Here's a tip: weigh yourself. Then pick up your suitcase and hop on the scale. Subtract your own weight. Congrats you've weighed your suitcase at home probably without buying a contraption.
That only works if you bring nothing back. We not only buy stuff at destinations, we also reshuffle our belongings before coming back. I can't not have a hand scale.
If you're traveling to Europe, take washcloths or face wipes for removing makeup. European hotels do not have washcloths; only towels. I like to do my skincare routine and I don't like splashing my face from the sink.
My aunt tried to get a washcloth from the front desk at their hotel in Germany. She kept trying to act out washing her face with a washcloth, and they just kept giving her more towels! 😆
I LOVE the fact that I could see where to skip to the next tip when the current one was something I already knew. Nice down to earth delivery-no false excitement or inane chit chat👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 just a nice personable delivery
For health & beauty items that you only need a tiny bit of (foundation, liquid lip color, stuff like that), a contact lens case works nicely as a DIY travel size. It’s usually also a good idea to simplify your routine, just so you only have to pack and keep track of five items instead of ten. Multitaskers like foundation/sunscreen can help too.
Packing cubes and rolling my clothes saved me when I when on a trip to Italy, France, and England for 3 weeks last year with my family! I'm planning on solo traveling soon and I'm DEFINITELY bringing my packing cubs when i go!
I thought I was the only one! Lol I have a permanent packing list on my phone in the reminder app. Super hard core. I have tabs for each type of thing I need to pack. Toiletries, consumables, bottoms, etc. I even have URLs for things I might need to replace as well as packing hacks under the note for each one. Lol.
@@randomuploadsism hahaha it’s intense and I acknowledge that it is also very extra! But I’m on vacation right now and it makes packing so much easier.
My first thought was "I could never" then my next thought was "super jealous and I wish I was organized enough to have that" 😂 it honestly sounds like a great idea
@@SvayaG thank you ☺️ I will be the first to admit that it’s so extra! But honestly, even though it’s a lot of work initially, it’s always on my phone now and all I have to do is uncheck everything and I can reuse it and tweak it over and over, so in the long run it has saved me so much time! You should do it!
Add a dryer sheet to your laundry bag for better smelling laundry going home. Also add 1/2 a sheet in the toes of athletic shoes too. There is no such thing as a sweet smelling athletic shoe. Make sure your adapter for the UK is also a voltage adapter. The UK uses a 220 volt plug; the U.S. uses 110.
similar to the dryer sheets my mother used to just throw a little bar of scented soap in with the clothes to keep them smelling good, and then you have extra soap if you need it
I have put a sticky label on the OUTSIDE of my passport, large enough to write down my passport number and expiry date. Then I don’t have to open my passport every time I need to fill out a transit card. All the information is on the outside! I’ve been doing this for years, and it’s a game changer!
great idea as it's annoying to get them all out and open for the customs cards (travelling as a family) - I will take photos of the main page and keep on my phone
Thank you very much for your wonderful video. You might want to add the new rules about lithium batteries not going in your luggage. This kind of safety tip would be very helpful.
Tip 2 and 3 are my personal favourites. Everybody needs to be aware of the policy and baggage choice before travel. This is the most important when one plans to travel to multiple cities - based on my recent experience 😑 Keep up the Good job...I've always loved your Insta posts but your videos are really informative 😊
A frozen sponge - I like that! Simple and smaller than the standard water bottle. Plus, I might be able to wrap a necklace around it later to keep it safe.
some extra tips on top of hers: buy refillable bottles in different colours or with different coloured lids, very helpful; pack some wash stuff at the top, because you will often want to wash and dry your hands or have a freshen up when backpacking or other heavy travelling, and some toilet roll; tampons etc vary wildly from country to country, so pack your own brand you normally use!; some banal medications and vitamin-mineral supplements are illegal in some countries, eg pure iron supplement is banned in Holland because it's dangerous for children (but essential for anaemic vegan women!); pack something heavy that you'll use up, such as muesli, so you have spare weight as well as spare space for the junk you acquire; research your plugs and chargers before you go, don't take worldwide when one light one will do, especially split into usbc-usb lead plus relevant usb plugs, and maybe take an OTG powerpack; i can't go anywhere without my kindle, but even if you normally never read, download a couple of bearable books onto your phone, nothing is so useful if you're stuck somewhere for hours (airports! airplanes!) as a book and now you don't have to carry an extra half kilo / 1lb per book, you can indulge; take totes and bags without english writing on, so you don't scream 'tourist'! (and attract crime); do not just worry about having valuables pickpocketed or bagsnatched, worry equally about all things you need, eg hearing aid, glasses, medicines, keys, passport, and act accordingly; take a headscarf, portable antimacasser and way to block you or someone else's cough. A showercap is useful, because lots of european showers don't have a detachable hand bit but just holes overhead.
It's my first time traveling in many years. Kinda forgot how to pack my bag lol. This is such an awesome tip list. The things you learn! Great and fun presentation! Thanks alot.
Great tips - the only other thing I would suggest is to bring some folding travel hangers, especially if you are traveling with a friend, as there are usually only a handful in cheaper London hotels! An extension cord is also handy, as many outlets are in awkward places. Love the adapter with multi ports - great idea.
I like to pack a big gauzy scarf for summer trips to Europe - often the beds had only a comforter, which is too much for hot summer nights. The scarf worked as a makeshift top sheet - just enough to feel comfy but not hot. And then of course it worked as a scarf too, for cooler days :)
You're supposed to crawl inside the eiderdown bedding, so the thin comforter "cover" acts as a top sheet in warm weather, but in cool weather you flip it and the eiderdown is on top.
I carry one canvas shopping tote bag and a normal plastic bag in my handbag and once i settle down on plane I take out tote bag and plastic bag and put all the stuff in tote bag like socks , thongs, toiletries, beanie, snack, earplugs or whatever you need on plane and it becomes very handy especially at the end of journey 🙂
Good video -- packing is a big part of travel! I usually forget at least one thing -- last trip it was the bottle of melatonin pills, for jet lag. My favorite tip is the one about the clip for the toothbrush. I sometimes put toothbrushes in those flimsy hotel cups, which always tip over!
Oh my GOSH I have had that happen way too many times (with the cup tipping over!) it’s the worst minor inconvenience 🤣 thanks so much for watching and for leaving such a thoughtful comment!!
I'm so happy you made a RU-vid channel! I love following you on Instagram and your most recent trips on finding the cutest/unique Christmas Markets in Europe so jealous. Great tips! Packing cubes are a genius invention.
If you have lots of power items bring a small power board. Plug in computer chargers, hairstyling things etc. Then you just need 1 electrical adapter for connecting to wall
Frozen water bottle- favorite idea! as they allow ice just not water which is weird, but we tried it once and now do a lot. Travel wraps was a good thought. Also Using old Bags to stop leaks for toiletries was good, as I have tended to use fruit/veggie grocery bags that are small and thin but they're still bulkier and more waste as well!
Sorry, this tip is a big fail. Gods know I wish it was so easy. Yeah, I tried. Rome security asked me to empty my reusable carafe, I couldn't, because yeah it was frozen. Choice on a late boarding, leave security with my bottle and try to dethaw in a bathroom or ditch bottle and proceed through. If you want to pull this jam, do so with a clear, bought in store bottle. In Rome you probably won't get through but at least you won't lose your personal refillable water bottle. K? 😊😊😊❤😊😊😊
I have a collection of under 3 oz containers for all the eventualities. For example for a weekend 1 oz of shampoo is enough but for a longer trip I'd max out the 3.3 oz allowance. Plus my shampoo to conditioner ratio is 2 to 1 so I decant accordingly. Contact lense= cases are great for small amounts of gels or as a pill box.
1. Even if the climate is cold, if you are sitting by a window on a train or bus, it can still be HOT. 2. I wear roll-on deodorant. I push the tip of a metal nail file next to the ball, twist it and pour deodorant into a tiny bottle (may want to use tiny funnel). I can carry weeks worth in a tiny place. It’s easy to put on with a tissue or a finger. 3. MOUSSE-Mine is too big for a carry on. I spray as much into a bowl or measuring cup as I would use for each day I wash hair, then add a little extra. In a day or two, the mousse will be liquid or gel. Put it in a tiny bottle.
Great tips. I have used many but the necklace and straw was a good one. I myself pack my cloths in baggies for that extra protection. Thanks for sharing.
I love all your tips ..They are amazing. Would never of thought of some of those. My Favorite would be the shower cap for shoes, hair tie holder and tick tack container..🙂
Personnally, if I know that I will do laundry during a trip, I think it's a good idea to bring a small quantity of laundry powder and a few sheets of bounce because I find that's it's hard to find it in small quantity in stores. Anyway it doesn't take much place and it doesn't weight much.
Oh the binder clip toothbrush holder is a great idea. I don't it sitting wet in it's case. Large binder clips are also great for clipping over top of a razor so you don't reach in and cut yourself.
I like the bag/backpack slightly smaller than the suitcase tip. Would work better than the flimsy backpack I used on my last trip. The shower caps on the shoes I did last month in Germany-it was wet all week and had some mud on my boots. Good tips!
Congrats Aaran! Thanks for the comment - you're the winner of this week's postcard!! Could you email me hello@happytowander.com with an address to send it to? Thanks again for all your support!
Honestly shower caps for my wet shoes doesn't work because my husband shoe size is 11 doesn't fit at all. So, I always bring used grocery bags is so handy after used just toss it. Used grocery bag doesn't weigh much or occupy space in your suitcase. I used it also for damp, sweaty and stinky tshirt. And put some broken(cut into pieces) Irish spring soap bar because bounce dry sheet cannot suppress the stinky odor from backpacking trip.
I purchase small (4mm) bags for things like Q-tips, pills, etc. as they take less room than the tic tac containers from Amazon). Also because we travel so much, I have my carry-on case ready to go in a minute's notice. Thanks for your suggestions.
Girl you deserve ALLLLLLLL THE SUBS. This was amazing and I freaking love your editing style!! And the humour also made me sub hahahaha. Will definitely be binging your channel before my trip (hopefully happening) in 2021 !!!
I have a cold weather packing list and a cold weather packing list. Sometimes it has to be combined depending on where I am going, but it’s still s very helpful.
I just found your channel and loved it as much as I loved your face and voice I could watch you all day long! I'm surprised you don't have a million subscribers already! Any tips for traveling with children?
Great tips, some of which I haven't seen elsewhere (such as the binder clip as toothbrush stand). Charming and direct presentation, Thank you so much!! =)
