Dachshunds, chihuahuas, Pomeranians - those are not low energy breeds, chihuahuas especially get very neurotic without stimulation and poms - incredibly loud and reactive. Dachshunds (weiner dogs) are a breed famously bred for hunting and it reflects in their intellectual demands as well as energy levels, definitely not a dog for someone who doesn't like outdoors and walks with a purpose, same as yorkies. They will NOT be happy with just 15 minute walks around the block as sole form of exercise. Frenchies are very friendly but don't do well in isolation and need a LOT of interaction and play, these aren't independent dogs, quite the opposite. Chows and shar-peis are a very difficult breed and can be very dog aggressive. Greyhounds also need a lot of exercise to avoid becoming fearful and neurotic and their speed and prey drive makes finding right space to exercise them difficult. Funnily enough, the larger breeds (Wolfhounds, Saint Bernards, Newfies) are much more easy going emotionally. Bernese are wonderful but they can be very spunky and very, very high in energy when young. Great Pyrenees aren't dogs for apartment owners, these are dogs bred for farm work. Loyal, kind, incredibly intelligent but independent and requiring a lot of intellectual engagement as well as ability to roam and guard. If you adopt or buy a large breed dog, make sure your apartment isnt only accessible through several flights of stairs. Young dogs of giant breeds shouldn't use the stairs for the period of their most intense bone growth. Giant breeds have a higher chance of developing joint problems and arthritis in older age and it might get progressively difficult if not impossible for a large breed, elderly dog with arthritis to get to even first floor apartment without pain. Be mindful that in case of injury you might need to support them or even carry them up and down these stairs. Best dog for people who don't have a lot of space and energy, especially working full time? A senior dog! They are easy going, incredibly loving, much more forgiving of training mistakes, have less energy demands and can easily sleep through work day and commute. Especially mutts and working breed dogs can be in excellent health up to their last weeks, with some medium and small sized mixed breed dogs living 20+ years. I adopted a 14 year old dog that was mistakenly put on hospice (for what turned out to be a lipoma) who shared another TEN YEARS with me, nine of which were filled with adventure. This spunky grandpa waffles fearlessly through any wilderness, conquering human and dog's hearts left and right. He was my first "reaaally old" dog and he completely changed my mind regarding senior dogs. He made me less afraid of passing time, of aging and dying. All dogs are special but for an empathetic person with more love to give than energy and physical strength, a senior dog is the perfect choice. Give an oldie a chance. There will be dogs more beautiful and Instagram friendly, sure, but none more loving and grateful. There is no better feeling than knowing you gave a dog that was thrown away, discarded like an used, outdated toy, their best years (or months,or weeks). We can change one dog's entire world, our love can heal them - they change and blossom in new homes in the most magical way. Giving that love, that chance, to an animal that really, really needs it, who doesn't have that much longer to wait, choosing them over picture perfect dogs without a past- truly feels like nothing else in the world. If you ever felt unwanted, have been discarded, devalued, passed on - choosing to rescue feels like a healing spell. Whatever you choose - educate yourself, be mindful of the expenses and always have a contingency plan for pet care - for when you fall ill, get older and less mobile, have a prolonged hospital stay or even loose your life, (especially if you are single/live alone), for if they require constant or expensive care for some time or permanently, for if you loose your place to live (especially if you rent) or have to travel - and so on and so forth.

11:05 "They only need a few long walks a day." I don't think you know the meaning of lazy

What about lazy, quiet dogs that don't need long walks, dont need grooming, easy to train, dont nip, are great with cats and kids?

Calling people lazy is rude. They cold be old or handicapped or have a medical condition
@NolanChung-v8h
@NolanChung-v8h Год назад
I agree, but I also think it doesn't count as rude because the majority of people will just be "lazy"/can't spend too much time walking the dog. The tiny percent which is handicapped watching this is fine. They are going to be just A-ok bro

What is a long walk and a short walk?
@KiwiG12
@KiwiG12 6 месяцев назад
id say long walk is an hour, short walk is 15 or 20 min

@firstjocker802 the point I was trying to make is long walk and short walk are subjective terms. They should really define what is short and long by using distances. In fact even you using time as a gauge is subjective. When I walk my young Cavalier King Charles she is energetic and fast. When I walk my older Shih-tzu walks very slowly.

If you're lazy, you probably should not get any dog.

I disagree. I have no problem going for a few walks a day, in fact it is probably good for me to have to go for a walk... but I don't like high energy dogs I like dogs that like to Netflix and chill just like me.

Some of us can not run or take long walks due to disabilities. Has nothing of being lazy. Maybe you need to spend 22+ years in military, 3 different wars, put up with abusive homes, and then you can be called lazy like you called us. And yes I have dogs, horses, cats, and 4 pigs.

@@oscarsmith9807 I've been in abusive homes, and now have CPTSD, depression and a bunch of other issues. I got a dog at the time I was doing relatively well, but it got worse again. It's just not fair that an animal has to pay for their owner's laziness/depression/poverty/disabilities/whatever.
