The Crown imposed a tax on the imports to the colonies because it was the British navy protecting protecting all of the merchant ships, which is expensive. The colonies were mostly fine with this and just wanted a say in parliament (or whatever it was called back then). The crown refused and started taking colonials guns and arresting them for speaking out against the crown. The crown was being authoritarian and oppressive. People got fed up and fought back. I believe there was about 8 years of fighting before the Declaration of Independence was even signed.

He is the 23rd president of the U.S. and the main antagonist in Jjba part 7, Steel Ball Run. His stand is D4C (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap) and has the ability to travel to parallel universes and bring people from them to the main one. This allows Valentine to pull other versions of himself to the main universe if he dies, essentially giving him immortality. He can even bring other people from those universes to the main one, and if two of the same person come into contact, they are both destroyed. For example, if Valentine brings parallel universe Nogla here and they meet each other, they both die, the only exception to this is Valentine himself. Fun fact, there is a panel in the manga where he's shot through the ear, meaning Jjba predicted the future, and the Trump assassination attempt is a Jojo reference. Thank you and goodnight, everyone
