Thank you for that comprehensive review of the different kinds of flicker. I often use manual lenses, which reduces or eliminates brightness flicker, except for HG sequences. Contrast flicker is the one I hate the most!
Ah, so now I know what contrast flicker is. I'm still slightly confused about how it happens, though. Is it something to do with LR doing calculations that are not linear? I remember Gunther's advice for LRTimelapse adjustments mentions non-linear adjustments being a bad idea, and contrast is one of them.
4th: clouds across the sun (not nearby). If I can use a piece of software that will average out the brightness of each frame within a few frames this way or that, it would simply solve the strobing. I shoot sky and cloud time lapse with a mere weatherproof action cam (Olympus Stylus Tough) that goes straight to video, which actually does inherently avoid problems even expensive SLR would do in automatic, but clouds moving swiftly across the sun make unavoidably brighter or darker environmental frames because the whole area literally becomes bright or dark for real. Yes it's natural but people will act like it could have been post-produced and improved if I leave it flashing, and incorrect know it all's will think I filmed it wrong, etc. Whether is few-hundred dollar cheap 4k actiona cam or $4000 SLR this problem should be removeable in video mode. It still has frames, and all software should have to do is average out brightness for a few frames this way and/or that and it would fade in and out of natural brightness changes instead of strobing.
Emeric if you do use a 6stop ND filter do u keep it on even when its turning to night? I would assume your exposure needs to be somewhere around 8-10 sec if not more to bring out the lights of the building at night.
Train & More Trains No ND filters is not needed during the night, only during the day. This is useless at night since you already get very slow shutter.
Emeric's Timelapse ok. So do u pause your timelapse to remove the filter? Or maybe use a variable nd filter so that u can quickly change it back to clear?
Hey Emeric have another odd question. I was doing a simple day to night timelapse practice on my 6D. I had an interval set to 8 secs and was going for a max exp of 4 secs. From then on I was going to ramp my ISO until properly exposed at night and let it go. But what I noticed was that as soon as my target of 4 secs and attempted to begin ramping the ISO but couldnt. I believe it maybe due to the sd card speed in terms of writing the image back to the card. I saw the busy displayed and didnt give me enough time to adjust the ISO. I am currently using Extreme PRO 95MB/s. Does this mean I need to get a faster card? Thanks
@@EmericTimelapse I think, and still playing with it, Davinci Resolve has this. Might be an even easier solution then what is being done now? I don't know as I'm still figuring it out.
I love your videos and aspire to be sort of kind of like you. I’m trying to raise subscribers for my up coming RU-vid channel and hope to sometime in the future be just like you.
