You handle inspections like a pro, I am so impressed with your organizational ability on your documents, your attitude, and friendly nature. I need you to train about 330 drivers in my region. VERY NICE JOB!
When you get pulled over for a inspection I found that being friendly doesn't do you a bit of good. The best thi g to do is keep your mouth shut and don't give up any extra information. After 40 years on the road you learn a few tricks. When going by a open scale get in the middle lane and hold it there till a vehicle comes up on side and make believe they won't let you over. There is no law that says you gotta kill someone. Trying to get in the scale.Never once got stopped, and I always raised hell on the CB and made believe I was pissed in case the DOT INSPECTORS were listening as they always do.And remember there is not a scale in America you can't go around if you have too.
You buy the top of the line Atlas you can always find your way around like you said I only drove 18 years starting in '86 but I picked up a tricks of the trade and good tips
That's a BS, you bypass scale you are getting VT. You have enough time to change lanes way before you get to the scale. You are giving a very bad advice to your fellow truckers
@@alexk5442 This is horrible, and bad advice.Attitude is everything , and it may not always get you out of violation, but if you are respectful!;90% of the time they will be too. When you are a A hole to them , only more reason for them to make your life worse.
@@calebniederhofer6529 Exactly being nice may not get out of violation but it can 8 out 10 times get you out of a fine and your walking away with just a warning.
the best DOT inspection i ever got was west bond hope AR. i hit the scales new truck new flat bed empty. he told me to pull over bring in paper work. i went in he said he was going to inspect my truck and he said you have lights on the truck check. hows your breaks. then said you stopped on the scale and in the spot so they work. he looked and said yep you have all your tires check. he ask for my paper work took the info off it and ask to see my log book so i went to hand it to him. and he said yep you have a log book check. handed me a peace of paper and told me to get out of his scale house and said happy new years and this was in july.
My best was NB I25 going into Montana/Wyoming. I ran to the building where they were checking everyone's papers. I felt dizzy. They said it was the Altitude,,over 7000 ft. They told me to sit down and relax ,then was going to send me back out to get E,logs but said" nevermind,,,,just go ahead. Be careful.
@@ald3975 same thing happened to me in Wyoming walking to the TA truck stop. I panicked never felt that before in my life 😂😂 thought I was about to die
Paul Wicklund staying back gives them the idea that your doing your logbook. but since he didn't have a paper logbook. now he was forced to look at more things to try and find something
Truck weigh stations have off/on-ramps, and they are only so long. When the weigh station is open, and trucks need to stop, and it's busy, they will line up on the off-ramp to get weighed. If the ramp is full, and presents an issue of spilling onto the roadway, causing a traffic jam, staff in the weigh station will give trucks the instruction to pass or skip that particular station, either through an in-cab signal or roadside signage. Based on context, state police departments are not too happy about that typically.
Have you ever had to "help" an officer with a full vehicle inspection (i.e. lights, blinkers, etc)? Fifth Amendment to the Constitution protects you from self-incrimination... So helping cops find things wrong with your rig could be a big mistake? Just curious.
I've always kept a gap when I pull into a scale house never been checked other than an officer standing next to ramp checking logs, if I were guessing I would say they ran his DOT number on his truck and if the company he works for has a low score or rating you're more likely to be inspected
DOT seemed like a nice guy, just doing his job. He seemed pretty chill about the camera and had some good manners. It could have been worse, you took it like a champ!
That's one of the many reasons I don't drive anymore. DOT treat drivers like a second class citizen with all the questions. It is like truck drivers have no privacy or rights. That career has really gone downhill with the DOT. He was professional, but all the questions and asking for last load info is a huge sign he was looking for a reason for a citation.
on the freeway I keep space depending on if it's a way in motion scale. pulling into a scale I stay closer to the truck in front of me. if you stay back to far, they may think you doing your logbook.
I heard you saying that if the ramp is full you can bypass... I got pulled over 4 years ago in Minnesota because the ramp was full and I couldn’t get over in time and they turned me around to go back into the scale and then did a level 3 inspection plus gave me a ticket for bypassing the weigh station
Thank you for sharing, I was wondering how those inspections went, saw them allot during my last visit to the States. In Europe they just pull you over and they always find something to give you a fine!!! Keep on Trucking! Greetings from a Truck driver from The Netherlands , EU
That seems terribly intrusive and without cause. I understand it's the law for commercial trucking but I wonder how much safety is enhanced? Is the public benefit worth the cost of the inspection and intrusion?
Safety First you want to make sure that you can back up the truck in case the truck in front of you breaks down and you don't want to seem like you in a rush so Dot do a full inspection on you
Very professional. He was getting a pretty good read on your cognitive ability. I was snowmobiling in Maine. Two of us on separate sleds. The wardens pulled us over and separated us. The same grilling took place. Where did you start from? Where you going? Where you going tomorrow? Where are you gonna spend the night? I should say we were cross country riding, with saddle bags like a motorcycle. We could have been up to no good.
Many years ago, I was heading to the Port of Long Beach with a load of cotton that I knew was overweight (my fleet manager wanted me to take the last of the inventory). It amounted to only three bales, as I remember, but it put my trailer (truck-trailer combination) weight over 500 pounds. I pulled onto a small exit just before the Banning weigh station and waited until the ramp filled; Talley Ho!
They make DOT purposely to have so many rules and items that virtually all trucks on the road no matter how hard they try to conform, will be "guilty" of violations of some sort.
put any receipts you have in a envelope with a stamp on it and seal it up. don't offer too much information to them. he's going at you like your being audit
Best advice ever and same thing I tell new driver's shut your mouth only answer what your asked. Let them do their job and figure out or find on their own. Don't incriminate yourself.
Thank you JBG . For all your drama on d road. I’m currently studying for CDL. Online. I want to know ? What’s the name brand of your camera n where did you buy it from?
Hello John, I live over here in Northern Ireland and I really love your videos, your videos are very honest and sincere and sometimes with sometimes quite funny, keep those videos coming and good luck.
I just discovered your channel and love your content, man! I’m thinking about getting into OTR trucking. I’ve done a little research and I’m leaning more towards prime. Keep up the good work.
I noticed this distance thing when we visited Florida this year. I did wonder if it was for this reason. We visit there a couple of times a year, for the last 5 yrs. Checks over here in the UK make our hearts beat too. Just found your channel, it’s great.
lol illegals commit the crime of being in the U.S. but what your dumbass dosent unserstand is that DOT officers also check for the safety of the drivers by inspection of the vehicle. So how is it that you want to trade DOT inspections for ICE officers??? What a dumbass
I never leave a huge gap. Been at this since 1998.. hauled all kinds of stuff. I give the next truck a few feet to scale off and I'm on. Bore low to cross and always dump all my bags. Turn off all lights prior to entry in day light hours. Barely get pulled in. Green 95 percent of the time
Let them do inspections at Company bases. Make them come to you instead of interfering with logistics. Or take the trucks to a DOT certified inspector and get a sticker on the trucks and trailers. School buses do this. You have Federal DOT laws to obey and then each State, which has different laws. Other than that, let the cops drive the trucks. And don’t help them, give them all the space they want and get a cup of coffee.
I used to see radiator covers on diesels in the winter. Now, I don't know when I last saw one.Are they common up there? Or do modern emissions negate them, now? THANK YOU
I use to pull food grade tank with no baffles and would get the product sloshing real good before pulling on the scales. It would take a while for it to stop sloshing back and forth so they always waved me on which was a good thing most times because I was over weight sometimes. Lol... Especially when I was going to Atlanta Pepsi.
not true my sister dated a bad driver that spent more time trying to figure out how to cheat the system while hauling coil steel rolls without enough bindings, always overweight and driving around dot checkpoints. always wasting money trying to cheat the system, always taking drugs and endangering everyone else on the road including your and my family,s / just follow the rules of the road and no worries
Do you want your family next to some lopsided overweight truck with leaking air or worn-out tires? Without those checks companies will have no problem putting a drivers life at risk.
I had a level 2 the other day, small minor defect, air leak in one of my air tanks under truck. Couldn't hear it. Anyways I've had 3 more inspections since then, all inspections have been in the last 8 days. Am I being flagged from 1 negative inspection?
Reading the comments down bellow... I don't think most realise how those inspection work. They have x numbers of inspectors. If one is free then the next truck is inspected. Leaving space did nothing, an inspector was free. It is NORMAL to get inspected, it's part of the job. And you are actually required to let them inspect the inside of the truck, as this is a requirement for the commercial truck driver licence. Refuse to do it is a DOT inspection refusal, and is a fine or it stay here until the inspection is completed and has passed. Also, you do not want to annoy an inspector. No truck is 100% up to code, there is always something here or there, which can also be something too dirty. Piss off an inspector, and you're in for a joy ride. And of course, if you stay there too long then you can not complete your run of the day: you can only be on the clock for some time, then you need to sleep, even if you would be one minute over.
They have NO rights to root through your truck without probable cause. That's not part of an inspection nor their job. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! Been there, Done that 🤣
@@boobtubeakatv1296 yep they do have the right see your company owns the truck therefore it's not private to you if you own it your still subject to search
hi JBG I Noticed you and some trucks ahead of you pulled into the weigh station but other trucks keep on going and dont stop' how does that work and why do you have to stop ?
They have a bypass system that sends a signal letting them know they dont have to stop if they are setup for it, i think its called prepass. Kinda like ezpass for tolls.
Hello sir and goodbye sir that's all you have to say to these detectives ,every time they open that door they think they just caught a murderer or a child molesters it is sickening .
WTF is with the questions about previous loads and upcoming loads? I really don't understand so feel free to educate me on the line of questioning. Seems very intrusive.
I never leave my doors unlocked just for this reason. I have no desire for them to be in my truck. And I certainly wouldn't have answered so many questions.
He was nice some these other asses could take a lesson from him the majority of women dot are worse than the men I had 1 in pa at the top of 15 when u drop out of NY she yanked me over then proceed to walk up to my truck reach up to driver side door and open it she got pissed when I snatched the door back from her and told her you guys aren't to walk up and open doors I said how would like it if I waked up to ur house and started opening doors
I'm still learning about the trucking Industry. Is a Level 3 good or bad? Can someone explain the different levels and what they mean please? Thank you kindly.
Is it normal for the inspector to need to know where your load from 2 days ago was and where you'll be going and what you'll be doing next? Does he really need to know that you have a receipt for food? Not sure I follow the reasoning for these questions.
In Sweden we don’t have chicken coops or weight stations like in the US or North America. I’ve been holding a drivers license for ten years and five years as a professional minivan driver but I had a wreck a couple of weeks back while on duty a female bus driver cut me off when we turned left in a busy intersection she changed lane to the right lane left indicators on but I was already there so the bus driver clipped the drivers side of the van and I had nowhere to go but into the ditch and slammed into a light pole. I was furious with the woman driving the bus but I had to stay professional and remained calm made some phone calls and then talked to the other driver and then the rest of the day was just a pile of paperwork to explain the damages to the insurance company my boss and the owner of the minivan that had to go and pick up the car.
Technically you would get a ticket for not knowing how to operate your own Qualcomm.. and you need to know whether its a on board recording device or a electronic logging device. Your also supposed to have a plastic placard that you hand to the officer. Never keep bills of lading in your truck or any reciepts. Put them in an envelope and send them home or destroy them. For instance you arrive at destination. They knock on your door 6 hrs later and say pull to a door. You do and they unload you. You go back to bed but tgey wrote the time and date on the bills. You get up do your log give the 15 minutes for paperwork. Now you hust committed fraud. Your time on logs dont match your bills. Theres many many ways you will get screwed by having paperwork in your truck.
why is it that when he had you pull up, you can see that there were no trucks on the off ramp for the scales, and all the trucks were just passing by??
I got inspected on I70eastbound in M.D them young punk officers are the worst the cop pooped my seal with out my knowledge he told me he didn't like the way my air lines for the brake Chambers on the trailer was routed the lines were factory after the inspection he told me I had no citations or violations I got back to my home terminal and handed the report in hear that punk put the air lines in the report my TM gave me crap I've been with this co for 15yrs never any tickets or violations and my company wan'ts to treat me like crap now my runs are now 150mi a night less now since the inspection I drive day cap line haul becouse of this punk now I'm loosing money before I drove I used to p.m trailers this 22yr old cop didn't know what he was talking about so if anyone runs 70 in M.D get past that scale by 5:30am they open at 6:00am they got me at 6:15am
Enjoy your videos and I like the fact that you seem to run a tight program. That said, I have noted that you talk too much when stopped by DOT. Just hand over the papers and get out of there. 🏁
That guy has it out for you, I knew the voice before he came out from another video probably after this one though so this could be the first run in with the guy for all I know, lol. Unfortunately I'm heading to WI for training next week and I'll be running out of the terminal in Marshfield so I'll probably run into this guy ;(!
I would not have given paperwork on a previous load. Thats non of his bussiness. Where your coming from and where your going non of his bussiness. Its all in your logs anyway.
Pre-pass is a transponder that attaches to the windshield. Much like the toll pass (EZ Pass or I Pass etc.). You pay a fee. The chicken coop sends a signal to the transponder. It displays a green or red light. With Pre-Pass you swear you are legal. If you get a red light and then scale out overweight there is a major fine. In the $10,000 range.
