I lived on Okinawa for 12 years and I know I never saw it all. . .and my wife was an Okinawan tour guide. We visited castle sites that none of my friends even knew existed. We visited several of the other islands of the Ryukyu Islands, like Ishigaki, Taketomi and Iriomote, there was always somewhere to go and something to see. . .if you knew where to look.

It’s been so long since I moved from Okinawa, almost 6 years. Those 3 and a half years I was there had such a huge impact on me, and to this day I still wonder from time to time if I’ll ever have a chance to go back again.

I miss Okinawa for the same reasons you said why you love in there… I felt alive and connected to nature. I love oki ❤

I lived in Okinawa until I was 10 in the late 70's into the 80's. I loved living there and even though I was young I swear my life has been better because of my time spent there. What you said about the Ocean actually brought beautiful tears to my eyes. I learned to swim in the ocean and was and am still head over feet in love with the ocean. Currently I live in landlocked Montana in the US. Even though Montana is beautiful and she possesses magic all her own, I daily miss the ocean and the rhythm of the sea. Tell the ocean that James misses her. I remember our school had a walkathon that begun in Okinawa City and ended at Moon Beach. Moon Beach was not developed at this time and after arriving, and coming in first place, I sat my tired, 7 year old bones down in the surf to cool off and feel the restorative properties of the ocean soothe my body. One of my favorite and most precious memories. Thanks for your video. May Okinawa continue to change and make better your life.

James, I’ll tell the ocean you miss her. Your words brought me tears. I was in Okinawa 7 years ago for only one day, and fell in love. I’ve longed to go back every day. Im finally going back this summer, for two weeks! I understand what you mean about being in a landlocked place. I’m in Calgary. The mountains of Montana and Alberta are beautiful. But nothing compares to Okinawa.

I'm glad you're back. I was stationed at Camp Foster Aug 74 - Sep 75. Love the island and people. Wish I had done more touring the island.

#5 is so true. I love how different it is than California. If there is grass it needs to be mown and edged (in Ca) but here it’s like they let it be a natural little field with long grass waving in the wind. It gives me the same feeling that you described. 😁

Hi Matt, Great vid! I had that same feeling of feeling good in living in Japan and really being appreciative when I was stationed over there. I loved the Okinawa vibes and hopefully one day I can go back.

That's great! It won't be up until March 1st, but if you're in Okinawa before then message me on Instagram. I would love to show you around before that as a tour test.

I would argue about the aspiring to be better here in Okinawa. I know so many people who are constantly reading, going to classes, getting extra certificates at their workplaces. There are also so many small business owners. Unfortunately, the salary is just not high enough and there is a ceiling to how "high" you can go. Many people work so hard just to stay in the same place if you will. That being said, I love your video! Also congrats on your tour company! I'm pretty passionate about Okinawa and I'd love to get involved if you're ever looking to expand or want to collaborate on something!

Born and lived there till I was 27 years old and I agree with you. Most people need two salaries to make a decent living. Just like in most developed countries if you grow up with TWO supportive working parents, you have a chance to go to University BUT Okinawan's population is predominately Single-Parent house hold without mandatory child support. Most single parents are on Survival MODE not they don't have ambition. AND when we compare ourselves to our great grand and grandparents who survived all the horrendous situations through WWII and at refugee camps away from the battle- we feel we should be happy with what we have- just do our best with what we have, "Nankurunaisa- Nuchidu-takara" .

Hi. I’m currently living in Tokyo for 4 years and considering a move to Miyako island for a year. I have been there recently for a week and was fascinated by the stunning nature and really didn't wanted to leave again😂. Also have been to Ishigaki before with pretty much the same feeling. I was just wondering if in the past 3 years you missed anything from the bigger city life just as shopping malls, cinemas etc. And if you ever got bored of the sea? A bit of a concern from me is that after a few weeks I’ll get used to the stunning nature there and and life might get a bit boring?

Could a retired couple live in Okinawa on $2000/month ? Funny, we are currently traveling and will be in Nicaragua for a year. My wife was born here and I too am a little dependent on her and her perfect Spanish. Downsides to Okinawa ? Seems pretty nice…., Thx !

Do you find that you're eating healthier in Okinawa than in the States?
@MutekiMatt
@MutekiMatt Год назад
I think so. Most foods here aren’t processed very much, so even if you eat “unhealthy” it’s still a bit better I think.

You can't walk 20 minutes to a local shop, to buy a can of pop? What is wrong with you, do you have a disability? Our local shop is 15/20 minutes away, depending on Rocco 🐾, and that is close Maybe get up a little earlier, enjoy a sunrise 🌅 every now and again, and you'll be able to fit that WHOLE TWENTY MINUTES into your life, and maybe learn the bloody language, gaijin Good luck to you, Sunshine 🌅 x
