Agreed! The only exception would be if someone is constantly coughing or sniffling, it's odd to not mention the obvious. But far too many people apologize for being sick when you wouldn't have ever known. Stop apologizing!
@CarlKwan
@CarlKwan 7 лет назад
If you're obviously sick, that's a tricky one. Not sure how the audience would react knowing you're spewing germs. But yes, no need to apologize for everything.

Carl, I've watched a few of your videos now and I have a suggestion. It would be nice for you to create videos about presentation design and then demonstrate to us how to deliver it properly. For example, I really enjoyed your elevator speech video because you designed the structure of it and then delivered it to us. You could also break down each part of the presentation so that we can learn about the actual delivery.
@CarlKwan

I've been planning to release new presentation videos and a course, too. Your suggestion is a great idea and very helpful. Thanks so much for your feedback and support. I hope to get to the new videos soon.

Sir please tell me how to face our friends during seminar when they are trying to make me laugh...and even how to control myself during seminar
@CarlKwan
@CarlKwan 7 лет назад
I guess it depends how important you think the seminar is to your future. If it's important enough, you'll stay focused on the task at hand and not be distracted. It's up to you to decide if the goal you're trying to achieve is greater. Good luck.

So, in short, don't excuse yourself. I like this advice - it's not just about trying to avoid placing the suggestion in your audience that your English is bad or that you're sick and contagious, it's also a sort of work philosophy. You're sick, your car broke, so what? You're giving it your best shot in the current circumstances. And you don't have anything to be sorry for when you're doing your best.

Thanks for the information it was very helpful. I have a question. I need to make a video presentation for a company . also I'm required to perform an aerobics class or pt session Is it the same?
@CarlKwan
@CarlKwan 9 лет назад
Silvana Pacheco Thanks for your question. But I'm kind of confused as to what the purpose of your video is. Are you going for a job? Sorry, but you'll have to explain a little more.
@Silvanafitness
@Silvanafitness 9 лет назад
Carl Kwan thanks for the quick answer. Yes I was required to send a video teaching a PT class and aerobics class but i do have to introduce myself in it. Because part of the job is to deliver seminars as well
@CarlKwan
@CarlKwan 9 лет назад
Silvana Pacheco Thanks for the clarification. I would say that what you have to do is no different than any other presentation. However, the difference is you'll have multiple chances to get it right since it's a video. The videos here will certainly help, but if you're making a video make sure you have good audio. Use a lavalier style microphone. I'm going to bet that most of your competitors will have crappy sound. If your sound is good, your video and you will give a much better impression. Good luck!

I have got a presentation at uni in two weeks time in front of my colegues, when I have found out about this, I have said to my colegues that my english is not so good for that, do you thing that it can make an impact on the day of the presentation? thank you
@CarlKwan
@CarlKwan 8 лет назад
Thanks for your question. Although you may think your English will be an issue, it's still not a good idea to apologize for it. Everyone knows you are not a native English speaker. Focus less on the English and more on the content. Use words that are simpler and easier for you to pronounce. Also, be sure to practice. And watch this video about how to sound like a native English speaker when giving a presentation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UQhoPdPAZv0.html

_"Don't say: ''I have a cold"_ Seriously? This is just nonsense. If your voice is rough, or you have to blow your nose all the time; DEFINITELY say that you have a cold beforehand. Just do it with some charisma and/or enthusiasm, to let them know right away, that you might pause your presentation for a few seconds, to clear your throat or whatever. Remember: It's not so much *what* you say, but *how* you say something, that will have an impact on your audience. And nobody is going to think the company is bad, just because you are a little sick, as long as the presentation was insightful, informative, or whatever you we're intending it to be.
@harrysilver6898
@harrysilver6898 9 лет назад
I guess my rant was done a bit prematurely; after watching all of the video, it seems like all Mr. Kwan wanted to say was: 'Don't use excuses for your shortcomings'. Which I agree with. Demonizing specific sentences is pointless though.

I am trying to see the value of the video here. The poor english part is noteworthy, otherwise some good stuff here. Excuses do not mention. Better than that. Don't give any excuses at all. Duh! Be positive at all times, and factual about what you bring to the table. Oh, yeah, one other thing. What is your excuse for your echo in your audio. If you are professional, you know that your sound quality is key to the presentation as well. Sorry, in person, or in a video presentation, it should be top notch, and professional with no excuses. Thank you for your time.
