I just bought and installed a CFCI which doesn't want to reset. Can I unscrew the CFCI so I can get to the wires and test them while they are live? Thanks!

Voltmeter or multimeter with contacts (could be used for outlets too) is one option

When you said "Make sure you don't touch the metal" explain what metal you are talking about??? That phrase went quick and metal was misunderstood since we see a white outlet?

The prongs of whatever you are using to test the voltage

The metal parts of the prongs. Don't touch them when the prongs are in the outlet.

You can't receptacle is different, tester is for 120V

When you teat the outlet, you use the black lead for the hot side and red for the neutral, but when you test the bare wires, you use the red lead for the hot wire. Which is it?

I set my multimeter according to how you had it at the beginning of the multimeter section, red in V[Omega]mA and black in COM
