A frequent question I get: What's on the back of your work and how do your small art quilts hang on the wall? Answer: I'll show a few different ways to finish off the back of a small stitched art quilt and how I add a hanging mechanism. Sometimes a wood dowel and twine is the way to go and other times the finished artwork can be stitched onto heavy card for framing. Here I show how to enclose wire in the back as a hanger.
Starting at 2:48 I show step by step how I added wire to the a small stitched textile artwork so it can hang on a wall.
Working in slow stitch, my goal is to connect with the numinous aliveness of the world around us. I aim to invite a feeling of calm and a sense of peace.

Oh, that little enclosed wire triangle is SUCH a clever idea!!! All the methods you shared are great. I’m just beginning to explore slow stitching, and would love to combine both paper and fabric in some pieces-let the adventure begin! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise, and for your inspiration-I am all in!

Thank you! I know what you mean! I started out my using a sewing machine and combining paper and fabric. It’s so satisfying! That was my gateway into everything stitch. So many creative possibilities!

I just within the last two days found your channel and so happy I did. I have already subscribed to it. I am new to this slow stitching and I love it. I have made two projects and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. I would like to know what your preferred size of a project is and do you use felt to build on and also as a backing on each piece. I am building my stash of materials and am having fun doing so. I also love, love birds. Do you make your own appliqués. Not sure how well I would do with that, but willing to give it a go. I am watching all your videos to date. Lori

Hi Lori! I like to work small because I stitch so heavily and it allows me to get the effect I want. Most of the pieces in my videos are 4x4 inches but anything up to 6x6 is a good size to experiment without it being too big of a project. I use felt as a base, either wool or acrylic and sometimes thin quilting cotton batting. I mostly use cotton or broadcloth fabric for backing. Using recycled fabric or buying fat quarters is a great way to build a stash. I make my own bird templates by drawing a bird shape on card stock and cutting them out and saving them for future use. Glad you found my videos. Welcome!

My biggest struggle in slow stiching art is my fabric always frays. (and that just gets messy) I use cut up tee shirts to upcycle as well as some linen that obviously frays a lot (but i love linen lol) what fabrics do you use to prevent that? Or techniques ? (I am a newby to all things sewing and fabric!)

Some fabrics fray more than others for sure. I use cotton mostly which does fray. As long as it doesn’t fray too much it adds texture. T-shirts are a great idea to use. They might curl up but shouldn’t fray too much. You could iron on interfacing which stops most fraying but it also adds more thickness which may effect how the hand stitching feels. It’s a big topic! Maybe a future video idea!

@@peaceofpi-studio yes tee shirts definitely work better than linen. But I have many fabric scraps that are pretty that I'd like to use but unfortunately they fray Soo much. Thanks for the tips 😊
