I'm not anti-pitch correction, but I can't get on board with setting your pitch correction and forgetting it. Sometimes notes that are technically "out of tune" sound great in context. It makes far more sense to me to manually go in and edit any notes that sound off. You can make it sound far more natural that way. For me, Melodyne is a much better tool for this than Autotune.

My go to vocal compression is the Drawmer s73 plugin by Softube. It's not quite as diverse as others but I usually pair with a de-esser which gives me a crisp sound on singing and screaming.

We used the Howard Benson Vocal Multiplier and the HB Vocal Bundle in our latest release - never had our vocals sound so profesh with 25% of the time. We even used the multiplier on our intro guitars for some extra spice. SO COOL!

I love pro-C 2 just because I love fabfilter's interfaces lol. Gain Reduction is nice for quick and easy, and the built in compression in your Howard Benson Vocals is often used in my chains as well. Oftentimes I'll have multiple compressors from different brands on a single chain, whatever results in the sound I'm looking for.

I like to use the Firechild from tone King and then an 1176 to catch fast peakes. I sometimes drive the Firechild to get tube saturation. I like it

The vocals sounded autotuned both times though. Lol. Maybe it's my producer ear. Definitely doesn't sound natural but I do hear the difference. I prefer melodyne for subtle natural pitch correction.

Sorry guys, I like your plugins and usually find your videos very informative and well done. But in this case it is (for me) an exact guide to what I should not do if I want to have good sounding vocals. Leave this autotune stuff to the Justin Biebers of this world and let good music sound good and individual again.

@@RekusoXYZ Lol. Will be. Also, that in no way shape or form means my point is invalid. Audible autotune imo (meaning, "in my opinion") sounds bad. Are you a successful artist, rekusoxyz? Anyhow, way to sidestep content and simply belittle someone you don't even know. Moreover, as NF has posed, "What's your definition of 'success'?" It's not self-evident, unless you blindly follow the masses or whatever is popular at the moment.

It's not that simple. Disregarding autotune completely for singer songwriter or rock stuff is fine because those genres are inherently pitchy, but synth heavy music is often perfectly pitched so even a good natural vocal performance will sound sour. Like any effect it's another tool to be used, or not, depending on the whims of the producer :)

@@Krufs fair enough but I see it overused like mad these days and also used when not really needed (thereby impacting the tone and timbre of vox for no good reason other than "because we can")
