Hi! The 30/30 workout you mentioned is due to French exercise physiologist Veronique Billat, who wrote scientific papers validating them and which are available online. They are therefore known as Billat intervals... I'm wondering about other ways to raise FTP when you achieve a plateau like yours: 1. Altitude training. 2. Since cyclists are all obsessed about losing weight, no one ever mentions gaining weight while maintaining power to weight ratio.

Yea. I’ve never looked too much into elevation since it’s out of my reach but I’m definitely trying to gain some muscle mass this year as well. Good thoughts!

@@DrewDillmanChannel Have you read the book "Faster: The Obsession, Science and Luck Behind the World's Fastest Cyclists" by Michael Hutchinson, which is available as book or e-book? I believe it is quite relevant to this topic, as he reached an FTP plateau while having all the scientific information as well as natural talent. And he was literally only interested in increasing his FTP, since he was going after the hour record! One interesting point is that his VO2 Max was superior but he wasn't getting the results of cyclists scoring lower, so he discusses this in detail, along with all the other issues he faced.

This helps a lot thank you! One doubt im having is if i cant afford in my country a power meter but only a heartmonitor, can i suscribe for a couch still and be productive on the results?

My wife’s dad swam there and is in the hall of fame. Paul Karas. He’s now the assistant swim coach. Small world! My wife grew up right across the street and that’s still where her dad lives today.

Always enjoy your talks, will give me something to ponder on my 4 hr ride, which I am about to do. As a senior (63) who's only strength was sprinting, I can only say that if you want to improve your sprinting, you better get busy on it now. Because is really does diminish with age. 😀 But I found that to really make meaningful improvements in sprinting when a person is near their maximum potential, it may come at the cost of other attributes. And visa-versa. Buy you have to survive until the sprint starts. Looking forward to hear how you incorporate sprint training into FTP building for 2023. And good luck on the season!!

weights are the easiest way to get faster quick. riding the bike a little more or a little harder than last time is no where near as effective as adding a new stimulus that will grow muscle and strengthen joints and tendons. especially when you think you hit a plateau you gotta do shit different. on the other hand if you barely ride to begin with stick with work on the bike.

Hi Drew there's no VO2 max cross over between the sports , there's many studies to prove it , show me elite marathon runners who ride or swim zero, tour de France riders who run??? Zero

I never thought about OverUnder, seems deadly lool, can put it on my training routine? I have two races here in italy, one in may and one in june,and i have a poorly amount of time spent in Z5-Z6 etc... overunder could help, no? By the way keep working Drew, i really appreciate this video!

New to Fatbike racing. I did a over under 1 hour spin a couple of days before my last race and I feel that this is exactly the perfect training for a Fatbike race as it is so much more work to carry speed and to keep pushing late into a race when you feel like your dying.
