31 hour Ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao - Don't Buy The T Shirt

Leaving Portsmouth at 11pm on Wednesday night, the Ferry to Bilbao stops at Roscof on the North French coast for a crew change before carrying on across the Bay of Biscay to Bilbao. It is a comfortable boat, not as big as some of the Cross Channel or Irish Sea Ferries, but there is enough to do. I met some interesting people too. Brian on his Triumph Rocket (2.5 litre, 3 cylinders, no panniers!) and Alun on a classic Yellow G1100 BMW.
Next stop Salamanca!

Yeah it was OK. I like being on a boat so it was a nice experience.

I didn’t see any. There is a nice bar at the stern, actually 2, one inside one out, where you can sit and look out. I spent a few hours and saw nothing.

I love the Cap Finesterre. Very good in a rough sea. I hate the Galicia though - the older ships were much nicer. The biggest problem is the terrible fumes in the cabins on deck 8. Doesn't happen on deck 7. Everyone was complaining of eyes watering and breathing difficulties. Crew said don't worry we know about it. Not harmful to your health. Yeah right! I am not asthmatic and yet I was wheezing badly. Outbound crossing was fine on deck 7. Fumes are also very bad up on deck. Much worse than the older ships even though this one is supposed to be good for the environment. No cosy corners to lose yourself in like the old ships. No access to the bow area for viewing either. More dog friendly than the Pont Aven - more like the Cap Finnestere. Good sea keeping - handled rough weather no problem.

On a ferry to Bilbao? No. There were a few guys who got absolutely wasted on the trip. How they drove at the other end I don’t know.

I personally met Bryan Ferry on the Newhaven Dieppe ferry in 1993. Honest truth.

Is the Galicia the LPG powered one? I love the long ferry ride down to Spain.
