This was an awesome series that you guys did. I learned a lot thanks for doing it. However, I do have one request, I would love to see you do a 300 Weatherby magnum versus a 30-378 Weatherby magnum series!

The 300 RUM is a great cartridge! That being said I still choose the 300 Weatherby. The performance of the RUM is not really any advantage in the field. Accuracy when comparing the Weatherby and RUM is more about fuzzy math, wishes and dreams. The accuracy of the Weatherby is well known along with its potential if matched with the right target rifle. I’ve gotten in excess of 3500 on a 150 grain round and over 3200 fps with 180 grain load. When you start stuffing a lot more powder to achieve a slight advantage, barrel life starts to become a question of practicality. So a big game animal is going to tell the difference between 3250 fps and 50 fps more? I think not.

The velocity you are getting with your 300 Weatherby magnum is awesome. It shows the old dog can still hang in there lol.

It's important to note the nosler manual you use is showing velocity for the Weatherby in a 26 inch barrel and the RUM in a 24. The 2 inches should bump the RUM up about 50 fps. Still impressive results for the Weatherby.

Good Demo!! I own and shoot both of these rifles in these calibers. They each have their unique characteristic. Extremely flat shooting but there is one other caliber that is faster than 30-378 Wby and that is 7.82 Warbird manufactured by Lazzeroni here in my home state of AZ. I personally don't think anyone needs 7.82 Warbaird since a box of 20 rounds cost $130.00. I think I will hit the brakes at my .300 RUM and dont need anything more than that. 😁

A 175 lrx in a 300 wby would be a versitile round. My pet load is a 200 gr lrx . It was lethal

I am still in the 300 Weatherby camp! As I have mentioned in the past, factory loads used to be loaded hotter than what they are today. Liability issues have changed over time. I don’t believe the difference between the RUM and the 300 Weatherby is enough to make a recognizable difference in the field. Certainly when we compare results from good reloading practices. Belted vs unbelted? If anyone believes that there is a real difference in accuracy, show me the substantive data. Particularly with good quality cases. I don’t dispute that cases without a belt May last longer. Nonetheless, the only real difference between these two cartridges after everything is said and done is up to around 90 fps. 90 fps? Anyone who tells you that they actually see a difference in the field is either fooling themselves or lying to you. I have achieved well over 3100 fps with a 200 grain bullet out of the Weatherby with a 26” barrel. This is not to consider the issue of barrel life! For a little bit more powder in the RUM, barrel life suffers significantly. With good reloading practices, the 300 Weatherby holds nearly as much advantage over the 300 win mag as the win mag holds over the 30-06. Does this make the RUM a reinvention of the wheel? Each individual will have to decide. I am not saying that the RUM is a bad cartridge! By no means! It does however become the law of diminishing returns. To me, the first meaningful advantage over the 300 Weatherby was the 30-378 Weatherby. Indeed, that is a recognizable difference. But again, it comes with a price of greatly reduced barrel life. There are a lot of enthusiasts out there that will refer to the RUM as if the 300 Weatherby has never exsisted. In some ways, this is how it’s always been. Being the proprietary nature of Weatherby rifles and ammo, I get it. Still the facts are what they are. A trophy from every continent in the world, an outstanding long range accuracy track record, and a super high performance record for 80 years doesn’t lie!

Early on, Weatherby never marketed their products to the “average Joe “. It was a different time and place and this cost them some sales. Apparently, they didn’t care. I am an “average Joe.” I also have some expensive tastes. Nonetheless, Weatherby has been a passion and obsession since I was a very young kid. I think it may have been the same for the creator of this channel. I was diagnosed with the Weatherby virus long ago! Show me a marked improvement that makes sense and I will step aside and give credit where it’s due.

Wow I thought my 7mm STW was fast. Might need to upgrade to a 300 Weatherby. Thanks for providing me with an excuse to buy another rifle.

My experience with Nosler ammunition is very negligible. I did buy a box of 22 Nosler for an AR upper I bought. However, I shot 'em all up to get the brass for handloading. In which case, I tend to pay very little attention to manufacturers velocity claims.

The book i have has got 85 GR of RL 22 is Max with a 180 GR. in a 300 weatherby.

What is that reloading/information book?

Ball powder? I’m assuming ramshot magnum? I’ve gotten 3250-3270 here in California in 70-80degree weather

Seems the weatherby ammo today has lost some velocity compared to back in 2019.

With my 300rum I can get 208gr eld’s to 3250 with no problem. I can also easily get 225gr to over 3000fps.

Your velocities with the 300 Weatherby are Rediculous. I have all the 300 win mag brass so I’ll be getting that first but I feel like eventually I’ll end up with a Weatherby too.
