I hope this bill passes because we have people working 50 hours a week in factories and they are literally drowning and they are still living with there parents!
@@STOP.Deleting.Truth.Comments Lets see how you feel about it when prices sky rocket because the very boss who pays you, now has to make up the loss somehow. Genius idea.
In the 80s and 90s everyone was talking about working fewer hours because of the substantial gains in productivity thanks to the internet, but the gains were withheld by big businesses offering stagnant wages.
Proposal: Monday: Livable Wage Tuesday: Livable Wage Wednesday: Livable Wage Thursday: Livable Wage Friday: Paid Not To Work Saturday: 2.5X Overtime Sunday: 2.5X Overtime ..... if you show up on Saturday and/or Sunday
How about 32 hours or 40 hours, your choice? If you choose 32 hours, you get paid for 32 hours, not paid for 40 hours. And, overtime still only applies after you work 40 hours. So, you can work 32 hours without getting penalized for it (such as taking away from your vacation time).
It’s good. People create so much wealth for owners they deserve time with family with less hours and higher pay! Some people honestly think they’re worthless and deserve $5/hr. Have some pride.
Ok, let's think for a moment. If the corporation has to pay 8 hours of non production .... won't that cost be passed on to the consumer? And what about hospitals? Automotive repair shops? Construction? Police Firefighters See the problem yet? If a doctor only works 32 hours a week and has to pay their staff for 40 hours.... cost will go up.
Yes indeed,,it is the only solution to ensure rested and happy workers for a productive week.....smiling .....Furthermore,it will endure deflation instead of inflation.....period
So many reports have already been published on how effective 32 hours work weeks are. Productivity is tilted upwards and employees are far more satisfied. Less likely to look for other employment and more willing to do what is needed for their job (minus the exploitation). People need to stop the corporate boot-licking. We are in the 21st century. Technology has provided us some much needed automation and efficiency. It's time the working class got more of what it wants.
Not everyone is going to get a 2nd job some people can take other paths like starting a side-hustle or investing the money they earned on the free time they have instead of working at a job only dealing with toxic rude workers for many hours that do nothing but cause so much stress.
I wouldn't mind 4 ten hour shifts and 3 days off, but most of us are never given that opportunity. I eat lunch literally while working and even if I don't, it's no more than 15 or 20 min, and still an hour is counted against my shift like most of corporate america because there is an unspoken rule that managers expect us to be working 9-5 / 8-4; in several cases my managers have said it clearly. So we're already working 45 hours over 5 days.
It would be great, unfortunately our corporate and rich overlords don't like it. They like to monopolize our time despite the massive rise in productivity (not matched by rise in wages) they have enjoyed over the decades.
These are the same "overlords" that pay your wages, offer 401K matches, health insurance, free coffee, etc. . . that you decided to work for. Or am I missing something? Do you realize how even more expensive EVERYTHING would get when these overlords have to make up the loss somewhere. Nobody thinks ahead of the immediate gain in this ridiculous scenario.
@@sentino68 okay bootlicker. you can slave away all you want. corp overlords will stay like that because they are lobbying to keep pay stagnant while racing to automation and laying off workers.
@@sentino68 other countries have implimented this. The fact is, this can work. Productivity has increased MASSIVELY. The gap between upper class and lower class is only growing. There is no excuse for the current state of this country.
This won't happen. So if you get paid 32hrs a week you will get paid less and if you want to work 40hrs for that time n half.. you think your employer would want to pay you more... I doubt it... employee loss regardless
they will have to because people decades ago used to work 12 hours a day and they successfully reduced it to 8 hours a day. This is not something new, it is just that Americans are hopeless and brainwashed.
How do you think we got to a 40 hour work week? Corporations voluntarily agreed to it. lol. How about child labor? Safety and Health standards? Common!
For those who think those who want 32 hour work week or overall 4 day work week are lazy or not driven, maybe it’s cause WORK CULTURE HASN’T CHANGED IN 90 YEARS.
Hah! Democrats don’t care about the working class. Just look at their disaster at the border. That fiasco will be a disaster for working class Americans
When you work for someone else they are always going to make more money then you. I wish i can finally be self-employed and work for myself on my own time.
Not going to happen, Do you think Companies are going to pay 20% to employees and get %20 less production? You think inflation is high now wait until they add 20-30% to make up the money they are loosing, In California they are cutting thousands of jobs or closing completely because of a 20 minimum wage.
Hospital emergency room manager to Mrs. Bernie Sanders: "We understand that Mr. Sanders needs immediate medical care, and we have an admin clerk doing everything possible, but all the doctors and nurses pharmacists are on 32 hour work weeks and we just don't have sufficient staff to care for all patients, including Mr. Sanders. We'll try to relieve his pain and suffering until the next 32 hour shift arrives...hopefully he'll live that long...
increase staff, problem solved. but wait, you don't want to hire more people because you run the hospital like a business model and patients become the clients.
So still paid for 40 hours. if this doesn't go through how about cutting my taxable wages in Half FICA. Im not happy how your spending my tax dollars anyway.
Time for Businesses to start the Restructuring Process. Chapter 11 and Hiring Part-time Workers only, reintroduction of OJT and 1- 2yr Employment Contracts.
To Mr. Sanders YES. This literally has no downside. If you do the research on it, you'll see that productivity, quality of the product, and corporate profit INCREASES in the study trials done on this subject. Workers are happier and their mental health will get significantly better cause they aren't worked as hard and they have more free time to relax. Management will be happy because they have more money in their pockets from the increase in productivity.. Don't just assume that because its Bernie or because its a left wing proposal its bad, actually do research and inform yourself on the subject. Get out of the echochamber my friend. This is one of those very rare issues where it is extremely black and white, the only reason why it hasn't been implemented is because we haven't given much thought into it, and because many such as yourself are stuck in the status quo bias where y'all think "oh it's been this way for so long, why bother changing it." It was Republican president Richard Nixon who first entered this idea into American public thought. Even though he was a solid conservative (like yourself I presume), he recognized that this not an issue with any gray area. He recognized that this was an inevitability, and so he floated the idea all the way back in the 50's. More work does not always mean more profit, look at Japan. The work culture is TERRIBLE with overworking. The economy has been stagnant since the 90's, birthrate has plummitted because young people are too busy to start a family, mental health care is even more an epidemic here than in the states. Their is litteraly a word for working yourself to death from too many hours: 過労死。 My point is, don't jump to conclusions just cause the big bad Bernie said something, and don't just assume eveything I'm telling you is accurate either, research it yourself and you'll find that it is true.
Lmao 🤣 must be nice just sitting reporting the news, some people already doing 4 tens or 3 12 and got plenty of days off. How about lowering the prices and make everything affordable haha 😂
And thats what this is all about....work a 32 hour week for the first 4 days, then get time and a half for "overtime" on the fifth day! So in reality its costing the employer more to employ you. What a joke!!!!
If this was to pass that would mean if you work at Sam's Club or anywhere working 40 hrs a week at $15.45 & it goes to 32 hrs per week without a pay degrade that would be $19.31 per hour at 32 hrs & yearly $32,136 equivalent to 40hrs at $15.45
i don't think something like this would pass we'll be continued to have to work to an early death or if you find the courage take that early Remington retirement plan.
I'm all for it, i really don't care what it does to a comapnies bottom line. Wages haven't kept up with productivity, they have remained flat for decades. Going down to a 32 hr work week w/o losing wages isn't forcing companies to pay workers for less work. That extra day off should be just the start. Corporations have been exploiting the workforce for far to long. They have no problem paying millions to the people up at the top and give them all kinds of perks that deny to those at the bottom, even though it's those workers who have helped make those businesses a success. Any company or industry that benefited from a large increase in worker productivity to make record profits but failed to use any of those profits to increase wages need to be the first ones implementing a 32 hour work week with no complaints. They aren't the ones being exploited or unfairly robbed, they were the ones doing the exploiting and it's time for them to pay up some way and stop making people work for pennies on the dollar. People be having 3 jobs and still barely making it, that shit ain't right. And like I said i'm talking about all the industries who experienced an explosion of worker productivity that led to record profits but not better wages... they are the ones who need to adopt the 32 hour work week w/o complaining
All this will do is increase a class war between those jobs that must run 24/7 vs the white collar workers.. honestly in my opinion this only leads to more division in our country. We saw this during lockdown I should know I was essentially working all through it while my family/friends binge watched shows on the couch with a check on the way… yeah we are still salty on this and I am not the only one. Believe me!!!!
40h is totally arbitrary. Why not 50? Why not 60? Why not 20? Why did we settle on 40? … judging by most present hunter/gatherer societies, the human condition involved something like 15-20 hours of “work”/chores per week for the first 97% of our time in earth.. nothing “natural” about 40..
@@STOP.Deleting.Truth.Comments companies won’t work people that 5th day. They don’t wanna have to pay all there employees all that overtime that’s time and a half and if someone works biweekly that’s 16 hours of overtime.
Don't see how this works for hourly employees, retail work you may only get 30 hours a week but they may spread it out over 5 day's, that's what my employer does, so it's not as if you're getting an Xtra day off.
I always admired him but now I realize he is just another liberal lunatic. Each person should have to work a full week's work for a full weeks pay. This kind of unfairness is destroying companies.
The suits work half as much as the average American and get paid more than the average person will ever earn in a lifetime and somehow it’s unfair for people to get an extra day off?
Dumb idea. And this coming from a guy who never had a real job. Seems to me businesses would have to hire more people to cover for those who aren't there. More expense translates to those costs passed onto consumers. I don't see this doing any good for hourly employees and might benefit those salaried employees .
I work four 10 hour days/week. Im a tipped employee. I personally think this is stupid. This is probably inspired by lazy mfs complaining on tik tok because my girl is a stay at home mom to our 3 kids and she talks about a 40 hour work week being exhausting as if shes the one going to work. This is opening the doors to AI and robots putting people out of work
@barkter I could give a shit what was introduced to Congress, so no, I dont have to "keep up." I'm a father of 3, and I have to pay for everything. I'm a tipped employee, so even though there won't be a "deduction in wages," my salary is going to drop substantially. You said you dont get the point. Get it now?
@barkter Because I make tips throughout my shift. 8 hours less is a lot of money I'd be missing out on. How does the evidence suggest otherwise? You're being a troll right now dude
@@Proj3ctLife nobody is forcing you to work 8 hours less. Only that you get paid for 40 hours of work in 32 hours. After 32 hours you'd get overtime instead of waiting for 40 hours to get overtime. That is what is being proposed. So let's recap You said it's a dumb idea proposed by lazy tik tok kids which was false You said that it'll mean that jobs get taken over by AI which is going to happen anyway. You said you'd make 8 hours of less money which was false. Are you ignorant on purpose or by accident?
Sanders is your typical Socialist who has no clue about how business, or the economy, actually work. If a business is forced to reduce hours to full-time, 40 hour week, non-salaried (hourly) workers by 20%, AND must increase their hourly rate by 20% so that they receive the same weekly pay, the business will need to bring on additional labor to meet it's budgeted productivity, and they now would have at least a 40% higher cost of labor. And guess who is going to pay that additional cost? The owner or investors who take the risk to even start the business? Nope. It will be passed on to the buyer of the goods or services the company creates. And in the end, everyone who buys things (all of us) will pay AT LEAST 40% more for those things. You think 7% inflation is bad?! Wait until you're staring at 40% inflation !! If Sanders doesn't know this, he has no business being in the same area code as DC, let alone sitting in the Senate. This is the same nonsense that turned Venezuela, which was once South America's most prosperous nation in the early 90's, into a failed state where citizens pillaged their local zoos to kill, cook, and eat the larger animals to avoid starvation.
That’s weird every time they going to pass a good law that is good for employees or middle class everything is just going to increase bad things are going to happen
Let's not frame this around "hard work", that is a slippary slope and just lead to division and chaos. Many people will get upset and start grand standing about what "work" is and how they "work harder" than others. I think it is an open and legit conversation to talk about adjusting the standard that was placed a long time ago and figuring out something that works for everybody. I am somebody that will work more than 4 days, but that is my choice. I think most people can do their jobs in less or more time anyways. Just keep in mind nothing is free. You always get what you pay for. But people are free to choose what they want in life so let's see what happens.
I would gladly work 8-3 with a 30 min lunch or no lunch at all! Working til 5, 5 days a week is exhausting! By the time you get home it’s time to go back sleep and do it all over again the next day 😔
Decrease productivity by 20%? But keep pay the same? That is going to raise the price of the product or service by at least 20% if not more! This idea from someone who never produced a service or product and never worked in the private sector. It is just another way to by votes!
Some companies here in Ireland do 4 days a week but still do 40 hours and you can do overtime on Friday at 1.5 times your normal pay. The 4 days actually increases productivity. 32 hours is ridiculous. It also depends on what the company does in regards to if they can go to 4 days a week. Most likely office jobs.
Is this really Sanders idea or was he just ask to propose it. In politics timing is everything . This is just before an election .Remember student loan forgiveness before mid term elections ..How did that go after ?
People are mentally drained. We have to work 40 hours a week for the man 5 days a week from someone who proposed this over 90 years ago? Its not fair. Time for a change brother.
@@Greyscale24the problem is that you are mentally drained over 40 hours a week. How can this be? I would say your generation, presuming your generation x or z, is that probably no one gave you a vision for making your own path and start building your own business or income . I hate that people think that their only options are working for the man. In the late 1800s to early 1900s, there was a movement by the robber Barron class to crush the entrepreneurial spirit that used to be endemic in Americans. A job was considered a thing for drunks, slackers and recent immigrants. You gotta get a better vision for your future, not one as a worker bee.
Here is what a 32-hour week gets you compared to what we have now: 20% less road work, 20% less police, 20% less military power, 20% less money on your paycheck, 20% less medical insurance, 20% less social security checks (if it is still solvent) and the list goes on and on....
Here is what a 34-hour work week gets you. 20% more free time. 20% more personal spending during your 3 day weekend. 20% more opportunities to vacation. 20% more job opportunities, to fill in for folks who worked their hours. 20% more overtime pay. We went through a similar shift many years ago when going from a 6 day work week to 5 days work week. The US survived just fine.
@@mrnoch6571 your math is not adding up. If you want time off to do whatever then only work 32 hours. To expect 40 hours worth of benefits and pay for only 32 hours of labor is insane.
