A note about heat-resistant resins. You usually can find casting resins that will be heat resistant enough for a cup of coffee. Let's Resin is heat resistant up to 160f if I remember right. JDiction 3x uv resistant resin, I+ believe, is around 200f. My fave brand Naked Fusion Craft Resin is heat resistant up to 204f and is food safe. The Stone Coat, however, is specifically made for setting a hot item from the stove or oven on. It's heat resistant up to 400f, I think. So, you don't have to buy the way more expensive Stone Coat if all you are using it for is something like a coaster. Coffee is typically brewed at 195 to 205f.

There are different types of UV resin too. There is the Hard/high viscosity type which is thick. It's good for doming, for using in the rings, or anywhere that you don't want your resin to be runny or drip. Then there is the soft/low viscosity type which is perfect for using in intricate molds or anywhere you need a thin resin to be able to get into small spaces. The hard can be used anywhere, but the soft can't. JDiction has one called New Formula which is halfway between the thick and thin viscosity. And some UV resin brands don't have different viscosity resins. Those are usually thin viscosity. Some may be medium or halfway between thick and thin.

Hi Michelle, I just wanted to give you a head's up on your measurements. You said that some of the resins are only shallow pours, but then you said 2 - 3 cm (centimeters). That would make it over an inch. I believe you meant mm (millimeters). 3 mm would be close to 1/8". Great video by the way, there's not a lot out there explaining the different resins, so I've learned a lot watching this, thank you! 💖😃

Great information. I use Stonecoat and ArtResin for just about everything but I don’t do the variety of things you do. @glitznglitterbymichelle1

I only use table top resin for cutting boards or flood coating a project, otherwise I don't use it that often. Let's Resin brand is sufficient enough for coffee cups and things like that so I just use that but if it will be hotter than that I use the heat resistant. Sorry! @@MollyHelfgott something I do and have always done and I will explain why. I buy the big jugs (gallons, 1/2 gallons) I don't pour from the jugs. I bought some glass 32oz milk bottles from Amazon and I decant from my jugs into those bottles. The reason why is because of oxygenation, which is what speeds up the shelf life of resin. Every time you open those jugs you are allowing air into them and if your pouring straight from the jug, you are opening and closing it constantly. So that's why I decant into smaller bottles. So just an fyi if you plan to buy the jugs without the pumps.💜

how long does the pump resin last in its own container
@kdscraftcorner
@kdscraftcorner 8 месяцев назад
Epoxy resin has a shelf life of usually 1 year unopened. And then 6 months to a year opened. But each brand has its own shelf life and should tell you what that is in the instructions or on the bottle. The way you store them can affect shelf life too. Again, your instructions should advise you on storage, too. (Usually a cool, dark, climate controlled place (60f-80f).) It can be used beyond its shelf life, typically, but most brands (not all) tend to start yellowing after 1 year or 6 months if opened. If this happens to you, you can put a tiny amount of blue color in it to counteract the yellowing. I would put a drop on something like plastic, or an old coaster. Then just touch my stirring stick to it, mix that tiny amount in my resin, then add a little more as needed until it appears clear again. If you just put it in a full drop at a time you may tint it too blue. But only do that if your resin isn't super old. If it's at the 1 yr mark, then use it as quickly as you can. Other types of resin such as polyester resin (6 month shelf life), and polyurethane resin (usually 3 to 6 months shelf life) have shorter times and actually do expire and likely won't cure beyond it.

AWESOME! THANK YOU!
@resinmeup
@resinmeup 8 месяцев назад
@@kdscraftcorner this is correct to a certain point based on a new purchase. But the shelf life of any resin is all depending on how much you open and close the container. Oxygenation takes place every time you take the lid off and allow air into the bottle. I personally don't pour from my original bottles/jugs for this reason. I decant into smaller 32oz bottles. It assures that the least amount of air is being introduced to my original resin, which is what causes the resin to turn yellow over time.
