In this video I try to convert a Graham Farish Class 50 to be DCC ready by installing a Next18 decoder socket, and isolating the motor from the pickups.
Once the Next18 decoder socket is installed I can then plug in a blacking plate to run it on DC power, a DCC decoder to run it on DCC, or a DCC sound decoder to run it on DCC with sound as well.

Hi Phillip, What a cliff-hanger! everything was going so well! Loved the idea of using the next18 breakout board, it looks like Lais have redesigned it, which makes a lot more sense than it's first version. There is someone on youtube that use's these on all his locos including the locos with pcb's I suspect so that sound can be added in easily like you are doing, but he only shows the final result so kudos to you! Looking forward to the next episode as I know you'll have sorted it out one way or another! All the best Tony

I have since discovered that Zimo sell a board (STACO2?) with a Next18 and all the wires attached, but also the few components needed to make a keepalive controller, so you can just solder on a few capacitors wherever you can fit them, and then plug in the decoder. Seem like a good solution to me.

@@naivegauge Nice find with the Zimo Stac02 looks very interesting. When I was looking into next 18 sockets I ended up using the D&H next 18 sockets. The stayalive option on the zimo stac02 will certainly be of use to you when using sound decoders.

OMG...This should have been ''Tales From The Unexpected'' Very much enjoying this video and was already thinking you are far braver than me attempting this with N Gauge before we even got to the disaster... I think I will stick to Factory Fitted. Hope you sort it. My video would have had very Many Bleeps on the end of it.. 😷

There were a lot of beep, but I edited them out. you may have seen another video where I fixed everything.

Oh blimey, I do feel so sorry for you, all that work. All was going so well! Ive done very similar. Lets hope you can get the spare part. Try Farish N Spares (formerly BR lines) chances are he’ll have another bogie to slot right in.

Thanks for the sympathy! The damage was not actually to bogie tower, but the bit of plastic that fits into the top of it. FarishNSpares and a few other places did not seem to have one of those spare. Next video is being edited, so I will show how I fixed it.
