Finally on our fifth year hunting big Brown Trout on Arkansas' White River, a 30 incher found the bottom of the net. Last cast of the last hour of the last day on the river. On an articulated streamer that I tied. That's a walk off home run. The fish spit up three rainbow trout during the fight which shortened the fight considerably. Still fun though.

Can you use rainbows for bait? lol! I catch my share of trout in SE Minnesota ... but I got to get down there. I got a cousin near there and he told me about the trout fishing. I just lately looked into it...holy cow! Also wanna go hit that Reelfoot lake near the Mississippi for those slabs they got :) Great Video Man!

Thanks for watching and the comment. Definitely get down there. I used to live in Oklahoma and fished a lot in the Ozarks. There are wild naturally reproducing giants in those rivers. They don't come easy though. I hooked and lost a fish was at minimum 20 pounds in 2011. Fish of a lifetime - still haunts me. Fish 20-25 inches are common. But it took me 6 years to get anywhere close to a fish in the class of that 2011 fish.

No You can not use any game fish for bait.. But you can use minnows and sculpin which both work for Brownzillas

Great fish. I hope he survived all the time out of the water and the flop to the ground. I think you played with it too long!

Hey Jim. I’m glad you are concerned for the fish. I share your concern. That hold up was slow motion %25 speed. So the fish was only out of the water for about 10 seconds. I feel OK about that. I don’t like the drop either but he caught me totally off guard. It happens. He swam off strong. My only regret is that I did not let him rest longer. It was getting dark and we had to go. I wanted to make sure he swam off. The whole problem with that fish was that he was post spawn and he threw up three 10 inch rainbows during the fight. If you watch close you can see one come out and the tail of another hanging out. That kind of took the spunk right out of him. That’s why I wanted to see him swim off.

@@MadDogOutdoors look closely ..looks like it has something white right at the tip of its mouth or it was recently hooked and theres some damage..it comes right at your fish and turns around fast..

Thanks for watching Titan. Tip for finding these guys on a long featureless bank: Look for small isolated groups of stocker rainbows feeding on the surface. He was chowing on them. He barfed up about three during the fight. I think that's what you are seeing.

I was told when trout get over 18 inches they hardly eat bugs and eat alnost exculsively other fish. Edit, oh was that a streamer? There are definately a lot of big trout caught on small flies or spinners though

Generally true especially for Brown Trout. Depends upon the fishery though. My home river used to be the San Juan in New Mexico during the glory years (1980s & 1990s). The fish fed constantly on small bugs. Heavy bodied fish up to 22" on #20 midge imitations are common there. I have caught rainbows there up to 30" on tiny midge and nymph patterns.

@@MadDogOutdoors rainbows are less pisciverous so they eat bugs more than brown trout so that makes sense

@MadDogOutdoors

Thanks Austin. And thanks for watching all the way to the gag reel :). I think you are right right around 8. He was just touching 30 inches which should have put him at 10 pounds. But he was post spawn and not very heavy bodied. Also I saw him spit up at least 3 rainbows during the fight. You can see that on the video if you look close. That probably dropped his weight at least a pound and a half and took the fight out of him which was too bad.

MadDogOutdoors All head! You are welcome sir. Bet he's put on a few pounds since then! Yeah I seen the bows he upchucked but why would that take the fight out of him?
@MadDogOutdoors
@MadDogOutdoors 6 лет назад
Yeah. The way he was pounding down the bows, he probably got heavy fast. Hopefully he is spawning right now. I just figure he couldn't be at full strength while burping up his dinner.
@sowbug2000

What time in the video did he spit the bows?
