It’s def in a boom (or starting on the downhill side of that curve) but that diminishes the good whiskey out there because this stuff is just so tasty 😆😆🥃
You’re killing it as always. I’ve been relatively disconnected from the whiskey world for about a year now. The hype and d-baggedness has taken most of the fun out of it so I’ve pretty much stepped away from buying any more bottles. I haven’t bought a bottle in a long time so I’m kinda blanking out on prices relative to your list. I was at a restaurant the other night - the bar had the whole Buffalo Trace line up including this year’s Antique collection. This is rare in my area so I decided to break my self-imposed embargo and try the Wm Larue Weller. $110 for a pour. Nothing but harsh barrel for me so my personal opinion is to strike it from your list. Paying that much for a pour of a highly allocated bottle and being severely disappointed has also reinforced my view on what I used to love - it’s a lot of hype - I wouldn’t pay retail for that bottle. Still watching your channel but stepping away from whiskey has been nice. Stay well and continued success with your life.
I got the same Russell's Rickhouse email...also went online and it was available. Then thought about the $300, and didn't pull the trigger. I'm sure it'll be amazing, but I think I'll survive. I was able to pickup a Russell's 13 in a similar fashion last year, and it was pretty decent, but...$300.
In unheard of news, had a random liquor store worker sell me a Bomberger and Blood Oath for Msrp. He then asked for a tip. I gave him the only 10 spot I had on me. Tried again a while later, no dice and he seemed upset. Dang it.
13th Colony Double Oak is supposed to be crazy special. Also the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C923 is pretty fantastic as well, but if I got it, it's somewhat attainable. I've seen several reviews of this year's birthday bourbon and haven't seen a positive one yet.
Good for you, stand up to the ridiculous raise in prices. Its the only way they will come back down to earth. The more people keep paying these prices the higher they're going to get
100% agree with the concept of diminishing returns. We have bottles that we gladly paid $200 for and love... and that subsequently lost over and over in blind battles to whiskeys that are sub-$100. And I mean, there are three Matt Madness round wins between the two of us, which means we're spitting truth bombs.
I don't know man, you were kind of heavy on the Buffalo Trace products there. I have fought the FOMO on BT, I'd rather have some of the lower priced, probably better, bottles out there.
I really wanted to hear you count out $300 in ones, and I consider your professional palate diminished by roughly 17.5%. Keep up the good... but not excellent work.
Go to a state that has state ran liquor stores. I live in Idaho and found a bottle of STAGG for $50. Not even lying, I almost shit myself. I find lots of hard to find bourbon for MSRP or less.
As someone who likes whiskey and has my go too's and also likes to try other brands that I've never heard of as well at the end of the day if a bottle that I might think is special if it's over 120 bucks I'm not getting it. All this 230 to 500 or more for some whiskey just isn't worth it, especially on the secondary market.
Yeah it’s getting old feeling like you pulled up to the WORST used car lot in human history every time you look for a decent but way over hyped whiskey.
Blind all the whiskeys .. And then you'll see the qualitative differences. The prices will continue to go up as long as we are out here pretending any bourbon is worth 400 a bottle. More about the bottle and where youre going to display it than the juice at that price point.
I was so super pumped to get the alert for Wild Turkey Generations, as I always miss out. Logged in, still in stock, holy cow here we go! $450. Unreal.
Thanks to a certain group in our society and the times of covid to increase these prices. Now everyone is talking about how do we lower the prices ? We our paying for the label on the bottles and not the juice inside.
For those near northern KY, The Party Source had bottles of Gem of Kentucky from Barrel #73 in stock a few days ago for $195. They also had Knob Creek 18 for $175, Bookers 2023-03, and Woodford Triple Sonoma for $160.
I had my luckiest day ever a couple of days ago. I scored three BT bottles at MSRP that I have tasted but never owned before: Blanton's Gold, ETL, and EHT SB. Go figure!
1000% with you on the King of Kentucky. I actually came across one last year (and in California no less!) they wanted... ...wait for it... . ...$2,200 for it. I was ready to pay up to $400, not knowing what I was coming, but fuuuuuuuuuck me that one hurt.
I got a Parker's Heritage 10 yr rye pretty close to MSRP, tastes pretty good. I'd love to get a Michters Toasted Rye. I've had an Angel's Envy cask strength rye before...tasted like a neon pink extra sprinkles My Little Pony cupcake, had to give it away
Total Wine has dropped Stagg releases straight to shelf about every other month in my area. Snagged one for $52 the same day I picked up a JD Single Malt Special Release for $70... The single malt is the better product of the two, btw. That JD Single Malt might be the best American Single Malt I've tried yet. I'll blaspheme even further - it's better than 90% of irish single malts 14 years or younger
Love your list. I have two bottles on list. Stagg $55 + tax and Four Roses 135 anniversary $197+tax. I will have to do lotteries for the others. Keep up the great reviews.
Oh this will grind your gears, some are hit or miss with ECBP but our local distributor is holding back ECBP C923 and making it allocated “because of all the good reviews it’s getting.” 😡 WTH! I’ve corroborated this story with multiple different people and stores in the area and next state over.
Snagged the Remus VII, the Gatsby is available near me at $250, would love a Russell’s 13. I love the 2XO line so I’ll probably try to get a Gem of Kentucky if I find it. Never saw any of the Harden’s Creeks in the wild. Definitely want to try the OF 1924. I still have yet to see a Stagg in the wild myself. Tried Michters 10yr at their bar it was good.
I'm also a fan of the 2XO line up as well. I came across the 2XO Gem of Kentucky, and snatched it up at the $200 price point. People don't realize this is a single barrel offering; compared to the previous blends. It's fantastic for my taste profile! I was at another store and found the same barrel # on the shelf and decided to pass though. A couple of days later I found a different barrel #, and now I have bottles from barrels #'s 70 and 71. No regrets! These are fantastic! It's a very complex experience with the high rye mash bill.
IF they are selling the bottles, WHY are they not on any shelf, any where?!? I want the BTAC, Stagg, and E.H. Taylor. Just like you, I'm willing to pay msrp...
I got into bourbon last year and my parents went to get me a bottle for Christmas. Just happened to be the day they got 6 bottles of GTS. Got me one for 99 bucks. Hahaha I couldn’t believe it.
Bummer wish I would’ve known this, recently saw a bottle of the Angels CS bourbon, no one has the box. Also picked up a KC18 and could’ve grabbed another. I saw an ad or something about buying a bundle of all three Hardins Creeks at 375ml for like 150. I’m kicking myself for not getting it.
Pretty good list. Most of the top 10 would get flipped asap. I would for sure keep KoK, GTS, PVW15, and OFPC. But the rest would probably pay for the rest of the bottles I buy all year long.
In Alberta, Canada I have an approximate chance of 0% in seeing any of these bottles on a shelf except for OF 1924. If it's like the other OF Whiskey Row products it should be available.
Great video, I'm always tempted by the Remus Gatsby but have never had. One piece of advice I would give about the Russell's Single Rick CNF - don't try it near RR13 - in fact, make sure your RR13 isn't even in the same room! I thought it was a little boring unfortunately. And also, BTAC is showing up in my area at $179/ea not sure if that's an official srp increase...
Hey Matt do you actually have biceps, is that Into the AM shirt making your arms bigger than they actually are. or is it both? Either way, keep it going.
Great wish list Matt! I’m a year into my journey and I have been blessed with a guy that sold me (2)RR13yr 115.00 (2)RR Rickhouse 220.00 KC 18yr batch 1 115.00 KC 18yr batch 2 120.00 HC Clermont 185.00 My son was gifted a Pappy 15yr for a wedding gift and I’ve had a couple of pours, it’s really nice! Cheers!
Thankful to have tried all the Pappys’, 15 was my fav…. But my fav dram of all time was a 2020 KOK -1000%, it was a wow moment. fav bottle i own is my 2022 Four Roses 🌹 LE…
I like this Matt. This is the real whiskey/bourbon enthusiast energy. While Sazerac is sending whiskeytube people BTAC the rest of us are stuck looking at shelves and then getting frustrated and burnt out on prices and the under the table bs.
