30 Minutes of Effortless Freeskating! 

Yes, it's good to take a break to recover. It gets better with time, the balancing uses muscles in your legs that you usually don't use much so when you're learning (and riding) you work them out and they get sore. It goes away in like two weeks and you won't be getting sore from riding them after that. After the soreness stops, you'll probably still get tired fast from riding them, once again, it's because you don't use these muscles often. This should improve over time from both building muscle and better technique, but don't be discouraged if it takes you a few months. My commute is mostly very very slight upwards inclines but because of that I was almost huffing even after just 5 minutes. On the way back though it's a lot easier. Now the incline doesn't bother me as much (although I still get a light workout just doing it), and the way back is basically effortless.

Ric has some great tips! Yeah, if your body is getting that sore, definitely take a break to recover. Freeskating uses muscle groups you're likely not used to using, so it's normal to experience this. As a result of the soreness and tension, you may make things worse by forcing it. After taking a break, small tip for when you start practicing again... try to keep your knees bent, and your feet shoulder width apart (not too much wider). Keeping your feet spread apart will create stability, however it also limit your range of motion and make riding feel very tense. The more you get out there and practice (and take breaks when needed), the soreness should subside and you'll be able to skate for longer. Stick with it, you got this!

Guess it's in the eye of the beholder! We think freeskating looks absolutely sick, and we get countless compliments when we're out riding. Usually it's here on the internet where a few people will say otherwise :)

I think that's part of the charm and what makes them so fun. The thing about freeskates is that everyone immediately recognizes just how difficult these are to ride, and the amount of skill it requires. So regardless of how someone may think it looks, they respect it. It's also something most people have never seen before in their lives. It has a "that's different, kinda goofy, but absolutely badass" vibe that I adore. The way you pump them is awesome, and tricks like the throwback where you kick the skate away from you and it rolls back are so unique to the platform and beautiful that it makes freeskates something really special to me..

Yes! Check out our RU-vid short about velcro + freeskates. Currently it's only a DIY thing, but we may make it an option at some point in the future. In our opinion, a big part of what makes freeskates so great is the detached nature of them. So while straps would give you the ability to jump, you'd be taking away so many upsides in the process.

@@jmkride I just watched it. Have you seen how power pads are used on electric unicycles? Maybe you could make pads that Velcro on and let you lock in, but you can still just pull out when needed. I was also thinking about using magnets and sliding your foot to release. I just ordered a pair of freeskates-I think I can use them to help me rehab from this broken leg I had. I’m just now allowed to put 100% weight on it, so I need to build up all the muscles again to stabilize my knee and learn to walk again. Two titanium bars and 10 screws, lol. We have chrome trucks, that would be the closest to what you're looking for! It's normal for the paint to get scuffed, but if you prefer a fresher look, you may like using our edge guards!

@@jmkride ha the paint isn't "scuffed" it is chipped. Which looks bad. I will have to look into the chrome trucks or the edge guards I guess.

Unfortunately they're currently sold out of the chrome version, but if you go to the site and click on "PARTS" at the very top you'll find them. Edge guards are under "ACCESSORIES" and will help protect the paint on the deck itself. Since this is your first and learning pair of freeskates, I wouldn't care about the paint at all. Every chip and scrape tells the story of your learning/riding journey. Not to mention your feet cover the things and nobody can really tell how damaged they are when you're riding around anyways. That said, an all chrome version would be pretty cool, or maybe they could try an all stonewashed version that naturally hides the damage.
