Magnificent. I had no idea people were involved in so many steps of the production process. I've had 7 textbooks published; it would have been such a thrill to see the printing process in action.

Heidelberg Speedmaster prints 18,000 sheets per hour. Each sheet has 32 pages if you check the plate in the video. 32x18,000=576,000 pages per hour. It becomes 160 pages per second. It can’t be 300 books per second. Unless 1 book only has 0.533 page.

300 books a second would produce the ENTIRE estimated world's yearly book sales in under 100 days. So I agree, it's absolutely not 300 books per second, not even in the entire facility.

In the early 70s, I worked for a printing company that printed limited runs of magazines and booklets. The binding machine was the most complicated machine and made a pleasing sound. There was the time that the cover of the magazine was put upside down, and we had to unstaple the covers, which took forever and run it a second time.

Wonderful to see. For me quite nostalgic as there was a bookbinders company in the family, sadly no more. I visited it regularly with my grandad and remember all the noises the machines and the paper made. An engineering marvel to handle paper so quickly so delicately.

300 books a second would make the entire world's yearly book sales in under 100 days. So, no. However, good shots of the production process. I once considered applying at a book printing facility, it's neat seeing the kinds of things I might have done. Ended up going to an offset printing place, which has some of the same earlier steps.

3:27 From a safety standpoint I find it odd to see this blade cut while the worker barely removed his hand from the paper. I always thought machines like this would have switches that required both hands. Should be standard when operating machines lke these. Maybe there is a laser detecting whether the blade can cut. The stickers suggest otherwise though.

Lots of maintenance needed on those machines. The workers leaving things unadjusted, unattended to and with tools laying on odd spots is not good. Almost all books in Japan and Korea are printed with softcover. The only reason they are cheap is because they employ cheap labor. I will get my books printed in Korea or China (even cheaper) to sell across the world.

They didn’t mean that they produce 300 books per second, it means if you divide the number of books being produced to 30 days then to 24 hours then to 60 minutes then to 60 seconds, we produce 300 books per second, it’s not rocket science
