I'm from Northern Canada, Northern Ontario as well, our town was surrounded by black bears and not one of them chased or harmed us, we had one black bear enter a reserve close by and it was chased out. I've had one run away simply because I stomped my foot down, I don't know what kind of black bears you are encountering but for the most part they leave you be. There is a higher chance of you getting mugged, stabbed, struck by lightning then there is you getting killed by a black bear. The only real justification for killing these things is if there is an overpopulation problem. Statistics don't lie, simply go research. I would Camp weekly down in North Bay during my college days and that was the time I encountered a bear about 50 ft away, I stopped my foot and it simply ran off. Black bears aren't all that big so they aren't looking to pick a fight with humans.

Not true shooting from the back angling toward the heart is one of the most deadly shot passing through the liver lung heart. They don’t go far.

Minimum lbs is 40 lbs here in Manitoba

Realistically 30lbs at 10 yards easily has the potential to kill a bear, but your dicing with it, only because if it hits a bone lets say in the leg or rib cage, then you mightnt have enough punch to effectivly get through it and cause fatal damage.. Worst case the bear runs off badly injured but takes hours or maybe even days to die.. Theres too many ways it could go wrong.. Take the crossbow used here as a good example.. Theres so much power behind that arrow, that a placed shot is definately going to down those bears in a hurry..Theres no bones stopping that.. Even if by some miracle chance it did, the impact would probably shatter the bone into a hundred pieces, killing him anyways in a hurry.. Theres no substitute for energy.. No pont in messing with somthing you know you mightnt kill.. Ethics being number one here !!

@@jimanders9971 not possible to spot and stock here the rugged terrine tick swamp bush you could go a year without ever seeing a bear. That what people against baiting don’t understand. And hunting big bears over a bait is not easy there not dum there a lot of time and work that goes into harvesting a trophy bear. That why you need to try it then only then you will have respect for the animal. You have no idea what it take.

If you gonna hunt bears..don't bait them & hide in a tree..get on the ground & hunt them !

You can bait them, it's just are you willing to go out there every week to fill up the bait to keep them coming to your spot

Baiting offers several significant advantages. Observing relaxed animals at close range allows the hunter to select a mature boar and avoid taking sows and younger bears. Time observing the bears allows the hunter to calm and make a better shot. The close range also promotes better shot placement which means quicker kills. Add to that the high degree of effort to maintain a bait and you end up with a hunter who has proven his commitment to humane, selective harvest. Pretty honorable if you ask me.

You people are sick. What is the game, your just gun fking mad. Carma would see you eaten by a bear. I hunt, but you give hunters a bad name.

Avoiding the shoulder blade is imperative for archery bear, it stops all but the very heaviest bow/arrow set ups. That is why many prefer the quartering away shot. With a well placed shot the bear is done in 10 seconds and tracking is pretty apparent by the torn up ground as they make their mad scramble.

@@SheepdogsHeart 100%. I experienced this firsthand this past May. A bear presented a shot opportunity to me quartering away at 22 yards and while I didn’t get full pass through, it expired less than 30 yards away. Heard 6-8 moans soon after shooting him. Unfortunately, one of my friends hit one square in the shoulder which shielded the arrow from all the vitals. Unrecoverable. Interesting enough, another friend tucked an arrow too tight against the arm pit, got full pass through, and was still not able to recover the bear.…for anyone reading this, when they tell you to aim 4 inches back from the arm pit they’re not kidding!

⁠@@kchak88completely agree….what may look like a bad shot is actually perfect for bears… there anatomy is different from all other typical big game, vitals sit higher and a little farther back. So what would look like a bad shot on a whitetail is perfect for bears and visa versa..
