Our 3yr old daugther riding on her own on her bike, to go to her uncle and aunt. I believe this is something extraordinary, only seen in the Netherlands at this age.
I found this. A short piece of an American article. It made me laugh. "Children ages 3 and 4 years are in a period of significant gross motor skills development. They learn to balance on one foot; walk on their tiptoes; and climb, hop and skip. Three-year-olds can pedal, use a handlebar and operate three-wheeled vehicles, such as tricycles, but they do not have the balance required to operate a bicycle with only two wheels" LMAO. She's obviously never been to The Netherlands.
@@robinvonken9975 They ARE riding an E-bike, not all but most of them. It is exactly this E-power that makes it possible to keep riding the bicycle with decreasing fysical power due to aging. It's a virtue that our elderly CAN die while bicycling, this is not possible in the USA.
In The Netherlands you see three year old cycle all over, but I'm sure it's typical Dutch. I read an American article once that claimed kids can start riding bikes without sidewheels at the age of six, because only then they have the balance for it. I asked them if they've ever been to the Netherlands....
Americans having giving up their freedoms long, long a go. They are not interested in the politics that runs their country. Look at the buffoon they voted into their administration.
The popular vote isn't bound to states. The popular vote is a majority vote as in the majority of the votes all across the states. She had almost three milion more people voting for her than the ... that's now in office. So saying they didn't vote for her is nothing more than an 'alternative fact'.
It is off topic but it's definitely not nonsense. But no worry the discussion was already over as reindeerkid just ignores the facts and substitutes his own reality where getting less votes than you opponent means people voted for you. You cannot have a discussion with people like that.
So many very important life-lessons she has learned already. Spacial awareness. Cause and effect of her actions. Many adults in the US don't have that. Too much TV and computers (2 dimensional). They walk in front of cars without realizing that it's dangerous. They spend too much money without realizing the effect it will have on their lives.
En ik ben één keer, heel schlemielig gevallen en zit nu al vijf jaar thuis. Bij vallen heb je mazzel nodig. Als je nooit valt, heb je zeker geen helm nodig.
At that age even the dutch know its important to wear helmet! they are growing up, and balance can be day to day shaky! My son had helmet and from 13 onward he didn't have too.
Taerial Bullshit, most kids i see don't wear helmets ! Not to mention that in the past nobody ever did. I'm 53 started biking at age 4, fell a gazillion times, no problem !!
I have seen that they do it the same way in the rest of the Netherlands, so not only in Holland. When shall many Dutch stop calling their own country Holland...? They should know better!
A helmet is a good idea on city streets . It is just borrowing an idea from nature . Helmets look and function the same as turtle shells. They make sense for certain types of head injury . I agree they would not protect against a car's tire rolling over ones leg but your noggin holds your brain . The other thing if its too hot with helmet on take it off immediately then cycle to water quickly .
For little kids up to 6-7-8 years old, maybe they are a good idea. Maybe. But research shows that wearing a helmet for teenagers and adults is actually quite bad. First it is annoying, uncomfortable, warm, difficult to carry with you at all times, ... and thus discourages cycling. It is far easier to just hop on your bike and go without a helmet. But most importantly, it gives a false sense of security. People who wear helmets take more risks and cycle faster and more dangerously. Plus a helmet only protects against head injury, which is VERY rare even when riding a bike. You are FAR more likely to hurt an arm, hand, leg, foot,... So wearing pads on arm and legs would be far more usefull than a helmet. And even then really bad injuries are rare, and those are mostly due to accidents with cars. And since biking infra in the netherlands is so good, these bad accidents are also very rare. You are as likely to hurt your head in the netherlands when cycling as you are when taking a shower. So for that reason alone it is silly to wear a helmet. If that is the standard than all pedestrians should wear helmets, all people in bathrooms, all people on escalators,... Helmets actually cause more harm than they do good. And there's really good research from the dutch and the nordic countries to back this claim up.
Never wore a helmet. I fell off my bike dozens of times, never fell on my head. Almost never happens, we Dutch learn how to fall from bikes at a young age.
She also took on the responsibility of taking her doll with her! But mom and dad can do a lot better: no lights on their bikes and no reflector at mom's bike (which is legally required)...
