spinning rods are fast action.

I LOVE KastPro 13X Finesse braid in 10-30lb. So smooth, strong and soft. Look it up! Changed out all my reels to it and have convinced buddies to use it too.

I have a 25-60 lb spinning rod with a 8000 spinning reel with 50lb braided line. I’m starting off and I’m wondering if I have something solid here for yellowtail and small yellowfin.

I use 8lb braid for my light/ultralight setup for bluegill and trout, 15lb is too heavy for 1/16 or 1/32 oz lures. For most other reels, I do 20# for my bass reels. Japanese braid is far superior to any other line

3000 or less I use 15lb braid but got a ci4 3000 but catching 100lb tarpon with it on land is doubting. But on boat yeah. But caught a 38lb cobia on it. It fought harder than my pb snook 43in 4000 20lb braid. But mainly use my 4000 around structures like docks etc. Stradic for a 4000 And I got a 8000 Saragossa that one I use 50lb braid

Okay so just watched this video on reels but need to know what size Rod to pair with the reels your using and what fish your using them for
@Tallnerdyguy
@Tallnerdyguy 2 года назад
Size rod is up to you. Action is a different story. For a light setup, probably a light/med light? For a 3500, likely a medium or medium/heavy. For 4000+ heavy- extra heavy. You can think for yourself, you don't have to abide by every salt strong advice. He did actually mention the fish he was going for
@smartin1467
@smartin1467 2 года назад
@@Tallnerdyguy worse advice I’ve ever heard each reel and line is made for a specific Rod
@Tallnerdyguy
@Tallnerdyguy 2 года назад
@@smartin1467 not at all. Look at any reel. Does it say size rod? Nope. You can put a 6000 size reel on an ultralight if you wanted or a 1000 size reel on a heavy rod. Size of rod will be up to how you are using it. If you are fishing from the shore and need to bomb out long casts? Get a long rod. If you are stream fishing with trees? Get a short one. If you are such a pro why are you asking basic questions in which you know the answer to?

I match the braid to about 3/4 of rod rating, 6-10 pound rod gets 8 pound braid for example. I would rather be snapped off by line than rod....that being said I have a lack of discipline with tightening drag in heavy structure panic mode. Some fish are very leader wary and I like fg knots so what I fish for leader will almost always be heavier than the main line, salt strong is the go too for fishing info even on the other side of the planet in Oz.

Can you clarify when you say you are using 15lb braid. Are you actually using a 15lb rated braid with a mono diameter equivalent of 4lb test? My first thoughts are the opposite of that where you would be using a 15lb diameter mono equivalent and strength actually way up higher in this scenario, but just would like get clarification. Thanks

You neglected a big factor for those who vertical jig in current, and that is line drag. Larger diameter line causes more drag and because of this requires a heavier jig to remain vertical. So line drag should be number 4 on "things to concider."

Three things I hate about braid, expensive AF, will cut your hands badly even just tying knots sometimes and the sound it makes on the rod is worse than nails on a chalkboard to me. If I had known all that I probably would have stuck with mono but after taking out a mortgage to buy enough for all my reels I feel compelled to stick with it.
@Tallnerdyguy
@Tallnerdyguy 2 года назад
Get finer braid. The 4x is what that rubbing is. Or buy some JDM braid. I am a big fan of Berkeley X9 for smoothness
@DanielLopez-xh9ok

Me too I use x9 Japanese braid very good and not that expensive
@TheIconicFisherman

The highest I can go is 50 lb test braid because as long as you set the drag right you can catch any fish on the planet with just 50 lb test braid. I mean to be honest you could get away with 30 lb test braid and do the same thing. because the world's largest catfish was well over 600 lbs and that fish was caught on 30 lb test braid. and all the guy did was set the drag right so that the fish wouldn't break the line. but I prefer 50 lb test braid for heavier fish just so I have that extra reassurance.
