In this video, I show the different ways that a microcontroller can be provided input. One of these ways is ADC (Analog to Digital Conversion) where the microcontroller receives a range of voltages.
Equipment that I use to make videos:
Canon EOS Rebel: amzn.to/2rJSeh0
Macro Lens: amzn.to/2qaSKmK
Microphone: amzn.to/2qO2RB4
3D Mouse to rotate/zoom/move the object (Must have for CAD!!!): amzn.to/2ruFnSn
The drafting pencil I use on these videos: amzn.to/2qioYg2
The cheap oscilloscope that I use (because it's cheap and will work all of the projects in these tutorials): amzn.to/2rSHnBa
A better oscilloscope and the one I would recommend: amzn.to/2qizK5M
The brand of multimeter that I use and the one I recommend: amzn.to/2qicUez

I just wanted to say thank you for your videos! Due to a competition drawing near I had to program a micro controller for CANBus, ADC conversions, and output a PWM signal to IGBTs within two weeks with absolutely no prior knowledge about microcontrollers. Your videos allowed me to understand all the basics and actually program the PIC32 I was using with help from its data sheet.

Thanks. Yes, it's more to provide another way to get folks to understand what seems complex and esoteric.

Thank you so much for taking the time and effor! Well next time I'll have to pay more attention when choosing the microcontroller. I thaught more memory was the only difference. Oh well. I was going to do some measurement with thermistors and photo resistors...

there can be no better way to teach micro controllers better than this and to the point! It was entertaining and very informative~! Salute to you sir! thanks for the lesson!^_^

I can't add links to the comments, but I found a sumary datasheet after googling "ATMEGA162". You can also check on the atmel site.

After looking at the datasheet, the controller does not seem to have ADC. If it is a specific analog value you need to test, you can use the analog comparator, otherwise, you may need to find another chip, unfortunately.

I have a question so here goes: I have an animatronic show. Similar to Chuck E cheese. it is programmed in analog and converted to digital. It is 24 v dc. What i want to know is can the RA Gray system somehow to hacked to be able to find or program individual character movements. For example, if i wanted to program new shows, would there be any way to do it without having the original computer they used back in 1982? (MC 10) The left channel plays the music and the right channel goes through the control system and reads the tones. I have actually listened to the tones through the speakers and it kinda sounds like the old telephone line data modems. So my question ultimately is can the control system be hacked?? Can the current show tones be checked to see what the amplitude is? Thanks!

@Patrick Hood-Daniel: What's the exact difference of using an inductor, capacitor or resistor (10k) for decreasing the noise on IO pins and when do you choose which ? What exactly do you mean with "critical situations where safety is a concern" ? (example ?) Thanks in advance !

i am using atmega32, same setup 5v, 100nf 2 cap and i use 4 leds and provide reading range, like up to 128 v first led etc. however my leds are dancing and it is not responding to measurement from potentio meter
@shivanshu3
@shivanshu3 11 лет назад
Don't you need a current limiting resistor for the potentiometer? When you turn the pot all the way down, wouldn't it short the power supply?

HI, great video. i have one quick question, when you talked about whether the adc is either in 8 bit mode or 10 bit mode, you program the microcontroller depending what mode you want the adc to be in? as for the different bit modes, what are the differences between the two for example is the 10 bit more better than the 8 bit and in what cases would you use either one?!

I've downloaded a datasheet as well, but can't seem to find any ADC on it. The datasheet is called "ATmega162-16PU" and "Pin Configurations Figure 1. Pinout ATmega162" doesn't show any ADC. Or is it named something else? Ow and I'd like to thank you for you're extremely fast response not to mention the videos you make. It's incredible how much work and effort you put into them and then let people use it for free. All I've learned about MCUs I can thank to you...so... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I looked at the ATMega32 datasheet and on p223 and it says to put an ext cap on the AREF pin for Ref Selection = AVCC (01). ???

Hi! I baught an ATMEGA162 16PU (they didn't have the mega32) and was wondering if it was possible to do ACD with my chip version (I haven't found a certain answer on the web). I can't find it in the datasheet either. Only "Analog Comparator"

Hey. Great video. Where can I find one of those pens?
@jdsweet3657

does the ADC take AC or DC? I'm wondering because the pins are working when I touch the ADC pins.

No that will put the pin on the chip at 0 not the power supply. The pot will always have the 5 Volts across it , only the pin is moving from 5V to 0V with the wiper.

I never use adc.. recently i make pcb with atmega32 and i just want to read battery voltage by A0 pin.. but chip goes very hot.... Can you help me please..?
@PatrickHoodDaniel
@PatrickHoodDaniel 3 года назад
I don't believe you can use ADC to determine the voltage at another power source. At least, I haven't tried before.
