@WHOTEEWHO Please don't EVER shoot someone's else's reloads not knowing the specs and act like it's ok ( you're going to get an innocent amature killed or worse ) and who ( maybe Biden ) reloads Rum with fmj, inexcusable.
One powerful round, this will be fun. Thanks again WTW, for fun videos for the good ole boys and girls. Good shooting and long live WTW FAMILY, CHANNEL AND FANS. 👍🇺🇸💣
ROUSES... YEAH WE DO!!! WE HAVE ONES THAT GLOW IN THE DARK, AND MAKE YOUR GEIGER COUNTER GO BESERK!!! EVEN SCARED GODZILLA AWAY! I KNOW! I'M A VEGAS BOY!
Recoil being no slouch I think a beartooth cheek riser would do some good with jarring your jaw pretty good. They’re on Amazon not too expensive either.
@@WHOTEEWHO a great idea is to put a pillow between your shoulder and the stock when you’re sighting in! That’s what I do with my tikka 7mm rem mag super lite. I can comfortably shoot it standing or off a bench but prone it is pretty painful after a few shots
His butt pad looks pretty substantial. They make shooting vests with integrated material to help with shooting. Not a fan of sticking a sloppy pillow between my rifle and my shoulder. Best thing to do is use a lead stead and ratchet strap the rifle down to hold it from jumping and let the sled take all the impact.
I reload my own ammo it can be dangerous if you're careful but it can also be super accurate I would definitely trust the person I get them from and not just anyone
It’s fine, I always weigh my hand loads before shooting. You can find minimal discrepancies. Mainly just checking for inaccurate powder drops if you’re using an automatic dropper. I prefer a powder dispenser and always double check with another scale to verify your powder weight load.
@@RadDadisRad You are very wise to do double checks and to express it to the masses. Visual checks on powder levels in a case can catch improper casting of powder too.Same thing on what powder, case, bullets, primers you are using. Many years ago, I read Warren Pages book on bench shooting and cartridge preparation for consistency. Tuning a cartridge to a particular rifle is really a joyous thing (even if one of your buddies rides your back to find one for his rifle).
Same...my fellow ...50...60.70? Year gunsmith, also lead jet engineer super smart and wise..I shoot his loads no problem... If he cuts my chambers then I trust his loads if he gives me any
@@RadDadisRad the biggest discrepancy I find is when using different cases there’s always a variance between manufacturers in cases so usually I try to separate out my cases for my final check .
I got my 300 RUM in 1999 as a graduation college present for an Elk hunting trip to Wyoming. That rifle pissed off everybody at the range when I sighted it in, he came over to me yelling about the muzzle blast and there are no Moose in NC. Bruised my shoulder after 20 rounds of Nosler parrition bullets. I always loved firing it and everybody looking down the firing line at me.
I really like 300 RUM for its ability to ‘defeat’ level 4 armor. And when I mean defeat I mean not necessarily penetrate the armor but cause tremendous /unsurvivable backface deformation. Too bad there’s no semi auto platform for this
Thank you for the information truly truly appreciate it all the information you can give us on these videos is appreciated we as a public need it you are a needed public servant whether you understand that or not we need you and thank you so I thank you as well. So keep your powder dry and shoot straight.
And I appreciation acknowledged from you such you apart from the other ones I watch. That's simple acknowledgment sets you apart. That turns you into something different to watch than the others do you see what I'm getting at that fine line the from the from the from the good to the great from the bad to the good it sets separates difference differences I should say the differences so keep up the good work and we all thank you. 😇 And God bless please God bless you
Shoot, and record it at night! When you see a muzzle blast that looks like an atomic bomb went off, you'll know then why you move it back. Or when it completely blows it over.
Definitely NOT a true dangerous game rifle or cartridge. A DG cartridge starts at the 9.3x62 and goes to the .375H&H and then goes to the .416 Rigby and WAY up from there. A true danger game stopping rifle starts at the .450 Nitro.
@@DaveL9170 Not necessarily so. It's more the theory launched by weapon producers (who like to offer a "variety of choices" to the public/customers). There is NO grizzly or lion-loner, or an elephant that could survive a well-placed (head shot) bullet of a 22-250, or even 243, or 8x57 Mauser, or 30.06, let alone ultra mags.
Nice rifle you have there! Shooting a 300RUM off hand is wise. Shooting on from the bench is pretty punishing, but that's what you need to sand bag up and do to really test it's bore for accuracy. My Remington has a 5 twist barrel. It is pin point accurate, but it kicks like an ANGRY mule!
I'm glad you bought it so I know I won't a 300WM 180 factory ammo is going 3083 I just don't see the up side of the 300RUM or 300WUM more of a novelty if anything.
That’s one fast 30 caliber !! Appreciate ya, and oh to be that young again and shoot all those rifles……….. I’m thinking about letting my 270 collection collect dust and pickup a 243 or something on that line . Thanks for the video!
I love your videos. Short and to the point. Perfect for someone like me with the attention span of a gnat. Please, don't ever become like Hickock45, that guy puts me to sleep. Oh look! A squirrel!
You have gotten me very interested in the RUM, owning a 300 Win Mag and loving the recoil...Who needs one? I do, to quote a line from an Aussie movie "Barramudi are a bloody big fish" lol. Tried to locate on here in Australia and could only find 3 and they are not cheap. Looking forward to the Win Mag and RUM comparison
I shot a 300 Win Mag for 30 years. My wife purchased a stainless version the year the 300 RUM came out and I set my old 300 aside; everyone I ran into at various gun shows wanted to purchase it from me. They are rarer than I thought. The recoil on the 300 RUM is quicker than anything else I've shot; the down range energy release is tremendous. Also, it may be the most accurate rifle I have, out pacing even my varmint rifles. I think it has what they call a 5 twist barrel. The shells are expensive, for sure.
The Rem 700 SPS is your best bet, $100 difference between blued or stainless. I picked up my stainless version for $1475. I know they still have stock of these presently.
I have a Remington Sendero chambered in 300 RUM. I chronographed a 180 grain Sierra Match King at 3375. (Handload) it makes you forget what your doing for a couple seconds when it goes off. Barrel life is rather short on these cannons. If you single handedly burn one of these barrels without a brake, you possibly could be on the way to a detached retina, or need a shoulder replaced.
Hey there WTW always glad to catch up on my WTW videos that 300 rum is pretty bad ass thanks for forking over all that cheddar for those rounds we all appreciate you thanks for another great video 👍
Hey Adam. The speed of those hand loads are consistent with 180 grain projectiles for what it's worth. My friend has a Remington 700 in the 300RUM and loves it on everything thing from sambar deer to pigs and scrub bulls. The vortex ammo is the bomb with Barnes TTSX projectiles which as you said is exy alright. Just curious what scope you might be thinking of putting on this jigger? As always, I enjoyed your video and the trouble you go to and thanks for sharing mate!
On the reloads. You can pull the bullet with a Hornaday cam loc die in a press. Or use a kinetic bullet pulker. Then weigh the bullet on a scale for weight. And weigh the powder charge. You can always ask the guy you bought it from what the reloads are : bullet weight, powder and weight in grains and cartridge over all bullet seating length.
I use an air rifle to test my chronograph setup the cheapest way possible before spending real bullets that just wont register. My 338 lapua taught me that lesson.
I wanted to keep the iron sights on my WIN 70 but also wanted to mount a Leupold on it to. I mounted the higher scope rings which worked out perfectly to have both and not bad looking either. Those hand loads are probably power runs for the best grouping the rifle likes. Looked like good # there but check the primers for pressure signs, betcha there normal looking. (You don't want "Flat Primers"). 3100+ fps, that's not lazy...
My buddy has a 300 RUM, and although it has a bit more power than my 300 WIN MAG, I don’t see a really big difference in penetration, to want to endure that extra recoil. Using pork ribs, and pork shoulders, the damage from the RUM wasn’t all that much more, using the 180 gr. So for much easier and cheaper Ammo finds for the 300 WIN MAG, I will stick with that. Although, I wouldn’t mind owning a RUM, cus, why not lol. Great video as usual brother, love the channel, been with you since the beginning.
I think the purpose of the rum would be to shoot heavier bullets with higher SD and bc than you can in 300 wm at the same or a bit greater velocity than the 300 wm. I have both and I'm getting 3000 fps with 225 grain eldm out of my rum.
That big old 30 girl I built one for ELR with a 33 inch barrel you really don’t wanna hear anything later than 230 grain bullet for your kind of wasting your time and barrel life when you can get good speeds with smaller cartridges. To load the Rum properly it’s single shot I mainly shoot to 245 Berger bullets at 4.125” in ELR competition I’m pushing them at 3140ft./s and the 230 grain at 3225 fps so like I said anything lighter it starts to underperform But awesome cartridge I love it
Buddies got the 8mm rem mag 700 safari….I got a cartridge layin here and it’s about mile long…I used to see ammo in dunhams in Ashland yrs back right at $100bx…
I had a 300. Remington Ultra Mag costume made many year's ago a fluted sendero barrel with a muzzle brake on it. The muzzle brake takes out a lot of the tooth jarring kick!! Love the gun still have it has put a lot of meat on the table. When I had it made a lot of people said you don't need that you'll blow a lb. of meat off the deer may be but I would rather lost a Lb. then the hole deer. Not long afterwards a lot of my friends started buying 300.mag's!!
You commented that you had a 300 Remington Ultra mag costume made several Years ago. And i was joking with you about wearing it Halloween and which color bullet tip you wore.
I reloaded a 300 RUM with 165gr Noslers. I had a Cheap Crony and said it was reaching 3700 FPS. Devastating on whitetail. There wasn't much reloading data on the RUM when it came out. Reloader 23 is what I used. I'll have to revisit it and see what recommended loadings are now.
Honnestly, you should reload your ammo! I have 2 .300 RUM rifles, and I reload my own ammo, with the Barnes 165 grains TTSX, for approximatly 2$ per rounds...... (Canadian price!)
Goodness that rifle kills on both ends. Then the dirt shower geeze. I’m impressed but don’t wanna shoot it. Watch out wtw scope will change your brows on this bing bang
I don't know everyone else calls it but we call the compression rounds where the fill them to the top and there are very few people I trust to load them for me and the are super hot
That hornady is probably a eld-match or eld-x only difference in em is the ogive of the belly and one of them has a hollow pocket behind the tip, it aids in expansion I think, so probably the eld-x. I shot the 220 eldx commercial box ammo to get brass and Holy shit were they moving for 220gr bullets lol I figured around 3100fps... they only loaded the box ammo that hot because it was boasted as long range elk ammo extremely accurate off the shelf. I bought 212 eld-x's for hand loads(had them moving at a comfortable 2900fps @ 65°F, and also have used the 225 eld-match's and had them moving around 2950 @ 46° without any pressure signs accurately even when I shot them in the summer at 75°. Now I have moved onto the 230gr SMK's and have my hand load dialed in at 2863 @ 56°, my hand loads read 2861, 2864, and 2867 for my average. I am not saying this too brag, you could easily and probably are a better shot than me and there is a world of people out there who can out do me. I was just sharing all this to say what the 300RUM is capable of. Anyhow, I really liked your video sir, I hope to see more in the future, thank you and have a wonderful day O also reloading for them makes em a little bit more affordable lol, key word was a little bit hahaha
@@Chris_Garman level 4 stops 22-250 cold. it sometimes stops 300 RUM too however the backface deformation is very bad well over the acceptable 44mm NIJ limit.
I think it's cool because it's rare! If you hand load, you could tailor your rounds to what you need! Some hot, some not so hot, depending on what your shooting at.🇺🇸✝🇺🇸
Yeah these bullets cost $5 or $6 dollars/piece, I'm only using one and we're just going to adjust from there. HAHAHAHA!!! I feel your pain who-tee-who, I have these larger calibers in barnes and they are darn expensive!!!!! but seriously, it's worth every penny.
@@Chris_Garman The barrel life of the 300 Win Mag is somewhere between 1200 and 1500 rounds, the 300 RUM is somewhat faster so I’m guessing 1000-1200 rounds and she’s done, but it would be a fun ride while it lasted.
I put a Sendaro barrel on my Rem 300, just to have the only one around. Due to an error in the Sierra loading manual, I 'managed' to work up to 3,333 fps for a 174 grain bullet. Man, fast, loud, and a kicker! Gotta admit that I drilled out the stock under the buttplate and inserted two mercury shotgun recoil reducers. Before that, after 40 rounds prone at the range I twitched a bit when even thinking about pulling the trigger. :)
Good stuff. I was tempted to get to get a rifle in 300 RUM, but ended up with a Ruger LRT in 300 Winchester instead. RUM brass cost and availability just outweighs the small performance over the Win mag Imo.
If you plan to sight in solid copper like Barnes; the barrel needs to be extremely clean to see it’s true accuracy. Being told years ago from the pro when we had to go non toxic ammo in California. My sendero shoots same hole with Barnes 180 ttsx ammunition, and of of course with extremely clean barrel. I clean my barrel after i shoot all the time though.
Had a Remington 700 chamber for this round, for about three years. I live in the central Rockies and wanted it as a canyon crossing elk gun. Took one elk with it then promptly sold it. My shoulder didn't need that much punishment and I don't need to evaporate the money out of my wallet that fast.
