34 Packard Gauges, 32 Pierce Arrow Panel In a 32 Ford Roadster Dash!!!

The video at 4:30 reminded me of a story my father-in-law told me years ago. During WWII, he had an old Model T Ford. He and his wife, then girlfriend, were riding in the car. She complained about his driving while they were driving down the road, so he pulled off the steering wheel (while the car was still going down the road) , handed it to her, and said "OK. You drive".

Hot Rod Heathens! Cutting up a cherry 32 dash! Matt shows underside of dash board showing its previous life as a hot rod dash board. Never mind, carry on......😂

A cheap boring head for the mill would let you tweak those holes after holesawing, and avoid the filing and fitting. Dash looks awesome.

In my opinion, all of the cutting that's been done on this project so far still counts as "bolt-on". In the age of the Internet, stock '32 dashes can still be found fairly readily if someone really wanted to reinstall one. Very much appreciate the Pierce Arrow dash and vintage gauge choices. Looks sharp~

Make an engine turned panel & use flat head screws to go under it that hold the gauges. The original 32 panel was engine turned.

love this channel1 when ur talking about gauges as a muscle / antique car restorer! for years! ive done cobra kit cars that had trans . rear diff temp gauges i had to incorporate in with all the typical gauges in a kit car! lol i feel ur pain

Wow what a beauty. The thing to remember and many miss, the only thing you look at while driving your hot rod: the wheel ( so neat here) and the dash, art in motion.

Dash looks great. But, honestly, you are transforming a grandpa car into a kick ass grandpa hot rod. Spoken as a great grandpa. Love your channel. Not so much as for the end product, but because of the process and quality work that goes into making them. In the car world, there is room for all kinds of tastes in cars, but skill in restoration/modification cuts across all lines. I don't have to tell you to keep doing what you are doing. My opinion isn't important. Your skill in design and workmanship and love of what you are doing is what's important. Thanks for sharing.

In the machine shop we use wd-40 or air tool oil for aluminum, works way better than cutting oil ( made for steel )

An engine turned insert might be nice. I really like the gauges.

Ruined or not? Dark oak/walnut, or black finish around the gages? Picking up on the wood grain, shifter knob, steering, seats, darker color accents. Need part 2.

a tre-pan tool is adjustable for diameter and one tool could have done all the holes to an exact size. im an old machinist and have one in my box....

Hey Matt: that roadster is looking good. Next time you drill aluminum try using alcohol as a lubricant. I was a union carpenter, and we always used alcohol when drilling or routing aluminum.

Matt use WD 40 when cutting drilling aluminum it works well

Instead of body color or machine turned, you could do a nice gloss burlwood insert- it would have been period-correct for a pre-war luxury car and would tie everything together nicely. something you wouldn't have to machine or weld for a change.

My hot rod years were from about 1958 just before the Vietnam war started when I got drafted we would’ve never spent this much time on a dash gauges. We will go to the restaurant so cops ride with her girlfriend, but never spent all day on and we did go to And compete this would’ve never been a project from young hot rotors old hot rotors. Yes they had time but didn’t drive the car. It showed it at the car show I watch channel faith it’s your car your way your personality.

I do not quite get the purist's attitude on modifications that people were doing long before they came along. Grant you I would not do these types of modifications on the high-end vehicles, but someone has already beat you to it as far as this vehicle is concerned.
