Laimbeer was an example of that Dave Chappelle joke about how the odd white dude rolling with a black gang is the most dangerous one there because he must've done something to earn their respect.
Clem Cornpone 1. It’s a Dave Chapelle joke. 2. You decided to make the connection to cheating and gaining black peoples respect. Sounds like you have a preconceived stereotype of black people being cheaters. 3. Shut the fuck up.
@M if you love it so much. Why the hell are you calling it "soccer" it's Futball. Futbol. Football. Not that other word. It'd make your point better with the "it's the most popular sport" by calling it it's actual name.
@@Figs3 it’s a troll account it comments on every sports videos like this just to make u angry it’s been on AFL NBA baseball golf and everyone best thing u can do is report it for spam
@M football is boring as fuck, watched it when i was like 15 years old. NBA, UFC and NFL are leagues above it. Most people think pop music is good, doesn't mean it is the best music genre. since when does the opinion of the masses matter. most people are idiots with sheep mentality. And i'm from europe ... playing football is fun but watching it is boring. field is too big and 11 men are too many
dolphinbuc I agree with Dumars, however, it was while before he had anyone to pass it too! Jordan never played with another player that was double teamed! So it took Phil, Scotti, and Horace, etc...that's when they were able to trust each other!
@@debrahollinger7167 Actually its called the triangle offense ... it was used when Phil got there ... the same offense used when Phil went to the Lakers ... all those stars on LA team but they weren't winning until Phil got there
Fact man, same with my spurs they don’t talk Duncan and the impact he left on the game it’s nuts Jordan takes up the attention because he defeated a lot of powerhouses.
@@armandodelossantos736 The Dream is lucky Kareem retired .... laffin.... Clyde didn't want to see MJ again. The only reason why they beat the Majic is because Anderson missed those free throws.
@@alphasports3743 you're drunk! Olajuwon is 11-5 against Jordan going into 95', but it would've been the Rockets with Otis Thorpe I'm talking about, not the one with Clyde! Against Olajuwon Jordan had to rely on his mid-range and the Rockets guards played up tight making him drive into Olajuwon's domain, so he was only half effective! The 92'-94' Rockets beat the 6x champ Bulls 3 of those 6 Finals the Bulls played in. The Rockets beat the Bulls 91'-93', lose to the Bulls 96'-98'!
Armando De Los Santos The greatest center of all time. But no one’s beating a Jordan-led team in a Finals series. You know they turned it up another notch. They also beat the teams that specifically beat Houston to get there in several finals.
Ernie is the coolest dude. Just a regular guy, with a love of the game. Love how he gets these guys together and he knows as much, if not more than they do. #OpenCourt4Life!
Armando De Los Santos LMAO that’s funny. Steve Kerr got them playing great. Marc Jackson would never have won a chip with them - stop being so ignorant
He was almost prophetic here, talking about how tough it is to maintain that hunger to compete for titles year after year. As great as the Dubs winning 3 titles was, getting to the finals 5 years in a row was just as impressive, especially in the Western Conference.
I’m kind of shocked they didn’t mention either the Seattle Supersonics, or the Portland trailblazers. Both excellent squads. Really exciting to watch as well.
89-94 Ewing should be talked about more. He had style and had the stat to prove it. one would have to say that Olajuwon stood out more in the 94 finals but it went seven games and the Knicks were in it for most of it in game seven despite John Starks. It was a legit a series as any but Kenny seems to have forgotten that.
@Dani G80 No other Hall of Famer did more with less. Every great one who won a championship had a fellow Hall of Famer/All Star on their team. Ewing had, at best, an above average supporting cast.
@@ninowaves4061 The Knicks' small ball lineup helped them beat the Pacers in the ECF when Ewing was injured so they prolly don't even get to the finals with Ewing. He was old at that time. In his prime he really shoulda had that second guy to help him win and it's a shame he didn't. If he had a Pippen, Kemp, Stockton, Kevin Johnson or Dan Majerle, he woulda won like 1-2 rings
I thoroughly enjoy watching all of the Open Courts. It's interesting listening to former players reflect on where the game has come from and reminisce about when they played.
Real talk, they could have beat the Bulls. Chicago's only flaw was matching up against elite bigs, which they never had to do outside of Ewing. Shaq and Grant destroyed them in '95, which is why they got Rodman. Olajuwon would have given them fits if they matched in the Finals.
@@troymatinca6484 unlimited potential....ability and potential to be one of the best to ever play the game. Watching him elevate on the way to the bucket, he had crazy vertical....
I know Isaiah. Don’t want to talk about pippen only a few said his name. But Scottie was a beast. Scottie and Micheal together whip those team not Micheal by himself Scottie was a huge factor beating the pistons
Scottie wasn’t a big deal until later. The pistons won two series’s against the bulls one with the Jordan rules and then a second with Jordan and Scottie.
Scottie was more a factor in the 2nd threepeat. He actually started to play better after the first Championship. But Pippen didn't become the player we all remember until JORDAN retired and he became the leader everyone looked to.
if you watch the dream team documentary from a few years back they say that Isaiah not shaking the bulls hands did not look good and factored into the decision
Great conversations about guys we watched growing up! Wonderful concept for the players to share, and the fans to get a little (fascinating) insight from the players perspective.
Huge Jordan fan, but I’m thankful for the bad boys. They weren’t afraid of him, and they made him earn everything he got. Was good for Michael. Was good for the sport. True battles.
You can't talk about 90s basketball without mentions Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton and the Seattle super Sonics. Shawn Kemp threw down some monstrous dunks. there were a couple years when they won a lot of games and they were exceptionally good. If Shawn Kemp didn't make questionable lifestyle choices...? Eitherway, you have to recognise Kemp in the 90 s.
@@pman8478 nope. As a huge sonic fan during that era we couldn't beat the bulls. I think what really hurt was the fact we never did get a good center like Alonzo, Ewing,or rick smits to round out our team.
The Sonics couldn’t beat the Bulls, so their chance was the years when the Rockets won. Had they kept their cool, they could have won those 2 championships. And as Kenny The Jet said: they had their number
Thanks for putting these vids up I love the convos they have. Its always gratifying to have the chance to hear and see these pioneers of the game. It's a shame we didn't have that chance with players from decades further back.
as a person who grew up in the 90's watching jordan highlights every morning on espn.. Im telling you that basketball was more than "fun and exciting" it was dangerous, you never knew what would happen. you could see fights, crazy fans, humiliating dunks and taunts. It was a rollercaster ride, and sure threes are kinda neat, its not keeping me on the edge of my seat. I miss it a lot.
The 95-96 Chicago Bulls defeated the Houston Rockets 100 to 86 and 98 to 87 in the two games they played against each other in the regular season, so I don't know why Kenny is trying to act like they didn't have any difficulty playing against the Bulls.
The biggest reason the bulls got beat in 1995 by magic in the playoffs and swept them in return the next yr is because of addition of Dennis rodman. Can't believe Kerr didn't mention that. Also Horace grant was out during the magic bulls series in 1996 except for the first game. The interior presence was far more crucial back then than in today's games
grant wouldn't have changed the result. more than having rodman, what bulls had was way better chemistry than they did the season before. when MJ came back, only pippen and BJ were part of the 1993 roster. no one else knew how to play with MJ yet and with just 17 games left, the bulls had no time to learn how to play as a team.
We naturally associate toughness and physicality with defense (not pretty, grunt work), and associate offense with aesthetics and grace (poetry in motion). A defense first team (Detroit, early Spurs, and Knicks) usually was characterized as being tough and usually was a villain-like character compared to offensive teams (Bulls, Magic, to a lesser extent Rockets) who were favorites.
lol what's funny is that if you've watched Suns vs Spurs in Steve Nash's era, you'd see that the Spurs kept the bad boys tactics somewhat WAY after the rule changes. I personally find that more dirty given the context lol.
bulla werent am offencive team At all. and in there second 3peat even less they Had the lowest pase in the league, bull was all about defence. phoenix, portland, lakers, seattle, miami, charlotte, cavs, and golden state were the offencive minset temas un the 90s
And to this day Orlando Magics still rue the time they declined that Shaq contract extension. This close to become a new dynasty, instead the history of the team filling up with "what if" tell tales.
MJ and Pippen were determined to sweep Orlando because of how the beat them the year prior. I knew they were gonna be done when they lifted Horace Grant on their shoulders. MJ and Pippen were fuming. Shaq did good the leave cause MJ was gonna burn them the rest of thier career.
This is one of my favorite sports shows all about the game of basketball where legends and hall of fame great players share their thoughts, stories and perspectives about their playing days and games as well as on a variety of topics in the league. God bless them all for doing this.
@@DuaneWiseChristianC Yes, but over whom? Stockton? They had even numbers 2 SG, 2 PG, 6FWd, 2C. Do they add Isiah and make uneven numbers? Or do they bump Stockton? I don't know if there was a limit to the roster for Olympic play.
I genuinely hated the Pistons for sure but the talent is undeniable. Laimbeer would do well now I think, tall, tough, can defend, good rebounder, and an excellent pick and pop shooter even out to the 3.
There's a Legend sitting right there with them, looking back at this video. This segment was taken JUST before Steve Kerr took the head coaching job for the Golden State Warriors. 6 Championships in 8 years, right after this. That's pretty incredible, you ask me.
Thats funny, cause he seem to change his mind about the situation depending on what makes him look better. in the last dance he said he wouldnt change a thing and other dumb brainless shit. Hes a petty shmock who still mad he doesnt get the shine he desperately wants.
That's what I was saying watching this Charles, Shaq, and Reggie starred on those teams. Everyone in that room except Zeke were roleplayers. Kenny Smith is hilarious to me. We wouldn't know who he was without TNT.
Doward Washington I beg your pardon? Kenny was the second option on that Rockets team for the first championship run. He was instrumental in their system, and was even a candidate for the MVP award in 1991 season. He was a popular player even competing in a dunk contest. Which is why he regularly judges the contest post career. When did you start following the game? Those of us who grew up in the 80's and 90's know The Jet very well.
Greatest era of basketball. Every team with a 1-2 punch. The most HOFers compared to any era. Man to man defense, post play, some of the greatest centers to play. The days when you need to set screens to get look at a 3.
They all do, how do you think the Lakers got Magic & the Spurs got Duncan the same way. If my star gets hurt he's more valuable wearing a suit on the bench.
Kenny is right about the Knicks...they were absolute grinders to watch and they were bruisers but they didn't have that one guy you could count on to score. But I loved watching those 90's Knicks teams!
One of the best teams not to win it is the early 90s Portland Trailblazers and they don't get recognized. 63-19 season And Clyde Drexler was a similar player to Jordan
Those Blazer teams NEVER get any love on Open Court, and that's a drag. They were the best team in the West for 3 years and you never hear anyone talk about them or Clyde, etc. Ernie even tried to open the door for them in the final segment and they never got a mention from the panel. I know they didn't win a title, but those were some great teams that everyone had issues with. That 90-91 team you mentioned that went 63-19 beat Chicago handedly in two blowouts that season. They got upended in the conference finals to the Lakers, but that year was their big missed opportunity to win one before Michael figured it out.
the blazers would have won titles in 1990 and 1992 if they didn't have to face 2 of the greatest teams of all time. they also lost in 1991 in the WCF to lakers. the early 90s blazers could have won a title in any of those seasons, but they had to face those 3 teams.
Johnny Most was his name. If you can find the rockets vs celtics finals game five when Ralph sampson got into a fight with Jerry sichting, listen to it. He sounded like he wanted to go on the court and punch Sampson
this why jordan was so great, he won all thos rings without ever having a good big man on his team...almost every other champ had that big man to dominate..., and during jordans riegn the nba had the most and best big men
arlichar11 he did have absolute lockdown defenders on his team tho especially during the last 3 peat. Harper, Jordan pippen and rodman could probably stop some teams playing 4v5 lol.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan will always be the goat and there will be no conversation ever so it ended for me a long time ago Jordan will always be number one in my book for ever
Not even close. Those days of strong mental and physical men is dearly missed. Don’t think it will ever be like that again with all this technology that makes life so much easier. Not to mention the monetary value of a business, team or player nowadays make the minds of players lazier.
TDS today game is better - stop lying to yourself. The league was full of brutes back then why were only in the league because toughness. Now players (bar very very few) are in cause of skill
That was a good one Ernie: "They were broken up by Michael Jordan playing baseball." He knows like everyone else knows that if Jordan would have played all 8 years he would have won 8 rings.
I say they would have won 8 chips, but most likely not in a row. We forget that in 93, Jordan and Pippen were tired because they weren't able to rest during the summer before. Unless they were able to get good rest during that summer, they would not have won in 93-94. They would've won in 94-95 and 98-99.
@@paliboy93 .... Think about this, the season was shortened to 50 games in 98-99. Scotty Pippen played all 82 games that season and his numbers were great. Jordan would have gotten the proper rest he needed, along with the others, and they would've killed. The title SA won that year was a fluke. They were almost swept the very next year in the first round by Phoenix.
Whoa! The shade 😎 that Isiah throws at the mailman mailman darkens the room 😳. He calls him a weak link in the playoffs in Piston match ups which prevented Utah from winning rings. And, Kenny Smith seconded the motion of Malone's ineptitude against the Rockets. Ouch! Huge charges against Malone which were backed up by Pippen saying that the Mailman does not deliver on Sunday. 🤔
