Same here! We gotta go out east someday as well :) also you gotta do an algonquin trip in the future. Make sure it's in the fall though you won't regret it trust us!
Ha, love the lessons learned at the first portage. When I first saw Elena with the two packs on, I thought this is going to go well. Double carrying or leapfrogging is where it is at.
It was a mistake indeed.. That's what I loved about this trip though, as newbies we were constantly learning on the go and will be so much more equipped for our next adventure! Lesson number 1: only bring what you can carry in one go 😂
Haha I know it makes it great cause she can laugh at her own jokes, although I must admit she is really funny (don't tell her I admitted it 😂). But yeah thanks so much! Episode 2 is coming out Thursday :)
Your friend with the beard seems cool ;) Great video as always! Top quality all around! Should be the video to watch about first time portaging in Algonquin Park on RU-vid!
@@thehikingnomads159 Really hope to as well! Karam is from Canada and got family there, so we'll for sure be coming back lots. Also we have a winter camping trip filmed that needs to be edited :)
This was honestly amazing. I felt like I was watching a film. Your trip looks absolutely incredible, I would love to do something like this one day, it’s unreal!! Please post more :) xx
Wow Amelia thank you so much for this incredible comment :) We're so so happy that you loved this video and adventure, it makes all the hard work filming so worth it haha We are now posting weekly :) Chapter 2 is up already and chapter 3 is coming out tomorrow! So consider subscribing :) Thanks again!!
Totally agree with you! The beauty in doing something new in new places is something we both love so much! It's that discomfort that you get used to and learn to search for that makes it all so much more enjoyable. Part 2 and 3 are out now so consider subscribing for future episodes and let us know what you think!!
@@ride-paddle-repeat Thank you so much! We really appreciate you :) Yeah we really enjoyed sharing the real adventure and how we felt throughout. Just felt more natural. Also Elena just complains so much 😂😂😂 Just wait for part 4, that's where the real complaining comes in
Ahhh! Amazing video!! So beautiful. Props to you guys for deciding to do this and sticking with it 😄!! Where did Elena get her green and purple sweater? It is gorgeous on her!!
That honestly sounds like a great idea! Although it's a really big lake and not the most intimate, I think it has some really nice campsites and lots around to explore! Good luck with it :) - Karam
@@Karamintheworld Most of my Algonquin trips have involved tons of portages except for my Clash of the Seasons one. In the past I've also covered most of the larger Algonquin Lakes however I have not yet spent any time on Opeongo. It seems big enough to actually warrant the multiple day idea. Most of the time I love exploring the rivers.
@@NobleEndeavours123 Well I love the idea, seems like you're a very seasoned expert when it comes to Algonquin, not like us haha. The only canoed on the Petawawa and the Madawaska I believe (You can see it in our route map). But it definitely seems more interesting to be within the closed spaces, probably more activity around. What's the longest trip you've done into the park?
@@Karamintheworld You flatter me! :) My longest trip has been 15 days in Algonquin however I've done around 20 trips (need to count them sometime). A lot of my camping experience came from bicycle touring - 37 days riding around Lake Superior for example. Remember experience is all relative and depends a lot on what happens on any specific trip. I heard the average trip in Algonquin is 3 or 4 days now compared to months long 100 years ago. That means your one trip is equivalent to 6 modern day trips however you have the extra bonus of longer continuous duration which has it's own impact. I like your trips because you share the emotional rollercoaster which I personally think is a critical part of what makes the best trips the ones that we remember so vividly! Thank-you for sharing your experiences!
If you want an example of one trip that had a bit more pain and suffering. A buddy of mine, Bob, and I were supposed to spend 8 days in the park in a tandem canoe. The first day was beautiful and sunny. The next 6 rained continuously. On day seven we were on White trout lake. We left the park at access point 4, Rain Lake, that night, in the dark. We covered a huge distance and 10+ portages. It represents our biggest single day travel. Of course it also stuck in our mind so on our next trip we didn't plan for the shorter of days we should have..... grin - enter some learning and suffering!
Hey, using google maps isn’t very accurate and doesn’t properly show the terrain or lakes. You should download Canadian topos on the App Store where you can download any topo map in Canada. I’ve used it extensively and it’s definitely worth getting for longer trips with confusing terrain
wow this is the tip of the century! love this :) Thanks for the tip, we'll make sure to give this a go next time! For this trip a combo of google maps and Jeff's Map did the trick but we had to go back and forth haha
My wife gets irritated with my filming too. ;) But just wait til you can look back on this 3 years from now. Lot's of foreshadowing here in Part 1, looking forward to the rest!
I can honestly say that looking at these videos now, I am so so happy that we filmed everything! Incredible to be able to look back and remember it all so vividly 😍 BUT oh boy was it annoying at the time.
next time you get a leach make sure to use a piece of hair and slid it on your skin where the mouth is and it should come off. if you pull it off you risk getting an infection because it may barf into your body. i’ve been on may of these trips and i’ve had maybe 20 leaches lol
Absolutely zero experience haha. We had done camping before but never done any portaging before. We just spent a lot of time looking at what gear we'll need and food. So if you're thinking of doing something like this absolutely go for it!!
