I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the 10 pound bag of chicken from Walmart, but the chicken pieces come out to $.67 a pound. It’s such a great deal. Great video.
Cottage cheese put in a blender/food processor is a much better substitute for sour cream, imo, taste wise. Also, utilize thrift stores for appliances if a bread maker is not in your house. I see them often (and grabbed a great one for $6!) This way, I can easily make bread or pizza dough for pennies (pizza dough takes 90 min and can be made ahead and put in the fridge for a day or two.) It isn’t hard to make from scratch with no bread maker, but the bread maker is fast and easy…just add the ingredients and press “go” and it done in the time given. Jewish dishes utilize chicken fat often, the same way Southern and Mexican dishes use lard. It’s delicious, and a “free” extra from boiling your own broth. Full of taste and inexpensive, plus uses things that may otherwise be wasted. Same from making a pot roast. The fat adds flavor, and all of our bodies need fat to digest and absorb nutrients effectively (if you have specific dr restrictions, of course follow those) but fat is not the enemy of food. Also, shredding your own cheese from blocks is less expensive, and it melts better and makes sauces better because pre-shredded cheese has corn starch (or similar) in it to keep the shreds from sticking. Corn starch is a great thickener for gravies…and it keeps the cheese from melting smoothly, and instead it holds it’s shape. The blocks are always cheaper and last a long time in the fridge (they taste better, too!)
I absolutely love all those tips!! Those are great! Thank you so much for sharing! I’m going to head to my nearest thrift store this week and see if I can find any bread makers 😄
The prices are much higher in San Francisco. I might print out the grocery list and see what this would cost buying the cheapest versions I can find locally. I'm not quibbling - this meal plan would still be really thrifty here, just a different economic. scale.
I love cooking a lot of chicken ahead of time and I also reserve the skin and bones for broth. I have to admit that I threw away my chicken fat after removing it from the refrigerated broth and I will never do that again lol. This was very good video and great ideas! Keep them coming. I really enjoy your channel. Have a great new week 🌻
Thank you so much! I definitely will! 😊 I used to throw away the chicken fat too until someone mentioned I could use it like this! Now I’ll definitely be saving it from now on!
When I ate meat I used chicken fat in place of butter in cooking. It is so delicious. You knocked it out of the park this video. Every single meal looks absolutely delicious.
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I can’t believe I hadn’t used chicken fat before. I won’t have to use butter for awhile if I just save all the chicken fat! It’s a total game changer!
Love cooking with chicken fat! It’s the best. I do a similar casserole to the chicken noodle one-just use tuna instead of chicken. I haven’t tried using cottage cheese in meals yet. I know it’s on trend. Gotta try it! Lower calorie and higher protein sounds like a winning combo.
Yes!! That’s the casserole I used for inspiration! One of these days, I want to include that classic tuna noodle casserole in a meal plan. I love it 😋 The cottage cheese makes things surprisingly cheesy and flavorful! I was hesitant at first but once I tried it, I was amazed! I think I’ll be incorporating it more often now!
You did fabulous! All looks good too! i am plant based but love these videos. had a few o fthem in my life where I had to do three meals a day that filled bellies ad nutritional. I brought nothing premade. All from scratch. Peace!
It should be here at this link on my blog 😄 I also have a link to my blog in my LinkTree wholeandhappyliving.com/2023/08/06/30-meals-for-35-a-budget-friendly-meal-plan/
Looks great. You made alot of great food. Im confused about the "drippings" you used to make the broth. You get drippings when you roast meat in the oven and collect the fat. The juice in the instant pot is just broth. When you made your broth all you did was water down the broth you already had. The food still looked good.
Yes, it was a bit different than just collecting the drippings from roasting but since it was just a cup of water, it felt odd calling it broth 😅 I used more of it with the water than I would have with drippings from roasting. I probably should have used the word broth with this one.
I have to try that cheese lasagna, thank you for that one! Great video, Subscribed! So glad i'm not the only one grabbing bowls too small for the recipe. 🤣🤣🤣 I always do that when making bread dough and end up with the counter looking like a hot mess!
I lost 100 pounds on weight watchers and one of the foods I made was pizza! I would mix equal parts gluten free flour and plain unsweetened greek yogurt with 1 egg to make the dough. (You can use regular flour, I’m allergic) The sauce you made is super nice! I used to just use canned tomato sauce and season it on the pizza haha!
I really enjoy your budget meals. You use ingredients that are not fancy and that are easy to find. Please do more .. oh and can we use beef fat in the same way you use chicken fat?? That would save so much money.
Thank you so much! I’ll definitely be doing more soon 😊 As far as beef fat goes, if you make it in a similar way by boiling fat from brisket trimmings and skimming the fat, you could definitely use it the same way! I believe it’s called Tallow!
I totally understand! When I was researching my title for these types of videos, I noticed that many budget meal planners use the term “meals” to describe portions. I wanted to be sure my content had a relevant title so I went with that. It was odd to me at first too 😅
If you don’t want the chunks of cottage cheese in your pasta, just blend it for a few seconds.. It resembles whipped cream cheese when blended and easy to use in different recipes.. Love your grocery hauls and meal ideas.
So delicious and very tasty and yummy and healthy and unique recipe 😋 😊 best wishes to you 😊 God bless you ❤ 😋 you are my RU-vid family 👪 member ❤ all the best 😋 😊 good evening 🙏
Where were u when my boys were teenagers!? Great old school dishes with new school convience - canned/ boxed from the store. I will be using your meals for the clients where i work. Liked, sub and shared with my 3 sons. (They 33,29 and 24 actually cook at their respective homes 🎉)
Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 I really enjoy watching you shop at Aldi and being amazed at how cheap grocery prices are in the US. For comparison the cheapest bag of frozen veg is $2 something at Aldi here and milk is $2.80/l which is over $11/gallon. 💛🧡🤎
Very good ideas! I just subscribed. I reuse aluminum foil. Easy to wash and rinse. When it becomes too limp and scraggily. I use it to scrub my pots and pans. I enjoy reading the comments, lots of good tips.
I like how you start shopping in meats, the most expensive item on the list usually. Then you can adjust for everything else. I do that also. Great recipes.
@@stanialynnewhen you say this - please make sure you indicate that there is the 25% exchange (73 Cnd cents : 1.00 USA ) before we even consider food prices which have always been high 🇨🇦🙏
It's similar to pioneer woman's beef bake. I boiled eggs noodles . Next bowl added cottage cheese sour cream. Garlic powder onion powder fresh parsley. Any seasons you want. Made. Basic spaghetti sauce with meat. Layer like you did like. Lasagna but I used motz and cheddar cheese. Not really coat effective as yours but way cheaper than homemade lasagna lol
