Three-year old Nina Awupireh, whose parents are parishioners of the Holy Family Catholic Church at Mataheko, Accra, has been diagnosed with a hole-in-heart disease which needs financial assistance for immediate surgery.
A letter signed by Dr. Kow Entsua- Mensah on behalf of Dr. Lawrence A. Sereboe, Director of the NCTC to the Parish Priest of Homily Family Parish, stated that “the above name (Nina Awupireh) patient was referred from the Department of Child Health to the National Cardiothoracic Centre and she was incidentally found to have a heart murmur.”
According to the letter, clinical evaluation and examination confirmed of a hole-in heart condition known as VENTRCULAR SEPTAL DEFECT(VSD) and PULMONARY STENOSIS (SP). Further management of her condition will involve an open heart surgery.
The $9,000 (about GHc50,000) needed, according to the letter from NCTC, “covers the cost of further investigations, surgery, anaesthesia, intensive care and boarding for a maximum of two weeks.”
According to the parents, she was diagnosed in 2018 after she was sent to the Children’s hospital at Derby Avenue before they were referred to the Korle-Bu Children’s Block before they were referred again to the Cardiothoracic Centre.
The parents of Little Nina who cannot raise the $9,000 are appealing through Global Newswatch Media and Communications LTD., managers of newswatchgh.com (a faith-based news portal) to government, NGOs, Church Societies and philanthropists and Ghanaians in general for financial assistance to save their daughter, who has a promising future.
