Legendary Canadian singer/songwriter, Ian Tyson returns to the Elko stage at the 30th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in his incomparable show, This Is My Prairie. Sponsored by Newmont Mining Corporation.
The first time I heard about Ian Tyson Bobby Bare had sang Four Strong Winds on one of the country music reunions that Ralph Emery had ;and Ralph asked Bobby who wrote that song and he said that song was written by a buddy of mine and Kris's (Kristofferrson) , Ian Tyson.I have sang that song myself many times since then . What a treasure Ian is to country music especially cowboy music. He truly is a Canadian and certainly National Cowboy Treasure. I proudly tip my ol' cowboy hat to you Ian. May you ride in peace forever and a day!
Saw him first in 1968 in Charlotte, NC as part of Ian & Sylvia. Great show. Smart, funny, great music, great side men. Started listening to him again after Cowboyography. I'm not a cowboy music fan but his cowboy songs are are really excellent.
first heard ian and sylvia on underground alternative radio in PDX..think it was KBOO about 1967...they played the renegade..a haunting son...you don't hear it alot. then heard Gordon Lightfoot in concert a couple years later in salem. Ian has sure aged better than GL.
While I "knew" about Ian for a long time - I rediscovered him in 2002 and do not go long without playing some of music - it's just the right thing to do. His performance at Elko this year was astounding!
You are as inspiring to us as Will James, Charlie Russel and Charles Goodnight were to you.. Where you get access to the scenes you paint is out of this world -- but we dearly love each priceless moment we get to share with you
awesome... simply awesome ! just love you so much Ian ~ keep going and keep playing as long as you want ~ we love your original songs , love them all !
