I have three tips: I marked my blankets and bedspread with a marker to show where the top and bottom center mark is and where the top and bottom corner edges are. This saves me from walking around and around the bed trying to get them straight on the bed. They are straight immediately the first time. Because the top sheet is folded over the blanket, the marks at the top don't show, and because the bedspread is over the foot of the blanket the marks don't show. And because the quilt has a pattern, the little black dots I put at the head and foot don't show. This has been such a time saver! I also used the clear plastic boxes spinach, mushrooms, and cookies come in to help me organize my drawers! I love those cookie trays! Perfect for holding toothbrush and paste, deodorant, etc. Why spend more money when I have already paid for that container and brot it into my house? Try it! I also saved the cardboard tubes from paper towels and fold plastic bags into balls and stuff them into the tubes. I have two tubes in the car and pull out or blow out the plastic bags and hang them over the stick shift so I can put trash in there. Keeps my car clean! I also put those balled-up plastic bags in the foot of all my waste baskets and pull one out to use to line the waste basket as needed. The replacement is right there!
I have a time-saving tip: Buy sheets with a stripe or directional pattern on them (I like damask stripe), and you won't have to spend five minutes wrestling with the sheets trying to figure out which end goes where when you're putting them back on after washing.
I saw somewhere that the tag to the fitted sheet always goes in the bottom right corner (if you're standing at the foot of the bed.) It works for all of mine.
Excellent tips! I use so many of these. Another great one is choosing your outfits in advance so you're not flinging things around on the morning. A game-changer for me.
@@HowToGYST Yes, I follow you, Clutterbug and Minimal Mum, and sometimes one or two others, really helps me to get motivated House still needs a LOT of work!
I barely iron anymore: tip from my mum: if there are any shirts in my wash load, I set the spinning speed to low (400 rpm), take out the shirts that would normally require ironing, hand them up on hangers, and spin the rest of the laundry at 800 rpm. The shirts that are still quite wet when hung up, dry without wrinkles thanks to this trick.
I just stopped caring about being wrinkly. I hang everything up on hangers and they dry fine and I can hang them right up in the closet. I just embrace the creased linen look and basically only iron if I’m going to a wedding or when I’m sewing to get nice seams. I’m a pretty casual person and I wear hospital scrubs at work so it’s never a problem.
Thanks. I have gotten so many tips from you Cas that I feel I should give something back beyond my views, likes and comments. Love, love, love your channel! Don't stop being you. You. Are. AWESOME!!
Thanks for the tips! I’m a stay at home and homeschooling mom of 3, soon to be 4. Curbside grocery pickup has saved my sanity and hours and hours of time dragging kids through the store. I also cook a whole, bulk package of meat at a time and freeze what I’m not using for that meal. Also, if I’m chopping a vegetable, I try to chop extra for meals I know I’ll be making later that week.
Especially your cleaning shortcuts have helped me immensely. Thank you for giving me permission to run the dishwasher daily, every when it's not full. As a former cheapskate, I needed to hear that this would make my life better, and it did!
And remember - If it makes you feel better or is helpful, you can always throw things in the dishwasher such as cotton hats that normally go through the laundry, toothbrushes, plastic bins and containers (Of course use caution if you’re trying to heat dry), And other things around the house that could use a quick rinse off with soap.
You were totally realistic about how many minutes you save…. Not like other YT videos that claim insane amounts of time . Thanks for always being real with us! Good luck house 🏡 hunting!
Great tips! I was an early adopter of the Roomba. Yes, it was an investment but that same machine still works great after more than 10 years. I recently upgraded to a vacuum/mop and it's even better. I highly recommend upgrading to a robot mop.
I’ve had a Bissell Crosswave (a vac & mop) for 4 yrs for my hardwood floors. It’s wonderful & does a great job…..BUT….it has to be completely cleaned out. Hair, grass bits, etc are trapped in 7 different places. PLUS the whole thing has to be disassembled, cleaned out & filter has to dry in sunshine for 24 hours EACH TIME!!! ……..JUST SAYING……
I got the cheap Eufy robot and I love it. It just bounces around with no plan *but* I don't have to deal with wireless connectivity or the internet of things.
@@Lasairfiona I just got this one, too! I've only tried to use it once (just tried a little while ago and apparently forgot to charge it. Oops.) but I'm quite excited! It definitely seems a little aimless but honestly I didn't want to have our vacuum connected to wifi so I'm ok with the aimless! LOL
I am so happy to have found you about a week or 2 ago. You don’t know how much you’ve impacted me in this short time. I am already implementing what I’m learning from you. Thank you!
These are great hacks! I even remember some of them from your older videos! However there are 2 that I won't do: voice command everything, and steaming clothes. I get better and faster results ironing than steaming, I can usually leave my ironing board set up in guest room, and it takes just as much time to plug in an iron (and set up the board) as it does to fill and set up a steamer. I am averse to devices that do voice command, simply because it means they are always listening. All it takes is the wrong people to be in power and suddenly your privacy is nonexistent. We still use smart plugs because they're great for scheduling things like Christmas lights.
My fear with the cooker liners is their long term effect on health. When plastic is heated to such high temperatures, its composite chemicals may leach into the food. So you end up with health problems just to save a few minutes.
These could be for specific recipes or certain situations. Leftover food traces from when you scrubbed for half an hour and did your best but traces are still there can't be good for you, either. Do your homework and find what works for you. Overcooking/burning food is so bad for you, for example. Cas is a VERY busy human. I see why she wants to save time wherever possible.
Late to the conversation, but slow cookers are best used on a lower heat for longer. However I wouldn't like the plastic waste. I find if I put the Croc pot straight into soak ( once I have plated up) it is a breeze to clean.
Hi, I don't think ive ever ever commented but watching from Bordeaux FRANCE and you are such a cheerleader! I am so in love with the idea of a behind the scenes, TRUE real how to edit videos, how to plan content with hubby and two ladies helping you!! That would be so good! MERCI
The problem with slow cooker liners, parchment paper, and paper plates is not that they are lazy, they are so wasteful! Why make more trash? They make silicone baking mats you can use instead of parchment paper. They are easy to clean and you don't have to scrub the pan. Now, do I never use these single-use items, no. For recipes I know are particularly stubborn to clean, I'll use a slow cooker liner. If I'm broiling, my silicone mats can't be used at that temperature, so I'll use parchment paper. Using these things every time you cook, or recommending people have a paper plate night once a week creates so much extra trash over time.
I butter my crock pot before I put the ingredients into it. Likewise, I butter my Pyrex pans before putting the food into them, too. Okay, you got me, I use margarine, not butter, I can't afford butter. Forgive the use of a term my grandmothers used and I never let go of. But food is SO much easier to wash off the crock or the pans that way! I don't have a dishwasher. So I fill the pans with hot soapy water and put them to the side; by the time I've washed the plates, cups/glasses, and silverware, the pans are ready to wash with half the effort. Yes, I love the ease of paper plates and plastic silverware, foil pans for food prep, oh boy!! But those are for when my kids all come home once a month for family dinner, so I can spend my time enjoying them instead of cleaning up. My way won't be right for everybody, but it is right for me 😊 If it helps you, so much the better.
Great video. I think the meal planning binder not only saves more than 15 every day not staring at the fridge with no options. It saves so much frustration, anger and resentment everyday, feeling inadequate, hungry and a loser when kids are hungry and I have nothing prepared. What's that worth, a cajillion dollars,,,priceless!
I got my first robovac (Eufy) last month and it's awesome. For a place that was getting vacuumed and dusted as much as mine was, the robovac still found crumbs and cat fur I'd missed. Definitely needed to do a big declutter before anything like that was possibnle, and it's SO been worth it!
Oh my God I love the meal planning binder ideal my biggest chore every week is just deciding which meals to make and I'm always forgetting about meals that my family love what a great 💡 idea
Love the meal planning binder! I'm always looking for new recipes, so how do you factor those in? And do you have a video specific to your meal binder setup? Thanks for all your great advice❤
Dang I have been doing almost all this for years. I needed a channel lol. I even had the binder. Now my kids are grown and gone and I don't have to do all this as much. Love the channel.
Cass, that Revlon dryer brush is AWESOME! I dumpster dive and found 5 brand new ones! I also found 3 Roombas that work perfectly. I buy everything online too. You are my inspiration and motivation. Between you and Swedish Death Cleaning, I have an organized home where I can find everything and am happy I regifted so much. xoxo

Cas, thank you for always providing us with useful tips. Can you tell us where you found your laundry hampers? I stopped sorting too, and I use those color grabber sheets to prevent colors from bleeding onto the lighter colored clothes.
Honestly I remember the days of super stress with sweeping the floors. I felt like that was the only thing I was doing constantly. Cue the robot vac and now I feel like I have time and freedom! I recommend everyone get their own personal sweeper! 😃 Also good luck on the house search! It is so so hard. We are on the hunt right now too!
I've been watching your fun and useful videos for years, Cas, and it's fantastic to see you achieving your dreams 💖. You really are such an amazing and inspiring woman! Thank you so much for all your help from the UK! xx
I am a new subscriber and I just have to say that I love your videos! They really just make me feel so inspired to get a few important things done today. They have already helped me start moving out of the mindset that I have to do it ALL and do it in a certain way. Starting to leave behind all of the guilt I was carrying around because I wasn't doing all the things, all the time is so freeing. Thank you!
Those elastic laces! I'm buying those for my Mom who has Alzheimer's. I have bought her slip on shoes but she keeps defaulting back to her favorite New Balance sneakers and is having problems with the laces. I am definitely getting those!
I love your tips and tricks for decluttering, organizing, etc. I wish you could help me in person. My house is a hot mess. It doesn't look like it on the surface but I struggle some days to work on letting go of the clutter. But your videos help me so much with motivation, and getting it done.
Hi Cas!!! I just set my credit cards up for the minimum payment. I can always pay more, but it is saving me time! If I ever need a second wind, or motivation, I watch one of your videos. I can't thank you enough! 💜 Wishing you all the best with your home search! It's exciting! How nice that your home is totally organized, making moving easier! 💜
Now that you have gotten use to the AUTO pay, I recommend changing the setting to pay the new balance in FULL instead of the minimum payment so you never accidentally pay fees.
Love all tips. Love you. One comment. Please consider not recommending crock pot bags as reducing plastic use is one way to minimize impact to our already ailing planet. It’s worth the clean up! Hugs to you and all that you do!
@@catherine6977 YES!!! I kind of ranted on poor Cas in the comments... with her appeal and following, people really listen to her, and I agree, it was upsetting to hear such a harmful tip (and the paper plates too).
@@razorbladelemonade Plastic is non renewable from petrochemicals and is resource heavy and polluting in its manufacturing and won't biodegrade in landfill sites. Water usually comes from the sky in the form of rain. Many of us have rainwater tanks to supply our water and greywater systems to divert that used water onto our gardens especially fruit trees.
@@razorbladelemonade No comparison. Water is actually totally renewable -- not to say it should be wasted. As an example, the manufacture process for a single paper plate will use more water than a lifetime of washing its non-disposable counterpart.
Can I just say, I recently found your channel. I love it. You are helpful, down to earth and give advice that is truly helpful. You don't ignore the realities that we all have and that things don't have to do be perfect. Thanks so much for your content!
Our version of paper plate night, are 'wog-plates' (it's not derogatory, just a phrase). These are the boxes that coffee pods, or biscuits or pizza, etc come in, ripped on half to make 2 plates. Saves washing up.
Me too! When I turned 60 I stopped coloring my hair and hired a good hair stylist (my niece, lol). She cuts it short and layered. On most days I just wash my hair and fluff with my fingers as it dries. I save so much time, money, and aggravation.
I really appreciate a lot of these tips and tricks, but I do wonder how much of the mental load your partner shares in, and how you divvied up the housework/chores if you are both working fulltime jobs? I have been trying to get better at housekeeping and decluttering, and I just keep noticing that in general a lot of the content about decluttering is specifically aimed at women, and hardly ever touches upon the (usually male) partner doing their share. They either get chores delegated to them, or are discussed as a clueless bystander, keeping the mental load firmly with one person in the relationship. This isn’t a specific criticism of this channel because life and relationships are full of intricacies that the casual viewer isn’t always privy to. It’s just something I noticed only a small handful of cleaning/organising/decluttering channels pay attention to in their overall content, and it makes me wonder if we/women are aware of that, and what we could do to come to a more balanced share of both the mental and physical parts of managing a household.
I think it’s because we women are usually the ones that get anxiety by seeing messes. In my house, we share chores with my hubby… and I feel like he does more things than I do, but he doesn’t get stressed by a messy room, I do. Unfortunately, I do get stressed by it, but I have a hard time doing something about it 😩. If something does bother him, he takes care of it right away 🤷🏼♀️
@@danyvorphal It's my husband who gets mess anxiety. He can clean and organize more efficiently than me. He used to do it himself as a bachelor but now I do it since I'm unemployed. He does everything outside the house though ( mowing the lawn, taking care of the chickens, pruning fruit trees, etc)
Love the tip about laundry. We do the same and I realized it was much easier. We have 3 daughters, so sorting between similar clothes wasn't fun. We decided they would each have their own hamper, and voila! For our groceries, we use an app called BRING! You can click off the item once you picked it up at the grocery. My husband or whoever you share the app with can add to the list. It's fantastic! I don't know how shopping online saves you time. I tried online groceries and it took me a little over an hour (ok, maybe the 2nd time it's faster?), and anything else, I always have to look for items I don't really need to get to the free shipping (which I avoid since decluttering) - or I get overwhelmed by the amount of choice and can't decide which item is the best.
Amazon filled a huge need that we didn’t know we had. As a working person, I just didn’t have the time to go around to many different bricks and mortar shops, and didn’t want to spend my limited time off doing that. Couldn’t live without it now, especially in the pandemic years. It’s not ethically all bad, it brings many small manufacturers from all over the world into the global marketplace. I have bought many wonderful things there, like hand-carved marble items and even my perfect new mattress!
I love the elastic shoelaces. I wash by individuals, BUT can’t wash darks with lights. It may save you time but it it ruins your clothing in the long run.
I felt like that too and as a result have decluttered almost all my light clothes! Seemed the best trade for me (especially as I was wearing the darker clothes more often).
I have also gotten rid of nearly everything that would be considered a 'light' except for some socks. Which are the invisible socks, so I don't even care if they get weird colored. As a single person doing just my laundry, I can do just one load every ten or so days when I run out of workout clothes
Hello fresh has changed my life! I really hate to cook. And shop. And meal plan. (My poor family) I have 2 teenagers at home and a husband who can eat an obnoxious amount of food. So when I get my box I do a Walmart order to add extra ingredients (that are on the recipe) to bulk up the meals, like green peppers, onions, cauliflower, etc. just pick up my order and done. Everyone loves the recipes and I don’t have to think (stress) about it. The portions are fine for me so if you have a “normal” family 🤪 no extra is needed. And thanks for all your content. It gives me some motivation when I have none.
Fantastic video. Realistic hacks to save time. it really does add up. I will be putting a lot of your tips into action. I also have an Amazon Echo. I use it to play music while working , and to also set up reminders. It has greatly helped me get the important things done. That gentle ping followed by the reminder always gets my attention and then gets me moving.
Some great tips Cas....but the Smart tech is not for me....too much control out of my tiny hands! And as for Amazon....I used to use them a lot until I realised how much they have monopolised online shopping at the expense of independent physical and online retailers, many of whom were forced to close for ever in 2020 or 2021. So I have decreased my shopping at Amazon drastically and don’t miss it! Bond villain, ha ha!
I'm 100% with you on no linen clothes! I really like wool and natural fibers, but I will not buy things that get super wrinkly or are hard to maintain.
Only thing that worked for us was ever since the kids got old enough, we each do our own laundry. I do still sort, but I have small stackable hampers so I sort as I take them off and throw them in. The kids and hubs prefer one hamper each and they do their own so it works.
I love that your video has so many practical tips that are easy to implement. 10 tips every week are taken and used almost immediately. A little more environmentally conscious would be great addition. Things like paper plates are a monster land filler and sorry, but the teacher in me says that shoe laces are a thing kids need. Too many visual training skills there..
@@jackiefields1607 Karen here, yes, mental illness, physical problems need help. Arthritis only allows me to use light Corelle dishes and paper plates.
I didn't say to not teach kids to tie, but that elastic shoelaces are a time saver and are safer as they won't come untied and trip our precious little ones. :) Also, I'm not sure what paper plates you're buying, but there are eco friendly options available. www.amazon.com/utensils-Biodegradable-Disposable-Dinnerware-Compostable/dp/B082MZFGT7/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3K9XST20XLFS1&keywords=eco+friendly+paper+plates&qid=1645419594&sprefix=eco+friendly+paper%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySUpDUkVOM0tPUjhQJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjQ1Nzk0NzdRS1dSOTJaUlcwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyOTkxODUzM0E5T0RCT1lDUFpSJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
We live in a spit-level home - yep, three floors. I have purchased Roombas needing repair on FaceBook Marketplace and fixed them and we now have one on each level of our house. Ours are named after TV maids - Hazel, Florence and Rosie. We also have Mr. French, our Roomba mop. What a time saver!
I love the time saving tips. My only concern is the slow cooker liners. Are there recyclable options since they are a throw away item. I'm all for saving time but not at the expense of the environment.
OH, I was so triggered by that, and the disposable plates and dustwand tops... all very poor ideas, since 'convenience' is what got us into this environmental mess to begin with. There are much better choices for all those tips that won't create trash. (The crock pot liner was new to me, and shocking.... I can't believe that's even a thing).
I just commented the same thing. If you set a timer I bet it takes no longer than two minutes to wash the pot. Two minutes I bet you’d spend scrolling the phone anyway.
Instead of an all out pad, I just immediately add anything we are out of to my walmart pickup cart. Even if it's only 6 things, I am at the Walmart for pickup at least once a week. No extra steps.
I've just found Silicone baking sheets, they come in a pack of different sizes and a 2-second wipe is all they need and can be rolled up for storage. Better than baking paper for the environment too 🌍🥰 happy house hunting 🏡
Technology is brilliant but please dont forget that these machines can overheat. Had a neighbours Alexa catch fire yesterday... Luckily no one was hurt. Your decluttering videos have helped me to get my spareroom back.
Wow! Queen Clutterbug needs a new house! That's awesome!! Thank you for all the great tips ,and thank you and the team for all your hard work! Happy Valentine's Day!
Cas, sometimes I think we were separated at birth or something 😂 The first 3 things you mentioned, I already do and use the same beautiful smelling Dry Shampoo 😁 (Batiste is the only brand I use) All my makeup in organiser and who doesn’t need a comfy grey cardigan right! 😃 x
I don't know how it is in Canada, but in our area of the United States (Minnesota), the majority of the houses go on the market in spring and summer. That way people can move into a district as school is ending or before the new year begins. So it could be just the time of year for you. Or it could be that you are cheap. :)
Thank you for those cool hacks, I have written down 11 that I will do my best to implement. Please consider stop using the plastic liners for cooking. Plastics release chemicals, specially at higher temperatures. This chemicals not only produce greenhouse gases but also chemicals that are known to be hormonal disruptors. The studies in the last one are still on-going but it is a risk that you are taking.
I'm about to blow your mind. Method pink grapefruit (can't vouch for the other scents as I haven't tried them) is also streak free on glass. It's my favorite one shot wonder.
Thanks for the thoughts, we have four bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a basin outside the toilet. One is an ensuite in master bedroom, the second has a shower, bath and basin. Then seperate toilet and basin. This may be an alternative. Good luck.
Omg, I’m excite . New house yeah. Cas buy what you need , don’t be cheap on this one remember the value will climb, is an investment that will grow, and along with what you do. I think a separate space is good like a real office space, a large container is also a new thing people are using to put on their land.
Lol I’ve never sorted my family’s clothes by person. It just gets all thrown in a load! No time for that since we have to separate the cleans when we fold.
I use Google notes to menu plan and the out of milk app for grocery shopping. I am notorious for leaving the paper list at home. I have a dyson hand vacuum with numerous attachments so I can clean and dust multiple surfaces in 1 cleaning session with 1 machine. Best investment ever. I love the spray mop. I just recently had to get a new one but it makes the chore of mopping so much easier.
Hi Cas, Can you do a video teaching us how to set up the lights inside/outside to go on/off using an Alexa ... sounds AMAZiNG, especially with Christmas coming. Thanks.. your videos are my new addiction.
I changed to all white bedding and towels, so now they can go in any bedroom, bathroom or the kitchen (towels), it saves me time. They can also be bleached, just in case.
I love your decluttering advice I’m also an Amazon Prime member I’ve been rewatching your videos trying to find the Amazon link for stackable storage bins for bedroom pillows and blanket If you have any idea of what I’m talking about please send link Thank you so much!
I enjoyed this video. Plan to Eat is an app like your meal planning binder, but even more time saving. You can add all your favorite recipes and lots more quickly, drag and drop them onto the menu then build your grocery list from there. You can easily scale recipes. I have added a weekly menu that includes things like which kids has dish duty each day and “recipes” for things to buy every week. I can add things with Siri. When I go shopping, I just check things off and my list gets shorter and shorter. Best of all is that all my family members have the app so they can add things, stop at the store for me, and cook dinner since they have the recipes. I could go on and on.
That hot brush is NO JOKE esp in winter up north! I started using one of YOUR tips years ago to just put the stainless steel pots and Tupperware and pans in the dishwasher. Everything except bamboo and cast iron go in there now, and it saves me time and keeps my kitchen clean. It may not be "the proper way", but I don't mind cooking bc cleanup is easier!
I really wish you would put out a series of videos for a single person owning their own home. Who works at 4:00 a.m. to sometimes 5:00 p.m. who has to do everything for themselves. Because honestly I'm overwhelmed. I have lupus and I have to work a lot I work 5 days a week and on my off days I try to put all my doctor's appointments on one day but it doesn't always work. Sometimes I just have to cancel my appointments that week because I'm just too tired. Not only that during my covid recovery I was so stressed out from calling out of work it just made me more exhausted it is 9:09 p.m. right now and I need to be to work for 4:00 a.m. and I have indigestion and I'm not feeling good still. I did a load of laundry tonight made supper with leftovers and threw a load in the dishwasher. But I still have so much to do. So tell me how can I organize a home that is so cluttered when I work such long days and I'm so tired. It wouldn't matter if I lived in an apartment or a condo. Please tell me I'm not being sarcastic I'm begging you with all my heart and all my soul.
I do not wear make up and I do not use hair styling products or hair styling tools, I wash my hair at night and I let it air dry. This saves me a lot of time and money.
Am i the only one who is shocked how thoughtless US Americans and Canadians waste ressources just to save a couple of minutes throughout the week?! There are some usefull tips but please consider the environment! And by the way: There seems to be a really strong dry cleaning lobby in north america…. you can wash cashmere and linen in the machine. You just have to use the right program an hang to dry.
You can use reusable silicone liners for the slow cookers and there's no environmental issue with paper plates if you take the time to purchase the right ones: www.amazon.com/utensils-Biodegradable-Disposable-Dinnerware-Compostable/dp/B082MZFGT7/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=3K9XST20XLFS1&keywords=eco+friendly+paper+plates&qid=1645419594&sprefix=eco+friendly+paper%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySUpDUkVOM0tPUjhQJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjQ1Nzk0NzdRS1dSOTJaUlcwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyOTkxODUzM0E5T0RCT1lDUFpSJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Nobody goes to the dry cleaners anymore, I don’t even see them. Instead of trash talking us, you could also offer advice etc if you have a better way! I’m aware that things are done differently in the US than the rest of the world but give us a break, this is the way we were raised unfortunately, but I think we’re learning! Instead of putting us down, kindly show us a better way 😊

I guess Cass never saw that scary movie from the 60's where all of the appliances big and small unplugged themselves and scooted menacingly toward the homeowners, ha!
