Hello and welcome back to the KenOhWee Channel and for today's episode I'll be comparing 4 Iron Man Mk.85 action figures from 2 amazing companies and I hope it'll help whoever's interested in knowing the 4 figures in depth.
I tried my very best to highlight every detail shown in the figure and if I happen to miss anything, I do apologise. There may be some points you may or may not agree and I completely respect that as at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference and both of these are great figures so you can't go wrong.
As mentioned in the video, I'll be taking a short break as I'll be having a surgery next week so I'll be taking the time to focus on my recovery and I'll be back as soon as I can to share my passion and love for toys and also making videos with all of you =)

Oh how I love these KenObwee figure comparison videos. This was an easy one tho. Mafex has better portions,details,sculpt and articulation. Much greater value seeing that you only need to by one Mafex Iron Man figure for a complete experience. And finally the unmasked Tony Stark head sculpts is leagues better than SHF. It’s a pretty spot on likeness to RDJ. You said it was a toss up but objectively speaking really it’s not even close. Another great video!

After I cut a little bit of the shoulder for movement and add super glue to it the shoulders are really stable and not a floppy anymore. After the fix the mafex one is truly a masterpiece

Not done watching the vid but if figuarts is more possible and has more articulation, I’d pick Z.D. 2.0 For display (I know it’s not there but I like the LED) and Figuarts for playing with and dynamic poses. I’ve seen this before I think but now I’m considering buying one fr

I have the 1st shf mark 85 ...and since I'm the kind of guy who puts it in a pose and keeps it in the display like that ...I'm happy with that one and after getting it from japan it costs me only 40$ with shipping and all ..so I'm more than happy

Take a look at the ZD Toys Ironmen. They're really great in my opinion especially for the price! I love the Mk 5 and Mk 3 of theirs.

I've seen them but curious about their articulation. Can they crunch though?

@@kenohwee Somewhat. They're similar to ML in that their crunch is poor. There is a swivel right under the chest but it's more like a back and forward mini crunch. This chest swivel does pull up though to give you more room for flying poses. Enough to get into some flying poses though. Their shoulders have some pull out like drop down hips in some ML's for pseudo butterfly joints. So I'd say not as good as the Modular comic Iron Man in articulation, but not terrible either. I have my mk 3 in his landing pose. Took a little effort but he got there.

well, i have the first SHF MK85 with Takara Tony upgrade parts with all the same accessories + Takara Tony's MK85 head sculpt. I also did buy the Mafex MK85. Between the two i'd still give the winner to Mafex. The main thing is the accuracy put the Mafex over the top of the SHF. I also have the re-issue mafex MK43 and the original Mk45 (which is a loose mess, but I tighten all the joints) and pretty much all the SHF Iron Mans except the Hot Rod that has released so far. SHFs are great, but my favorites are the three mafex if you asked me to choose. Now I have a dilemma to whether or not to sell the SHF Mk43,45 and 85 + Takara Tony stuff.

@@kenohwee I bought the Kiki joint tightener from ebay. i think it's just floor polish as it pretty much hardens, but doesn't glue. i've used different floor polish it smells and dry similar just not as tacky. just drip it into the joints and let it dry. If it gets loose after you pose around with it, just repeat the process. doesn't damaged the figure itself.

The comparison I’ve been waiting to see😃😃😃 I think Mafex definitely blows all three Figuarts figures outta the water in detail and accessories, since you don’t need to buy the same figure a number of times to get all the accessories like the Figuarts. But for me personally I think the red on the default non-damaged Figuarts MK85 is a bit better-looking and more accurate

S.h.figuarts Clean edition was made before the movie was released to you can't really blame them while the mafex was VERY late but had time for it , so it's an unfair accuracy battle

I agree with the clean edition, however though, it doesn't excuse Bandai from the other two releases. They had plenty of time to resculpt but they chose to reuse the old sculpt. Hence that's why i used the clean edition as a base comparison

Do the Fantascraft one, IMO comparing SHF with Mafex in this case is kinda pointless as the SHF is 3 years old and based on concept images But the Mafex has a serious shoulder issue, happened with plenty of people. It's always the same side as well

But figuarts had chances to update their design on the other figures but didn't unfortunately. Hence the comparison. I haven't heard about fantascraft I might check it out. Thanks for your suggestion! Yeah that shoulder guard is bad, but happened on both sides for me

The shoulder issue was a problem for me too at first. Easy fix is to just get some nail polish and just apply enough to thicken up where they peg in and it works wonders. They don’t fall off and they stay down and flush with the arm. Give it a try it will definitely improve the figure.

The Fantascraft Mark 85 Version 2 is a huge improvement on the Version 1. Much better sculpted shoulder pads and a light up refocuser for the back. I just got mine a few days after the Mafex version. For paint, the die-cast body and including the light up eyes, chest and the refocuser, the Fantascraft is better. The Mafex has the more accurate proportions, better articulation and more accessories. Minuses are the knees on my Fantascraft are very loose due to the figures weight and the materials on the Mafex are too weak.
