Nothing makes a person more proud of their culture like Mark talking about ones cousine. He is so respectfull and the search of the aunthentic and traditional wais to enjoy food make him one of the best food channels ever, better than any TV show.
@@jle92708 Sorry, i´m from the basque country and I know basque, spanish, french and english. Sometimes spelling words in english is very hard because diferent syllable have the same sound.
I am Japanese national, but I have been living overseas for many years, and I have never been to Kyushu, nor Shikoku regions, and it is so great to see someone like you travel places which have not been promoted as much as Tokyo and Osaka regions! Unagui loooks amazing, I would love to visit there one day!
Do you think Japanese people eat the same way? Large mouthfuls and the like? Just wondering, I'm from Africa where we eat big cuts of meat but the Japanese food looks so delicate (in an inspiring way)
10:34 , I had to stifle myself from throwing up there , that looks like something that I would never eat , I would never eat that , how can anyone eat that ? wtf ?? I love Japanese food , I love Jepsen but that dish is next level disgusting , raw worm fish with white noodles ???? dude wtf ??????
@@PowrAl Interesting question.I'm Japanese and we usually never tend to eat big cut or heavy amount of food.I think there are several reasons:1)Our stomach is basically small(this applies to other Asian people).2)Aesthetic issues. It is very important in Japanese culture how the things looks so nice.Something massive is just an object and an ingredient and there I find no techniques or elaboration. I am always astonished by thick-sliced fishes on sushi rice of abroad everytime I see on internet🍣,this is fisherman's style not for fancy restaurant. All in all "big" food is thought to be country-style and wild in ways good.I dream of eating big cut meat🥩 but not often and every weekend, just wish it one time in a decade😀.
Honestly, Mark - these Japan episodes are so high level! 🙏 Japanese eel is one of those prized foods that belong in a special category - so delicate, flavorful, rich, and distinct! A true culinary VIP... And these versions looks truly incredible 🥲

I’m sooo glad you came to my home town introducing our amazing food culture in Fukuoka! Eel in Yanagawa, oysters in Itoshima, Yatai food in Tenjin .. AWESOME choices!🙌🙌🙌
I am Japanese. A lot of foreign people come to japan recently. Unfortunately, they go to McDonald's often. You can see a lot and various restaurant in Japan compared to Europe and US. Please try to go to many restaurants! I think you do not feel uncomfortable form staff in almost all of restaurants , even if you are other countries person. By the way, Unagi is famous and traditional food, so you can see everywhere in Japan. However, I recommend expensive one in a Unagi specialty restaurant, because you may feel fishy in cheap shop.
I’ve been traveling to Japan constantly for years now, sometimes fearing that foreigners will change Japan trying to make it sth solely for themselves and it will not be the same again 😢😢😢
I've been watching Mark for years now, and it's good to see him look healthy again. There were some point in time that Mark looks really sick, but still has the enthusiasm to make videos for his viewers. Thanks for all the effort in your videos Mark and more blessings to come for you and your family.
@@paulsanders3963 exactly I think he got confused or misinformed about which is alien fish and which is something else...in this case a mudskipper which he clearly didn't like raw but did like fried. He seemed to enjoy the actual alien fish a lot but I gotta say those look totally different and it wouldnt have occurred to me to call them BOTH alien fish
Mark you just amaze me with the foods that you eat the people you meet, a true ambassador for food and most of all the cultures. Love you and your family-California USA. ❤❤❤
I love Mark Wiens, so humble and respectful of other cultures, doesn’t condescend or patronise and no hint of cynicism and slight disdain like in one other food channel I know!
Hi Mark! Amazing to see how much your son has grown since the last videos I saw. I very much enjoyed the introduction by canal. Japanese woodwork is so beautiful.

I think Mark-san is the best food travel reporter in the world!! He and his staffs researched wide area and deep information. They find the best restaurant in earch zone. and he explain the foods in the best words and unbliebable presentation with good edition. He can drow up the best points from each foods and place!!
Usually a Red box contains something sweet! But then that lid comes off and reveals that mouth watering eel with the steaming rice under it! 😋 Another remarkable and unique food tour! Thank you Mark Weins✌
Eel is my favourite fish . In the south of Italy we eat it in two ways. Or in tomato sauce made with olive oil garlic (and fresh parsley in the plate) with spaghetti usually around Xmas or in the oven with potatoes, a dash of olive oil, bay leaves black pepper and lemon. Also sometimes grilled when the eel is very big.
Thanks for triggering my memories of a visit to Fukuoka 20 years ago. It was my first taste of Japan and a week-long exposure to the local foods. I had what was described as the fast-food version of eel. Your description of the experience in your first clip was so reminiscent of my own. I still try to order Eel Don at every opportunity here in the US, but it is never quite the same as my memory of Japan!
As always, a beautiful and insightful video ❤!!. Regarding the surroundings, I am always amazed by how the Japanese manage to have a wooden table, a rock and maybe a flower look like they're telling an entire story. Classy!
I love Japan! I was there in 2017 and enjoyed lots of sushi, ramen, Japanese tea, beautiful manicured gardens, and parks, and even bought beer at vending machines, lol😜, and everything in between - not to mention the place is so clean. I'm really looking forward to going back again. 🙏

Wonderful👏Yanagawa is the best place to eat eel in Kyushu👍 Thank you for coming to my country😆Japanese Name of the two alien fish👇 10:01 "Mu Tsu Go Ro" Boleophthalmus pectinirostris. 10:05 "Wa Ra Su Bo" Odontamblyopus lacepedii.
I'm from this small city, called Yanagawa. Currently I'm living in Spain and I've visited many places but I really miss my hometown. I'm so happy that a very famous yotuber came to Yanagawa and Kyushu, where is one of the less touristic islands in the country, so you can feel a REAL and traditional Japan. And most importantly, Fukuoka and Kyushu have the best meal! Trust me, the guy who also lived in Tokyo and has been to the mayority of japanese prefactures.
I love ice cream when it's cold outside :). Mark I love seeing you and your family together in this simple video, I hope you all went to a onsen to rest, the last few videos seem like they were intense. I am praying for you all for rest and family time together as well as great food in beautiful Yanagawa.
@khobe Briant for someone who has never eaten something even close to this ..this is heaven 😁. I meant this whole Japan series of course including this video 🙌
@@shyamsharma8646Very so agree. If you ever had a chance to indulge in such excellence you can truly understand the privilege of this fine dining per taken.
I'm your fans since 10K subscribers🤭 I know You've been to Japan four times to film videos. Every single time is amazing! No dull moment in Japan videos. I wish you doing this every year 🤣
I have been following your videos for a long time Mark. When I was about to come to Thailand, it was your videos that gave me an insight into the food and culture of the place. Good to see you growing! You never know that you could be helping so many people in a way.
I love grilled unagi, it is one of the foods I love eating. There use to be a market here in Honolulu, Hawaii that sells it in a bento bowl but they stopped a few years back. The unagi was pretty good but wasn't as perfect as what is shown in this vid. This just make my bucket list even longer. =P
japan is a special place with so much lore and Honor! such a beautiful and gorgeous islands. the peace and harmony from that place. at the end of my life i want to journey into Japan and live the rest of my days over!
Yeah these Japan videos I concur are great! I try to stay adventurous but would I do that raw alien fish 😅 not sure. But that eel, rice, and sushi all looked phenomenal! Great vid man..💙
One of the Best food RU-vidrs I ever see. I can't believe Sometimes how much I do Enjoy watching you describe every single detail in every bite you take. It makes your mind transport to the place where you are at the moment.
the eel looks so good when you showed it. I've had it a few times and its always been good. I can't wait to see what you eat next along with where your going to next. Best wishes to you and the family!

You’ve a GIFT… May you be able to share with us as long as you can. ChefDés 😋🤤🥰 Chicago, IL 👩🏻🍳🌃🙏🏼
Mark-san, I mentioned before I used live in Japan. I envy you now much more than when I enjoyed your previous SeaShells in Fukuoka. While living in Japan, I discovered Unagi, which the Japanese enjoy their tradition. Unagai didn't appeal to me when they were alive, but shockingly having tenderness, refined, buttery, and rich flavor, I fell in love with it. Ganso Motoyoshiya is 5-Star Unagi Resturant? Japan was food (Umami) heaven, which other American friends and I always said about Japan. Not just sea foods but Matuzaka & Kobe beef, pastry, cakes, deep fried foods, Sushi, Coffees, etc. Thank you, Mark-san. You have a beautiful family.
Mark I want to personally thank you for your travels and sharing some of the culture and influence that we don’t get to see your day today. God bless you.
Mark, I love watching your show it’s amazing the food you eat and you make me hungry just watching you but God bless you be very safe on your travels and you have a beautiful wife and kid God bless you all. Have fun with you doing.
