The things I've heard about commercial vessels give me the impression that the navy is probably the best way to spend significant time at sea, short of being some billionaire in a floating palace.

@@petoperceptum No matter what nation your from, being in the navy definitely can give some good experiences, but there are plenty of downsides as well. Personally I would advise if you want to spend significant time at sea, get into a more highly trained job (such as technical trades or officer roles) and then look into what Industrial offerings are available.

The ships always have discretion on where they stop and what’s safest for everyone. Typically they refund the difference because lots of the $$$ you pay is based on fees the company pays to dock at their port.

Complaining making factions and beating people up. Either she isnt a real "ex" cruise employe or there is a reason this "yaaas girl motion like a drunk skunk" is now an Ex employe.

The insufferable, privileged blue shirt lady is also lying about the workers. Almost all Royal Caribbean employees are internationals from poor backgrounds in India, Eastern Europe or Africa. They work insane shifts. 10-12 hour days, 7 days a week (6 maybe?) for 6-9 months straight. Then they go home. American Labor laws don't apply bc RC is registered somewhere else. They get no health insurance, no proper onboard medical care. Their visas don't permit them to disembark for more than 4 hours (US port at least). Regardless, they are typically all exceptionally grateful because they don't have comparable opportunities at home. GTFOH rambling about paying taxes.

American here. Our health care is also completely privatized and does not get paid by our taxes. I am considered poverty level and I do have health insurance through my job that I pay almost $40 every two weeks out of my pay checks for. It does not cover much though. Yeah, she’s got some weird ideas. Why on earth would South African not have to pay tax? And they still have to use that money to like, live. They aren’t on a ship in South Africa somehow buying South African food with dollars. They have to save and then bring the dollars home. I know people who have worked on cruise ships, they worked for years saving as much as possible and then came back. And the flights alone will wipe out a lot of those savings.

@katherinekennedy2871 I most definitely agree! Sadly at that income level they would be in what's called the "super tax" bracket it's like 33% or something so yeah take that x 16 and make it x10 just on taxes then by my math they would be earning the same as a mid level worker here!

@@kmhkennedy I think she meant that taxes weren't taken off the paycheque directly. I worked for Princess Cruise Lines in 2000 - 2001, and no taxes were taken off my pay, but I still had to declare the income and pay the tax once I got back to Canada.

It's common actually. Many cruise ships have a morgue. Also, many elders spend their retirement and last days on cruise ships. I mean, think about it. It's far cheaper than an elders home.
