Just replaced the bushes on my 230e. Took them right off the car and so had the benefit of clamping the bushes with two vices before fitting the clamping tube. After much farting about I can confirm I finally fitted and flared the clamping tube using this bar and selection of nuts method. Thanks for posting. BTW there is a special Merc tool for the job but I couldn’t find one anywhere, even to borrow.
I know its been awhile, but everything im reading up on doing this job says the bushings tabs need to be up and down in line with the balljoint, not side to side. Did you have any problem aligning it afterwards with them this way?
Was the wheel tilting forward and backward when checked? How can you tell that you needed to change the bushings ? Other than the visual inspection of course :)
