Robert, thank you for remembering the Mount Zion Church graveyard. I wonder if perhaps the church burned down and was rebuilt at the other location because that was a better place for settlement. This is just so tragic. So many graves, but perhaps the families buried their loved ones at this original graveyard even though the worshipping was done somewhere else.
Hi Robert I can see what you mean about all the rocks covering all the areas it would be hard to farm there's a lot of stones in Blaenavon not far frome where I live they are called devil heap of stones you can't farm the land enjoyed watching your videos always Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧
It's so important for people not to be forgotten. They all had a story thanks for taking the time to acknowledge them. I really like the shows with you and the other Robert and Cody. You both are historically knowledgeable and make the show homey which is why I watch it. Please make more shows with the other Robert.
I belive you are correct Robert. The people were far out in the woods in a place not easily accessible by transportation in those years. The land was not really suitable for farming or raising animals. I think people just found other places to live that was easier and more hospitable. Thank you, Robert
I have a close friend of mine who is head of the local historical commission, museum and Texas Historical Commission. For as long as I can remember he's been called on to find unmarked graves in cemeteries and graveyards. He witches them just like people do for water sites
I love these old videos that you find the old cemeteries like that on the 77 and all of my grandparents was born in the 1800s and I have found three of their graves which is in Kentucky and looking around at all of the old grays like that is unreal it's just I guess you have feeling of peace that you in the place of people that age that lived on that land thank you
Amazing history lesson. Thank you Robert. I cannot imagine the amount of strength, willpower and determination it must have taken to build a homestead out of the wilderness. One would have to be either absolutely fearless or, at least half bat-crap crazy to go up against all of the unknown dangers waiting for you but even worse, the known dangers. Tough, tough people. It's a miracle this country grew as quickly as it did. Blows my mind. 💥🤯
Robert, you are so knowledgeable and intuitive regarding these homesites that I’m amazed and enjoy learning about them. I’ve never lived there but feel that these people worked so hard to make a life for their families and you have brought so much meaning to their life and their death. I hope someday you write a book about your searches.
Poor people had no option but to make the best they could of what they had. I live in the Arkansas Ozarks and the old homesteads are everywhere. Folks were tough and used to making do. It was a rough life as exhibited by the cemeteries with lots of children's and young adult graves.
Robert, I am very interested in this cemetery. I remember reading about it several years ago when I first started researching my father’s family. My dad was the youngest son of Golden and Mamie Watkins. Golden is buried in the Centerville Cemetery, along with his mother, Matilda Watkins.
Robert, your work in doing what you can to preserve and document with video the history of your county, is amazing and one that I appreciate so much. Thank you for all your work and in sharing these videos.
It is very sad that people left the area, what was once home and left these places behind. Forced by several reasons. There are so many leaves and rocks it appears to be a difficult place to walk around in. You have to be a scout to find these places. I think you were a scout on the frontier in a previous life. It will be interesting to hear what Dan has to share. 👍👍😊
Robert your knowledge is amazing! Thankyou for keeping the history alive and documented. Indeed it felt sad lonely place but it also had some beauty too.
Thank you for sharing Robert and finding a wonderful cemetery to help Family's to find their loved ones and please be safe out there and God bless you and your family and friends
Great job, Robert ! So fascinating. I have a question, though. Was it the rain coming down in part 1 video that made some of the trees burnt looking, or was there possibility a forest fire in the recent past ?
Love the history and adventure. On the side of the road, at the end of the video, the part of the land that had the indentation, it looks to me it might have been a small river at one time.. Keep em' comin'.. Ty.
I can't help but wonder if something bad happened to a number of the folks who are buried in unmarked graves, and that is why you get that sad and lonely feeling walking out through the area. Like a bad sickness or even a Native American attack where several settlers might have died. I was raised in Northern Arkansas and now live in S.W. Missouri. Those scattered piles of rock look so familiar. This is a part of the edge of the old Ozark mountains, and digging a hole for anything can be very tedious. Right below the top of the ground there are so many rocks!
I always feel sad when I am in graveyards. I don't care if they died at 100 it is still sad. Of course, sometimes it is worst. When I found a grave in woods near where we lived 45 years ago. The young woman was 23 and she died in 1852, Her tombstone said her and her stillborn child. That made me extra sad since I was 21 myself at the time.

To think how happy they were to win that property only to find out you could do nothing with it. The disappointment that what you had dreamed of will never come to pass. How sad. Thank You.
Robert, does the church still exist where you believe that the people may have moved in 1837? If so would it possibly have a listing of the people who were buried prior 1837 on the land that was given them by John?
There's an abandoned settlement near Ottawa, Canada here where European settlers were scammed into thinking they were being offered deep lush topsoil for wheat. But the land is like your Mount Zion property. Tragic stories of deceit everywhere.
We spent many years in Ontario near the Rideau Chain of Lakes. The farmland there is in the Canadian Shield which is endless rock which covers so much of the land. What soil is there is so rich that farms seem to do well, and dairy and beef cattle are all over the area.
Robert, have you guys run across caged or mortsafe graves? These were probably more common in cemeteries where the people were fairly affluent since these were put on a new grave in addition to a headstone. These helped to deter the graverobbers who dug up and sold fresh corpses to medical schools back in the 1700-1800's. Just wondering.
Would they let you metal detect in that old road bed? Seems to me that with the road being so rough, stuff would have fallen off the wagons hundreds of yeas ago.
When I see these cemeteries covered in leaves I wish I could come with my weed whacker and my blower which consumes leaves into a container. Eventually more of these cemeteries will be buried under leaves and brush.
During your videoing you were being watched. I feel some form of being or large cryptic animal watching your every move. You are not wanted there. Beware, some type of forest entity does not belong. Has come through portal gateway. Not friendly at all. Is afraid of you. I see in my mind a man with a dog type body. This creature is hunting for food. Beware of the forest people. Take care and stay safe 🌹🌞🌈🙏🕊🇺🇸
I live on the Eastern Shore of Virgina. Accomack and Northampton counties are loaded with long forgotten and abandon gravesites. You may walk in the woods and stumble upon a grave site dating from the 1600's.
and a lot of the early Georgians migrated from Virgnia. My father's family did. Most of his ancestry lines were Virginia to North Carolina to Georgia to Alabama and finally to Mississippi.
