Bound to happen. I'm happy you didn't get injured or stuck. It's like a Isle of Man TT racer said once: "the more seat time you get, the greater the chances of dying on it are". Sidenote: i put it in another comment, but i'm unsure if RU-vid comment notifications even work anymore, i never get them so here's my suggestion again: once the mine's cleanup is complete, and you're confident that you can start the conversion to museum, maybe rent a LiDAR unit to map out the mine in 3D. This isn't a map that needs high precision or amazing detail, so you'll do just fine with a small, low to mid level capacity unit that's cheaper to rent too as a result. From experience, if you decide this is a good idea, speak with the outfit that rents the unit and ask them what method of mounting it has, and my advice is to go around the mine and preset places where you can fix a jig that will hold this device static whilst it's doing its job. That way, the time spent setting it up won't carry to rent costs in time. You just go around the mine, plop it where it needs to be and start it, then switch to the next location. For inexperienced users, these kinds of costs in renting are those that bite the most, if you streamline the process, you'll pay less. IMO, mapping the mine that way is a fast, simple and useful tool. The level of precision provided in this map will also serve you when you'll want to make "furniture" and you'll work less too, because you'll be able to plan the whole setup without having to move heavy items here and there all that much. Jm2c.

Idea suggestion - since you won't be mining gold, consider marketing some really good samples of the quartz to your subscribers. @@exploringabandonedmines Once the mine's cleaned out, maybe rent a LiDAR? You're not trying to find lost ancient cities in a jungle, so a small, backpack sized unit should be pretty cheap to rent and operate inside the mine. My personal advice, if you do decide to do it, speak with the renting outfit to find out what the unit needs to be used, IE tripod, placement etc. And through the mine, install some brackets where you'll just place the unit once obtained to streamline the process and make the costs smaller. For new people, renting equipment money is lost in the time spent learning and setting up the machine, so getting informed and setup in advance is a neat bypass of that. jm2c
@mine_addict
@mine_addict Год назад
Hey frank nice episode. Unfortunatly the more waste rock you take out the more collapse there will be. The muck is holding those old stoppe since god knows when. There is a mine law in quebec that mines have to fill up the stoppe after they mined it out so it holds the back and the bench so you can’t have big collapse in the under level due to a stoppe failing above. I work at 1.3 km underground and the terrain constraint are intense
@exploringabandonedmines
@exploringabandonedmines Год назад
The collapse is just the muck coming down. The hanging and footwalls are stable
@aserta
@aserta Год назад
Yeah, but there's a limit to how much there is up there and he's going to pull most of it out. It's certainly much better than when you're actually mining it. Now he's just moving the stuff through the way it was sealed in. Kinda like those old multiple ball pinball games where you'd get balls stuck on a ledge and to clear them you'd carefully aim for the moving part of the ledge. One would always get stuck there in the mechanism, but it would release all the rest and you'd score big points.
@bryankahtava3174

you should start using some sort of concussion to shake anything loose maybe just get some safety fuse, which you should be able to get without license locally, and then pick up one of those mini oxi-acetylene setups from the hardware store that's basically two small propane tanks. grab a plastic bag, light the torch and get it the mix right, snuff it out and stick it in the bag. seal the bag, tape the fuse to it, and get a safe distance and light it. WEAR EAR PRO. it's just a straight concussion big enough to shake anything on the edge down. and you can scale it from ziploc bag to contractor bags. guys blow windows out of shops doing it fairly often all over the world. it's a well known "party trick"

The fact that you got trapped, does that deter you at all? In the sense of you were given a glimpse of what your reality could be another time. I guess my question is, like soldiers or astronauts or police, etc. Are you comfortable with and accept that the very thing you love to do could one day become your demise? I can understand an instant death in war, or dying quickly as an astronaut or cop, but how do you feel about the risks of getting completely trapped, lights slowly run out of juice and dim, pitch black and cold eventually set in, food and water gone, maybe your pinned down and immobile and rats are biting at you while stuck, then your lights are completely gone. You can no longer really tell day from night and you figure you will just starve to death or die from the elements. -- Much respect to you sir!

I'm sure Sharon would let him out eventually. Edited to add: After she extracted some promises from him!😅

It is just one of those things. I will try and be a little more careful!

@@exploringabandonedmines I wish all the best to you and your wife! A lot of us, including myself, never fully live - yet we begin to die wishing all along we had lived with no fear. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many. That said, yes, please 🙏 do all you can to continue to stay safe and careful.
