In this video I describe a problem I had at a job yesterday because it ties in nicely with what we've been talking about. I show how I traced a short circuit on some strobes, And how I knew when I had found the problem despite nothing because visibly wrong at the devices I was at.

What would it mean if one device you find voltage and let’s say 4.3k and then another device near by with zero volts but 4.3k ohms? Does that mean a possible short rests between the two?

That wouldn't really make sense unless you didn't put the first device back together before you moved on.

installation, installation, installation.. like real estate

So at both devices you check voltage and resistance... On the one device you got 24v with OL, and the other you got 10k, 0 volts. Is that correct?

Bingo. But because those devices were back to back, with essentially one circuit coming down into the boxes (voltage) and the other leaving (EOL), I knew I was at my problem.

Joe Klochan would you mind doing another video on troubleshooting circuits? Maybe an example of troubleshooting devices not reporting back to the panel.

I have the same problem except I took the H/S down and metered the wires and got 24v and 10k so I wire nutted the wires completed the circuit went back to the simplex 4100es and still had a short ( no addressable by the way)

@@Gibsonlp73 you probably have a strobe wired backwards.

s = strobe v = Visual s = speaker v = voice see what I did here?

This is assuming no tee taps. I've seen systems where every device is directly wired to at least four other devices I called it spider web tee tap, amoung other less professional terms.

This is specifically a strobe circuit. If you have T-taps on a strobe circuit, it isn't correct and needs to be re-pulled.
