I have used over 30 Arduinos on my railway for lighting using neopixels, for movement of models, for timing, to operate Faller kits and more. There are several OLED screens as well as a speedometer using infra red sensors and LCD.

Give you an A+ for creativity!! I've also been experimenting with Arduinos (and ATTiny 85's) for my yet unbuilt HO steel mill layout which I hope to start in a year or two. Neopixels are especially good at simulating the hot things in a steel mill like molten iron & steel, hot coke, etc.

Thanks very much Donald. It is a bit embarrassing looking back at this video how messy things are 😁. The close ups really show how unfinished things are. Good luck with your steel mill. It sounds like a big project!

@@richardray6827 At the moment, have a 4'x8' plywood layout with Bachmann HO E-Z track for project testing ... it was easy to setup. Biggest advance so far was setting up DCC++EX on Arduino Mega as a command station to run layout. It has USB connection to PC running JMRI. That took a while to learn ... but it works very well.
@richardray6827
@richardray6827 2 года назад
@@donaldkormos5529 that JMRI took me a year I reckon, but I am a slow learner. Very hard to get my head around. I now have BD20 track detectors and can follow my trains around by watching the monitor. In hindsight, I would not have spent the time or money. It is good, but shivers it was costly and hard to learn.

@@MagnorailOz thanks very much. It took a ludicrous amount of time to design and 3d print 😂. It was all trial and error to get the size right for the oleds. I must have printed it between 12 and 20 times!! Any normal person would give up. 🤪 Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hope you pressed like! 😀

Very nicely and comprehensively done. I am very impressed. What I would now like to see is the detail and code of how you achieved it all. I have recently started using arduino on my n gauge layout. A wise move.

Thanks Melville, is there a particular sketch, (code) you are interested in?

@@richardray6827 Hi Richard, I think that the whole animation setup in the playground is fantastic and I would love to have some pointers on how you actually acheived some of these magnificent animations. The child on the swing is one of the most realistic and jerk free ones I have seen. I work in N gauge so things would be a lott more fiddly for me. I also adore some of your lighted sign but would struggle to find anything small enough to be appropriate for N gauge.
@richardray6827
@richardray6827 Год назад
@@melkitson thank you. The swing is relatively easy. A 360 ‘servo’ moves a magnet along an actuator. There is another magnet under the seat. It must be much harder doing things in n scale.

Those wind turbines are totally unrealistic. For a start, they are actually turning!
@richardray6827
@richardray6827 Месяц назад
@@thomasm1964 I am really not sure what you mean. We have hundreds of wind turbines powering our state and they are always turning, unless maintenance is being done. They travel at 240 k/m an hour at the outer part of the blade!

@@richardray6827 There are lots of the bloody things in the UK, particularly in the north. When my partner and I are out and about they don't seem to work in calm air (not enough wind) or anything above a gentle breeze (too much wind). To add insult to injury when the operators turn thdm off in windy conditions because of the Sanger of them catching fire when thd blade brakes fail we - the taxpayers- have to compensate the operators for their failure to perform to contract. Wind turbines - here at least - have never performed anywhere *close* to their hypothetical output levels.
@richardray6827
@richardray6827 Месяц назад
@@thomasm1964 that is really disappointing. I do not think they are a great alternative, average 10 bird kills a year, use a lot of concrete and steel to build, shortish life span. Solar might be our best bet. Have to do something. Cjeers from Australia.
